It's a strange one.

The only unquestionable fact is that Cisse is offside, which seems to have been his party piece this season. I suppose once upon a time that would be the be all and end all, but it doesn't hit him and if anything, Evans is tugging on his arm as well as getting the final touch. It'd odd as he is both active in that he is being marked by Evans and not active because he doesn't touch the ball.

I have seen an extended tape of the build up to the 3rd Man U goal, where RVP smacks Coloccini in the throat moments before the ball reaches the penalty area. RVP doing such a thing is not that surprising given he got away with a similar elbow on Yohan Cabaye during the reverse fixture.

Although he did bring Sunderland from the bottom of the Championship to the Premier League in his first season. He's not the worst choice and if he's given choice he might do well. Absolutely baffling that they got rid of O'Driscoll though, I think that's bang out of order.

Aye he did and that was an achievement and a half but at Ipswich he seemed completely out of his depth. But I dunno - maybe the fact he was a Forest man before he joined MUFC could work in his favour.

Aye the Forest one is quite baffling. They may have been underperforming slightly given their status as promotion favourites but they're one point off the play offs. Seems incredibly harsh, not least if they want Roy Keane given his time as Ipswich gaffer.

The Berg one is only surprising given the length of time, as under him Blackburn seem to have been falling off a cliff. But surely you'd give someone more faith than booting them out after just 57 days.

Given I've been out I'm still somewhat behind on results but I'm aware of our rather deflating result. Ahead three times, and end up losing both the result and a player to a thuggish tackle the referee seemed uninterested in dealing with.

I'm not too sure about the 2nd Newcastle goal because Cisse couldn't be more offside but it doesn't actually touch him at all. Fergie's reaction was pretty over the top, mind... I really need to watch MOTD to fill in some of the blanks though.

I agree with Fergie - footballs are lethal at close range, and we should look into banning footballs from football.

Is this the same Villa side that got a good win at Liverpool last week?

Fucking hell.

He's deflecting attention away from his team, and people will praise him for shielding his players.

There's being protective and there's being ridiculous.

Ferguson surely deserves an overreaction of the year award. Yes a football in the back of the head is painful - not as painful as one in the nuts but still pretty bad - but lethal? Gimme a break

Also, Newcastle fans booing the Ameobi/Cisse substitution and then going on to win was perfect after Shola saying booing negatively affects performances last week. He took his goal very well.

This is guessing from Tweets I saw from Newcastle fans at the match but by the looks of it the boos were for hooking Cisse rather than Shola's arrival, with the common view being that Demba Ba should have been hooked.

I'm not sure how accurate this is but there does seem to be a growing number of fans that think Ba is harming our chances as much as helping them.

Gibson's was the nearest of the incidents (this includes the Anichebe one Allardyce mentioned in his post-match interview) to being a card, nevermind a red one. The Osman goal in the first half was also ridiculous.

It's not really been a good football day tbh - games called off and the ones that are ahead are devoid of goals.

MOTD is going to be painful viewing.

Especially if you're lingering in and around the bottom three.

Indeed. As well as tomorrow's outing, the games against Reading and Aston Villa that we have in January are crucial to avoiding the trap door.

Depends on January - if we sign a few players and keep the remaining squad members then we'll have the scope to take it more seriously then we have been, but no signings or the expected 3 in 2 out means we probably will keep up our excuse for using this competition as gametime for youngsters and reserve players.

Sparta Prague beat Athletic Bilbao into third place in their group so Chelsea won't have an easy affair either, even if they probably should progress.

The first leg is important - we ideally need to take a 2/3 goal lead to Ukraine for the second leg. Not that the prospect of moneybags Anzhi in the Round of 16 is any better.

I'm in Australia anyway as the white text says, I'm lucky to get the World Cup final out here ffs.

Ah fair enough. It seems pretty random here, mind.

Chelsea have Sparta Prague, and Spurs will play Lyon.

I think we have the easiest of all the English team's draws, which naturally means we'll be the first out.

It's on Eurosport over here, of all places.

A chocolate fireguard would provide Krul with better defensive cover ffs

Attacking wise we're not doing too badly and we could've got a goal or two but at the same time there's a bit of a worry every time they come forward. Could still nick something, possibly...

Trust that to happen though. We need new defenders...

Yeah the most common stat out there is that we haven't scored from a corner in 14 months, and I daresay our conversion rate for free-kicks (discounting the ones that go directly into the net) is just as bad.
