I thought that was the point of buying Mbemba, who had looked the better of the two until Coloccini began to look arsed in the wake of the pulping by Palace.

Then again Yanga-Mbiwa was signed to replace Coloccini, and wound up being superceded by the same player, so who knows.

I'd rather we have a first choice given Haidara and Dummett aren't that great, but whatever.

Tbf Wales and Northern Ireland are both oversubscribed. Wales only got 16,000 tickets for the 3 games ffs. Why all so small?

You think Newcastle are bad in transfer markets. Try being a Sheffield United fan for one window ffs. We clearly need a Center back or two, and a striker, Adkins says he's put "7" 6 figure bids on the table for numerous players, which isn't bad for a League One side, but they've all been rejected so he's going to make do with what we have.

Tbf we've done that before. Still sounds shit though, particularly as Peterborough losing Washington does open the door for SUFC a little bit.
Can't put out a back four at the weekend but were well stocked in defence so don't need to buy any.

Hmm.

Apparently if Colback is injured or kept in CM, Lascelles at left-back is the option mooted, which given his previous efforts there is asking for trouble. Its either that or throwing the now-fit again Steven Taylor back in at the deep end.

I don't know how much meaning that "fifth highest spenders since 2010" comment has given £50+million of that comes out of the net spend in the summer 2015 window. I'd say no permanent buys in 2013/14 knocked us out of sync a little bit, even with the top 10 finish, and the consequent slapdash buying around Europe to compensate in summer 2014 and activity-free January (in an incoming sense at least) was also unhelpful.

We still need more - even moreso if Gouffran, Marveaux and some of the other deadwood are removed as desired. Its been a step in the right direction, but we still need the players who can get us secured in the Premier League, and hopefully in a position where we can not endure apocalyptically terrible form at the start of next season. Again.

£14m for Townsend is a fucking rip-off anyway. I think Matt Phillips at QPR or maybe even Nathan Redmond would be better value for money, although the latter probably wouldn't move due to Norwich probably being more sane than Swansea.

Who's the Senegalese forward?

Kevin Nolan has been confirmed as player-manager of Leyton Orient. Interesting and bold move.

There's also been about 23 different variants on the joke "In his first act, he'll sign Sam Allardyce", so its now stopped being even vaguely funny.

Pre-production on the next Bond film will begin in spring, so would've thought casting announcement some point later this year with full release in 2017/18. According to a fansite, Craig is signed up to do one more, and he had a 2 film contract at the time when they began shooting Spectre, even though he's said he may not do another one.

The Revenant

It was a good film-making exercise and diCaprio's performance was impressively conveyed given the minimal dialogue. Felt it could've used some stronger work for the villain, and also for Tom Hardy to not bring the unintelligible Bane voice again.

In terms of Spectre, I got enough of it in the cinema to be entertained, but I did feel Blofeld/Waltz was used too little. I felt it had some decent ideas about the layers and layers of technology and how much it actually helps intelligence, and I think Andrew Scott is a good actor so was pleased to see him getting a decent amount of screen-time, but its execution and tying in the role for Waltz wasn't as good as it perhaps should have been, plus as a primary villain, he was underused, hence his motivations were a little rushed. If its true they're bringing Waltz back in the next Bond film, it might be explained better.

Sky reporting Townsend on a loan with permanent option. Might be more palatable than straight permanent tbf.

Sky also talking of NUFC interest in Berahino. Not sure given he seems to be a man who frequently kicks up a fuss, given he's already had episodes of petulance at WBA. Then again I felt that about Shelvey after the way he left Swansea - motivated by that Morgan/Monk/Dyer triangle in the BPL thread or not - so maybe I'm not one to judge.

Rumours still persist of Newcastle wanting Andros Townsend. I think Matty Phillips might be a better purchase, but I guess we're mad enough to try it.

Also talk in the Italian press that Napoli are interested in Moussa Sissoko. Hmmm... presumably if they sent scouts they'd know he has as many games of doing nothing as he has of being the best player on the pitch, and no real middle ground.

That page is basically the same as the one about Pardew at NUFC in 2014.

Still... unusual debacle that.
Anyone heard the rumours about Nathan Dyer and Swansea's majority shareholder. Such a well run club if true.

No fucking wonder they don't look arsed.

To be fair, it could happen anywhere. But even so, that's pretty fucking absurd.

I think they're screwed in all honesty.

Rumours about that they've signed him as a replacement for Shane Long who is off to Anfield.

I saw that rumour. Be very surprised.
tbf if Tiote asked to leave I'd get rid as I'd worry he'd just 'get injured' and fuck off for a while. If not selling a good player in the middle of a season when you're in a relegation battle is silly.

I don't think Newcastle were interested. Bizarre, I think he'd improve every club in the League aside from Arsenal/Man City. £4m is nothing.

I think the logic is we saw the talk of £20m for him in 2012 but didn't cash-in, and he's depreciated since. £8m for a 29-year-old who gets habitually yellow carded and can be inconsistent is not a bad deal. Its not £20m good, but its decent enough. Its odd that his best form has been of late when talk of a move is up.

Also talk of Gouffran pissing off, with Lille wanting him and talk of a £900k move. Still not sure about the merits of Townsend to NUFC, as many are still rumouring, mind. Maybe if he kicks on like JJ Shelvey did today, then it might work.

The only concrete bids in the summer, or at least reported, came from Leicester and someone else who I can't remember (could it have been Bournemouth?). I know there was a habitual series of articles by all sort of people that we wanted to bring Austin to Newcastle but maybe it was just a 2+2 by media figures given how much we struggled to score when in reality it may have been the scenario we were just not really interested. For £4m he'd definitely have been worth a punt. But I guess the talk he didn't wanna relocate from the south (not to mention his folks live down the road from Southampton) didn't help.

The Channel 5 football shows appears to have changed its format - 1 hour Championship with analysis, 30 minutes of the goal packages for the rest only.

Seems to work better than the amateur shite it had been.
I doubt the Premier League will have a financial crash.

Definitely feel as if the lower league sides will be drastically hit within the next 5-10 years.

I think if it was gonna happen, the likeliest point was during the 2007-09 financial crash or in the wake of the Setanta Sports bankruptcy at the end of the 08-09 season. There was a minimal rise in TV money when it was re-negotiated over that period and I guess there may've been some in media who thought it wasn't gonna go anywhere when the re-negotiations were taking place ahead of the current deal, until BT turned up and Sky duly panic-threw a load of cash at it. We're a long way now from 2004, when the TV money agreed with Sky went down.

It does feel though as though the Championship is becoming a division full of teams willing to gamble high volume cash in search of the Premier League dream. Middlesbrough and Derby throwing cash at their promotion bids is one thing, while the fact 4 teams who have spent big in recent seasons now have transfer bans is another. Even with FFP being loosened for 2nd tier clubs, one can't help but wonder if there's going to be a lot of cubs biting off more than they can chew in the second tier in the next few seasons.

Sinclair isn't worthy of being mentioned surely? The guys a waste of space. Ayew in my opinion is best suited to AMC where he can run the game, he's wasted out wide.

He was their top scorer for a period of this season and has been used up top. Not sure why on either of those.

Yeah, pplus people don't really get the concept of 'minimum of'.

Newcastle actually played class today. Wijnaldum was actually playing like the player people say he is. Shelvey was incredible for the first half. His highlights package on MOTD will be incredible

Haven't for years - Mark Hughes is probably still moaning about Owen's beyond-added time goal in the Manchester Derby in 2009.
Do Villa actually have a striker who isn't a 6ft 5 lump?

Agbonlahor, but then he hasn't played since Garde turned up.

Are we saying Ayew and Sinclair are more wingers?

I can tell you Dyer was not too loved around Ipswich! Living here you hear a few stories about what an absolute cock he was around the town.

Yeah I recall he had a bit of an attitude problem, but then 20-something young footballers with money have a reputation. Norfolk seemed to be similar for Titus Bramble - I was there a few years back and the front page of the local paper was that he'd crashed into a wall in some village up there while coming home from NUFC training.

Well... seeing as he's apparently a boyhood Saints fan and cba with moving from the South, guess it was to be expected NUFC wouldn't land this one. Ho hum.

Kieron Dyer fucking injured himself when one of them training poles poked him in the eye iirc. Also Kieron Dyer doesn't seem to get enough credit, I think he's up there with HBA in players who were really exciting to watch on their day.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. Don't think there was any part of his anatomy he didn't hurt while in black and white, and that's before all the car crashes.

I've always thought NUFC-era Robert to be quite underrated - maybe the consistency issues (like HBA) and his falling out with that wanker Souness didn't help, but on his day, he was excellent.

Since the end of the 5th place season, he's not been consistent in any way. He's had episodes of playing something like his form in his first two seasons, including of late, but its mostly been unimpressive.

£8m for a 29-year-old who has been far too inconsistent works out I guess.

Yeah from the outside its looked a fucked up mess in the entire campaign. It never really seemed clear what Duchatelet's motivation was and most of the acquisitions - players, coaching staff - have been rejects from the Belgian leagues, its also not clear how this strategy works, if ever. Fraeye looked out of his depth from the moment he arrived, given his only major experience was the Belgian 3rd division. And yeah, the chief exec describing fans as "customers" and saying only 2% were dissatisfied with the club's running was fucking nuts.

Bolton and Charlton look doomed. Even moreso in the case of the former if they go into administration on Monday.

The original Star Wars trilogy.

23 years old and I had not seen it until now. There's a few who probably think its pretty insane to manage that. Anyway, of the three, Empire Strikes Back was the best one. New Hope and Return of the Jedi had their moments too.
