They deserve to go out anyway, europe brings in extra revenue and he's put weak teams out in this tournament. Southampton put strong team out and they're 4-0 up on agg.

Is the revenue really that great compared to finishing higher in the Premier League?

Why would West Ham play a second string when this is the only chance they'll get to play European football for about 30 years?

Its not, but why would you not want to do well on a European scale? Its not impossible to do well in the league and in Europe.

Not impossible but clearly very hard.

Maybe the board don't want West Ham to start their first season in the Olympic Stadium in the Championship, and are fearful they can't compete in both the Premier League and Europa League without relegation being a real risk. Not that it seems to matter now.

In other news, Southampton comfortably through.

Given Hull threw the Europa League and then got relegated, its hardly a good omen.

Really makes me wonder why UEFA bothers giving us EL places given how much our times clearly don't wanna be in it.

Result as expected basically a youth team out there with a couple of backups( a shot to bits Nolan, a dreadful Maiga) , I'm gutted but obviously Slaven doesn't care for the Europa.

On the West Ham situation, they should have been knocked out in the previous round.

SLAVEN OUT!

Only for English teams that can't be bothered to put in a proper effort.

SLAVEN IN! On this evidence anyway.

They should have gone all out to keep Big Sam in that case!

And not sure why West Ham rested players tonight for a match they'll lose anyway on Sunday. Could have been a good last season at Upton Park if they'd have given it a go, with some big European nights if they got past the group stage. May as well finish 15th and have a good run in Europe instead of 10th with no Europe.

Surely purely from a fans point of view they would have wanted to be in Europe. Really surprised at just how weak a team he had out.

Wonder if the West Ham fans will be on Bilic's back for this as much as they were Big Sams when he fielded a weak team in the FA Cup

We needed 7 seeded sides to fail to get seeded, six of them did. Just hope we don't get Dortmund or something.

Southampton got a decent draw. Denmark isn't too far to travel.

Should be a good game. Will Koeman put out a strong team again though?

Well he wouldn't be putting out a strong team in the qualifiers if he didn't want to go far in the competition, so i'd imagine he will field a pretty strong team for the playoff round too.

Looking at the fixture list he has Watford away followed by Norwich at home either side of the European ties, so could easily put fairly strong line ups against the Danish.

Southampton won't be struggling with relegation in the league. So perhaps Koeman is thinking they could try win the Europa League and thus get Champions League football. Probably the only way as they're probably still well behind the big 4/6.

Which is exactly why West Ham should've played a strong team.

Watching the Southampton game and was fully expecting them to come out flying and try to win the tie in the first leg, but its been the opposite so far and Midtjylland have had the better chances.

Good result that. How's MGP doing? Saw he was an unused sub tonight.

Southampton could quite conceivably go out next week. Wouldn't be great having them and West Ham already out before the group stage!
