I saw Tweets by Johnnie Jackson saying the fans who followed them up will be refunded by the players. Probably the least they deserve tbf - they looked and sounded dreadful.

I'd rather we had a go for Crouch than fucking Bendtner. But apparently there's no truth to the rumour of him coming to us.

In fairness he has a name like one I guess.

Elsewhere, Shelvey has been spotted in Newcastle having a medical and a £12m bid has been reportedly accepted. There's also meanwhile a rumour that Tiote is off to China for £8m, which in fairness is not too bad a deal given how much he's fallen off the bandwagon since 2012.

I reckon Matty Phillips could do a job down the right for NUFC...if you could keep him fit.

Aye I'd much rather we got him than Andros Townsend, who we'd also been linked with, although talk of that one has mercifully died down of late.

I have seen some talk we want Saido Berahino, but I'm not so sure about that call either given the frankly stupid way he's got himself out of West Brom.

Shelvey's performance at Oxford was less a commanding CM performance, more an advert for why he should stay in their reserve team forever. I still believe we need wide rather than central mids, as we're wasting two CM's in wide positions (GW has been infield in the last two, but still).

Most are claiming Henri Saivet is in England for a medical and talks. Most NUFC fans on Twitter have either written him off as a dud already or slagged off people for writing him off as a dud already. Which sounds about right. Tbh I know shit all other than that he was good on FM07.

Doing nothing will get us relegated.

Saying that, doing more of what Graham Carr wants will get us relegated faster.

Is it really worth getting animated about? We all know we're not going to sign anyone, or at least if we do, nowhere near the 3/4 players we need, and most likely of shite quality. So who cares.

Don't think you can really count the second of them at Spurs given Mitrovic and Perez scored the goals, and in that game, Cisse was awful. Hence my point - yes, he's our best (or increasingly, only) scorer, but he can also be a liability when he's not really in the mood. New blood is going to have to be found.

Whether or not there is desire or funding to get it is another issue, and that's not least if Ashley is willing to provide it given SportsDirect is taking a pummeling on the stock market.

We don't seem to win either way, given Cisse puts in as many shit performances as scoring ones, Mitrovic/Perez have given up on scoring goals, spending the whole 2014/15 season injured finished de Jong, and Riviere is the invisible man.

The McClaren Out bandwagon also appears to be rolling back out... although tbf, given the pre-season expectation was top 8 and a half-decent cup run, and all 3 are now pipe-dreams, its not an entirely unforeseeable reaction to this increasingly hideous pile of crap.

We really do not know how to score. Its getting increasingly tedious hearing that Mitrovic misses an open goal every week, or that Perez, Wijnaldum, Sissoko and all the rest have also seemingly forgotten what scoring a goal is.

Its getting to the point where a failure to get a capable striker in this window will be an act of negligence.

There's a difference between overshadowed and directly assisting. Which is not helpful.

Is it worth taking the Cup seriously?

Its a weird one - we need to show we can be arsed in the cups after the last few hideous years in the FA Cup in particular, and a cup run can boost morale, but it also adds games at a time we need to focus on league wins.

So... pfft. Ehdunno.

I only saw highlights but I do agree we looked substantially more comfortable yesterday than we did in other games. But in a microcosm, the sort of thing that bothers me is that in the previous game, we let West Brom dominate us in a way Arsenal might've been expected too.

We need at least 20 points to stay up (37 could be enough, such is the poor quality of the league atm), and 23 to reach that magic total of forty. I'm not 100% convinced this group of coaches and players as is will get it, but we'll see - hopefully they take inspiration from yesterday and apply it to as many of the remaining 18 games as possible.

Tony Gale is a wank commentator. Surprised this is news to anyone.

Missed the game (seem to be sinning on that front) but bit of a crying shame, this latest one - on another day we would have won, and we perhaps should've. Maybe last season when Arsenal had less secure GK's we could well have taken the points... we desperately need to get rewards ASAP though. Maybe the still-unconvincing MUFC could work.

So with the exception of a keeper, we need perhaps one of everything.

Sounds about right, albeit more on a numbers basis as much as anything.

As far as I recall, the early formation was 4-2-3-1, with Wijnaldum playing behind Cisse/Mitrovic, with the current 4-4-2 with Sissoko and Wijnaldum out wide adopted from the Chelsea game onward. From what I can see, GW has only once been deep starting in the 2 in competitive games, and that was during the home disaster against Watford, although the nufc.com report listed him as one of the few to put in an effort during that game.

Meanwhile, McClaren told the media they want a striker. Personally I think a winger (or perhaps two) is the bigger problem, although given Mitrovic is out of form, Cisse is injured/barely performing and Riviere is injured/shit, an extra option couldn't hurt. Not sure Henri Saivet is that option though... maybe if this was a game of FM07.

I maintain 2013/14 was ultimately a disappointment, as opposed to now which is rage-inducingly bad. We were in the top 6 at Christmas and in close proximity even when Cabaye left, and then threw the season away to the point where we lost 19 league games. It may well have been above expectations in December, but in 2011/12 we pushed on, whereas with this, we threw it away with a failure to reinvest, some bizarre tactical choices, and the visible sign of players ending their interest.

That 19 total is the same also registered in 2012/13, and 2014/15. To manage it once is bad enough, but we lost 50% of our league games in the last three seasons, and that is not something we should accept. The first two and a half of those are on Pardew's watch, so it is a fallacy to say he is not immune from criticism for this period. But its equally not to say he is the sole issue, and clearly this group of players is in a rut, given we've now added another 10 to that total. There also appear to be doubts that this a coaching staff that can get whatever number of points that would keep us up, not least the damaged goods tag that McClaren and Simpson legitimately have over them from the Derby implosions.

We know Wijnaldum cuts inside - that's why there's barely any width on the left flank, hence the recent calls for Thauvin, given he actually added some width on the left flank during the Villa game. Or rather his cameo, given McClaren refuses to play him for more than 5-10 at a time if he can help it. In essence, the main policy is playing a player out of position who is roaming but drifts in and out, which wastes our main threat, and leaves the barely PL-standard Dummett to do most of the wide work. This ridiculous idea doesn't work. To a lesser extent, its the same on the opposite flank, only Sissoko seems more willing go wide, and the barely capable Janmaat is behind.

Least GW is willing to put himself about a bit. Cisse on wide right was an idea only pursued because Ba was a little bitch about being on the left, and it remained insane when Cisse was then moved to wide left near the end of that campaign.

The calendar year reference is something easy to make this time of year, what with it ending and whatnot, and usually its a fallacy, but both the 3 calendar years (2013, 2014 and this one) and the last 3 seasons have largely not been enjoyable (the first half of 2013/14 is the closest to an exception), and this one is doing its best to be even worse. 2 of those were with Pardew, hence his resurgence, but there are fundamental issues at play everywhere with this enterprise, which is imploding more and more by the week.

Either investment is made in January or its relegation. Going further, the club structure and ideology needs reform as its clearly fucked.

The consensus from Cardiff fans is that Sammy Ameobi is shite, which is hardly glowing. Regardless, we have no width as neither Sissoko nor Wijnaldum are any good playing out wide - GW even less - and its even more unhelpful to play both Anita and Colback, who essentially play the same role and have similar limitations.
