Getting regular European football is unlikely unless we get bought by a trillionaire or unless we change our investment plan. My simple wish is to be excited about being a Newcastle United FC supporter, and when we've only won 4 competitive games in 2015 (one against a West Ham side that had given up, and one against League Two Northampton), its hard to be so. In terms of league finishes, top 10 is the desired effect, but that seems to be the case for a lot of the league. Actually trying would be a start - so many players look like they don't, or they just surrender when the opening goal goes in.

With Pardew, I could take a midtable finish in 2012/13, but a relegation battle, poor tactics and a poor transfer policy were a major backward step. Then in 13/14, we were appalling after Cabaye left, and it seemed as though everyone involved lack interest in doing anything after mid-January. The fact the team didn't try for a lot of that period and those who remained carried it over to the first two months of last season were appalling. At first it seemed like the default "Manager sucks" routine, but it seems with certain players (Sissoko) to be deep-seeded, and makes me wonder if we should've sold them.

I dunno. We bought 4 good players in the summer for the first team but we could've used another 2/3, particularly in defence and attack.

Would it help if we gave you Debuchy back?

Maybe - could push Janmaat into a winger role given he seems substantially better going forward than he does defending.

Yeah its very weirdly phrased. And not least given Pardew finished 12th in his first half-season as well as the 16th in 2012/13, and we were lucky to get top 10 in 2013/14 - were it not for Cabaye and Remy we would have been significantly lower.

I don't think Pardew is as good as he thinks he is, but long before the end at NUFC, he looked like he wanted to move. That's fine - sometimes, its time for things to reach a point of ending. But we waited six months to replace him with a Derby County reject on Carr's personal argument, and everything has fallen to shit in the meantime. Early days, yeah, but not promising so far.

I'm also getting it in the neck from a Watford fan I know after Lee Ryder called Watford "pygmies in a land of giants" in an op-ed piece earlier this week. I mean, Christ on a bike.

I missed the Watford game so can't comment with any conviction, but the fuck are doing losing at home to them?

Ticket to see Muse in April next year.

Significantly more expensive than I was hoping, and even flipped a coin before deciding to buy, but I'm excited for the shows already. So fucking bring it on.

Yeah the doubts seem to be surfacing regarding McClaren. I'm not convinced 4-2-3-1 is the best use of our players, or if it is, then we're using the right players/positions. Bit odd that loads of teams are playing unsuitable 4-2-3-1 formations this season, so clearly we're fitting in.

Sissoko and Cisse seem to be getting a bigger pillorying than anyone else on Twitter. Though tbf both were pretty terrible, while Colback was also pretty crap. But with full-backs that struggle to defend and a reprise of the stodgy attacking play that seems to have been a fixture of the last year an a half, then we're going to have problems.

Watford has the air of a must-win already.

Apparently NUFC got held up in traffic and arrived at West Ham 45 minutes late. Not an ideal start.

What genius at Sky picked this dreary snoozefest?

Presumably for the next time these two meet a sound-proof wall should be erected between the dugouts.

Why are neither playing?

Meanwhile, Moussa Sissoko said in a French mag interview that he thinks Yohan Cabaye gets picked for the French team as he plays for a bigger club.

I really wish he'd just shut up sometimes.

Nothing gets between Ade and his contract. Nothing.

Clearly not if God has anything to do with it.

Scotland v Germany was quite a good game, albeit with some laughably terrible defending for the first 4 goals. Think it may also have been the first qualifier I've bothered to watch more than half an hour of.

That goal from Kyle Lafferty looks a fucking massive goal.
They look a bit of the international equivalent of Spurs. From a distance they look good, but when you state at them up close you wonder where the good players are.

That's kinda true, but even so, you'd think they'd manage more than one point from games with Iceland and Turkey.

Maybe it is just a thing that they have phases of having a good run to tournaments, then fail to even reach one - good at the 1998 WC, then failed to even reach 2002's one.

Rumour flying around that we were offered Charlie Austin on deadline day and said no.

Tbf, I think we would've taken it if Papiss Cisse had left.
EDIT: Apparently the deal was 10mill plus Aarons going the other way on permanent... don't think that would've been good.

Clubs don't actually get that until next summer.

I think this might be the £77million or so received in prize money last season.

It was a pretty poor decision not to get in a manager in January, or at least a more capable stand-in than that numpty we did have. I also think we were short defensively, and in attack. So at least steps have been made to improve all three in this window, without weakening the other squad areas.

I'm not so sure we'll be active in January due to the value for money issue. We could still bring in a defender I guess, as one would be useful with the lack of options at RB and potential for upgrades at LB. I think also long-term we need to improve our homegrown player quota, although the fact English players are a fucking rip-off doesn't help that line of thought.

oh, and beat Accy away 2-1 in the JPT but I couldn't give a toss about that competition

With the exception of the winners and perhaps the losing finalists (trip to Wembley and everything), does anyone really care?

I still think we need a new full-back, maybe 2 and a centre if we're willing to splash, and I did see some claim we have a big warchest lying in wait for the upcoming few windows. But we'll wait and see I guess.

In the meantime, I think the most important things to resolve until then are stopping the absurd collection of yellows and reds we're getting, and the fact we're not shooting as much as we should. Given the fact West Ham have already got 6 red cards, and we've picked up more red cards than anyone since the start of the 2013/14 season, that game could be quite a challenging one for the ref.

Bradley Johnson has joined Derby.

Little surprised Norwich have let him go given he was a key man in their promotion last year.

West Ham have been surprisingly busy, with Song, Jelavic and Moses all in, and Antonio and Adebayor reportedly on the way in as well. With any luck they'll still be gelling when we turn up in 2 weeks time and fail to convince. One hopes, anyway.

Surprised striker-light MUFC and Arsenal are being a bit more relaxed, even if in the case of the latter, I do think Giroud is a better player than his critics make out.

Dimitar Berbatov possibly about to join Villa... could go either way that one. Lescott to Villa could be a good move, but I think they need a new keeper more than anything as Guzan is stupidly inconsistent.

Do Chelsea really need to have 30 or so players out on loan?

Surely that's a sign of just hoarding players for no real gain.

Seems unlikely anyone will be coming in today, although the club has flat-out said Ayoze Perez isn't for sale after a paper linked him with Spurs. Kemen has gone to Lyon, while it looks to me as though Cisse's best hope of a departure came and went with Turkey's window closing.

Still think we could use another full-back but our window's not been too bad. Hopefully we'll soon get league wins on the board... assuming we can stop accumulating reds.

He might be eased back in, but eventually yeah.

There's no point keeping him not to play him.

Seeing as he's apparently now in advanced talks with Real for a move, perhaps not.
