I don't think appointing him is a good idea, but daft ideas like that appear to the normal at St. James'.

Wouldn't be a surprise for Newcastle to appoint him and limp to the finish tbh.

Amazing how quickly this has developed from a whisper to the big story in town. Also irritating and a bit boring to see the queue of people describing NUFC fans as fickle.

I've seen Slaven Bilic suggested and I'm surprised he's not mentioned for more BPL gigs. As much as de Boer would work, I don't see him happening, and the same goes for Pulis, albeit for political reasons in his case. God knows why Steve Bruce is being suggested.

In terms of potential replacements, its not going to be Pulis - he fell out with them over transfers and I really doubt he would want to work with Ashley. If its true de Boer turned down Spurs, I doubt its going to be him either. After that, the bookies favourite is making Coloccini player-manager, which would be a perplexing idea.

It might not be too bad for Pardew. He is held in esteem by them for his cup heroics in 1990, and he (apparently) personally knows Palace chairman Steve Parish, who probably won't be as pain in the arse a boss to work in as Mike Ashley.

I'm not wholly on board, but the stat we've lost 20/38 Premier League games since Boxing Day last year and failed to score in 19 of those 38 is pretty shit.

Saying that, it mostly seems to have so far been an exercise in fouling and bookings. Someone is going to sent off. Again.

Some awesome goals in the BPL today, and some decent games by the sounds of it too.

Pardew will probably still play him against Sunderland.

Clearly I misred the headline.
Still a fair old bit of cash.

Hopefully we won't be trying to protect his goal with Williamson again, or trying to attack with that useless lump Gouffran.

£24million a year is his reported salary.
The finances in sport are getting absurd and its going to be even more stupid when the new TV deal is signed in the spring. Apparently £10million-per-game is the reported price of the new TV rights deal.

Well, you were right about the winners of our tie facing the Blades.
I missed the game and tbh it sounds like I was doing myself a favour by avoiding it. Also sounds as though Jak Alnwick damaged his shoulder so Freddie Woodman will be making his first Newcastle appearance in the Tyne-Wear Derby... that might be a stretch too far.

I only watched the Newcastle-Chelsea game from Cisse's first on, so I'm not sure what the system was before Cisse replaced Cabella. In the meanwhile, is Aarons still injured?
In any case, the return of Saylor and Sissoko should hopefully make us a bit better for Spurs and Sunderland. Hopefully, anyway.

Cabella looked more likely to do anything than Gouffran yesterday. Ameobi was better than some consensus has been, but this was not one of his best performances. If Aarons is fit then he should be ahead in the pecking order.
I think Pardew got the tactics wrong - 4-2-3-1 is not a system that works for our team, and while Sissoko's suspension was a bitch, we could still have kept the 4-3-3 we've had of late rather than changing it to accommodate Gouffran. Also, its a bit odd that Dummett has looked more convincing a CB than Williamson.

I thought Arsenal weren't as good as the scoreline suggested - Sanchez was alright but had a bit of a patchy game, Welbeck didn't really do a lot and Cazorla had a shit first half, although he was improved in the second. Hector Bellerin looked a good player, and Debuchy looked accomplished at centre-back - moreso than Mertersacker, who seemed shaky. Maybe a team with a more persistent/inventive attack could've taken advantage.

Arsenal weren't even four goals good. It just helped them that Newcastle had suspensions and an incoherent teamsheet.
