Founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, Manchester United have subsequently become one of the successful clubs in the world.
The Red Devils have been crowned champions of England 20 times, putting them one ahead of Liverpool in the all-time standings.
However, Man United have found success a little harder to come by since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Biggest Rivals
While Manchester City are United’s local rivals, their fiercest rivalry is with Liverpool. There is no love lost between the two cities, both culturally and from a sporting perspective.
Related Clubs
Manchester United have established official partnerships with several clubs worldwide including Royal Antwerp in Belgium and Twente Enschede in the Netherlands.
Short-Term Goals
Having finished third in the Premier League in 2022/23, United will hope to force their way into title contention in the first season on FM24.
Progressing to the Champions League knockout stage and winning at least one of the domestic cups are other realistic short-term goals for 2023/24.
Long-Term Challenge
United were widely regarded as one of the top clubs in the world under Ferguson. Restoring them to their former glories is the primary long-term aim.
Developing local and international prospects in the club’s academy will play a crucial role in ensuring the club can live up those lofty aspirations.
Current Squad
Although United have a strong squad on paper, there are several areas which need addressing if the club is to regularly challenge for major silverware.
The defence is a major area of concern and will need upgrading significantly during the first two or three transfer windows on FM24.
A top-quality midfielder who can control the tempo of games is also a priority along with a versatile forward who can compete with Rasmus Hojlund.
United have plenty of deadwood in their squad who will need moving on, but it may take more than one transfer window to complete the task.
Possible Transfer Targets
Jean-Clair Todibo (Nice – CB) – The France international will likely cost around £45 million in FM24 and would be a useful long-term replacement for Varane.
Ferdi Kadıoglu (Fenerbahce - DR, DL, WBR, WBL) – Kadioglu’s versatility makes him an intriguing proposition on FM24.
Adam Wharton (Blackburn Rovers - DM, MC) - Wharton would be the ideal option for central midfield. He bears plenty of similarities to former United star Michael Carrick.
Karim Konate (RB Salzburg – ST) – Salzburg have developed several promising strikers in recent years
and Konate is the latest one off the production line. He could be a useful acquisition for United.
