Well... not a bad afternoon's work that.

(I admit I did not watch it live but five goals and a missed penalty against nine men sounds like an eventful afternoon)

Apparently Tan had decided to sack Mackay after the City win. There's a vid of him snubbing the handshake after the game

That's pretty odd thinking. Surely Tan, despite everything, knows beating Man City is a vast improvement on losing to Peterborough like they did last season.

Maybe if Mackay more time winning football matches than leaking e-mails and complaining about only spending £35m in the summer.....

Tan and Allam have ruined Cardiff and Hull up a division.

I don't get the hate on Hull's owner. The name change is a dumb idea but at least its limited to that and little else.

Cardiff's owner just seems like a complete and total madman that wants all the glory.

So, his replacement?

My outside bet is on Holloway.

Because of the timing of this post, I registered it as Holloway replacing Aguero in the Man City front line. In fairness, that would be hilarious.

But in terms of the sacking of AVB, I was more surprised by WBA dismissing their manager. Yes, AVB got Spurs their highest ever points total but they should be doing a whole lot better with this new squad. They've been poor almost all season and this game and the associated post-match comments felt like the end of the road for him.

City-Barcelona could be a very good pair of matches.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are probably fucked, Drogba will almost certainly score and Man U are going through.

Cant believe Clarke has gone. Harshest sacking in Premier League history?

Nigel Adkins' sacking last season was more uncalled for, even despite the fact Southampton have improved since.

Odd goings on at St. James... Sissoko somehow sending the ref flying has to be up with the oddest things of football this year.

Who had Martinez at the last WC? (or might have been the Euros). I just remember him giving some great tactical insights.

He was on ITV I think.

I have only heard their albums for the first time this week. This is certainly by far and away the weakest.

Very recent allegation as well - he apparently fixed a booking in Blackburn's game at Ipswich a week ago.

"Former Premiership footballer DJ Campbell is among six people being questioned in connection with allegations of fixing in football matches, his club have confirmed.

"Mr Campbell, who plays for Championship side Blackburn, was one of six people arrested on Sunday."

Certainly have. Did you see the game they played against Wigan a few weeks back? McKenzie (one of the five from this week) stamped on McLean when the Wigan lad was on the ground and somehow McLean got sent off. They could also have managed the rare feat of having two sent off in the same passage of play against us. The ref played a great advantage after a horrible McKenzie foul and Scannell went on to be fouled in the box, earning their lad who conceded the penalty a second yellow. McKenzie escaped with a yellow.

Par for the course with Ince, though. Had a glance at the Football League records for his MK Dons team from 09/10 - 629 fouls, 128 (ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHT!) yellow cards, and 8 reds. Bearing in mind the average is about 70 yellows and 4 reds in a season, either MK got some very over-zealous refs or the finger has to be pointed at the manager.

It sounds like he needs to rethink some of his tactical approaches. At the rate they're going they will have probably set a new red card record by February.

Blackpool have had five dismissed this week, and eight this season. Add to that a manager who got himself a five-match stadium ban, and you have a one club discipline problem.

Sounds like my Newcastle team on FM10.

I swear they've come close to even more than that 8 as well.

Webb has been shit - I've seen players sent off for less than Shelvey gave Debuchy.

Not that it excuses a poor team performance.

I'm surprised Man U-Everton has been overlooked given its the first meeting between Moyes and his old charges.

Still, suppose not being picked is preferable to wall-to-wall MUFC.

I remember having him in against Norwich where he got an assist - maybe not "first thing" but first goal since he's been put in at least.

It is a major annoyance of being quite good, you begin to really regret the bad results, if only Newcastle beat Hull, Sunderland and West Ham, and got the draw against Everton. Top.

Crazier to think that after the Sunderland game, most people would have loved to see Pardew sacked, and a month later he will (almost certainly be manager of the month. No doubt Arsenal fans will feel much the same about the Villa and WBA games.

More importantly though Newcastle have opened a big lead over Swansea, WBA and Aston Villa. Arguably in a mini-league with Everton and Southampton at the moment. In the upper mid-table battle.

Its been a strange season where we've got points in the games I expected us to lose (Spurs, Chelsea) and then played like drains in the games we should be winning (Sunderland/Hull).

It makes a mockery of any attempt to accurately pinpoint us in the Prediction League but heyho - we got one point in 5 games last November, so we've made one hell of an improvement and are looking quite decent. It certainly gives good optimism for the next few weeks, and who knows, maybe even a first win at Old Trafford in a stupid amount of years could be doable. Well, here's hoping at least.

All we've got to do now is educate Papiss on how to score. Talking of which...

Rating of Cisse very harsh considering he came on about 10 seconds from the end of the game

What the hell?
