After the howking by the Trent, the two Davids at West Ham have given Sam Allardyce their full backing.

Wonder if backing will still be there if they fail to win until the end of next month.

FA Cup fourth-round draw
Sunderland or Carlisle v Kidderminster or Peterborough
Bolton v Cardiff
Southampton v Yeovil
Huddersfield v Charlton or Oxford
Port Vale or Plymouth v Brighton
Nottingham Forest v Ipswich or Preston
Southend v Hull
Rochdale v Macclesfield or Sheffield Wednesday
Arsenal v Coventry
Stevenage v Everton
Wigan or MK Dons v Crystal Palace
Derby or Chelsea v Stoke
Blackburn or Manchester City v Bristol City or Watford
Bournemouth or Burton v Liverpool or Oldham
Birmingham, Bristol Rovers or Crawley v Manchester United or Swansea
Sheffield United v Norwich or Fulham

Largely unspectacular, although I love the possiblities in the second last tie

Surely Sam can't survive a 5-0 defeat to a Championship side?

I hope he's still around when we turn up at Upton Park in two weeks time... should be an easy win.

Forgot I had this... it got side-tracked because I forgot the login details of my Imageshack account when looking to post up a league table, and since then I've lost the game disk and got caught up in the fun or otherwise of the real world.

Should be back up and running soon enough.

Means Mandzukic should be available in the summer.

There's a rumour going round that he's a January target of Arsenal. Which means it probably won't happen, or at least not right now.

Santon - Taylor - Yanga-Mbiwa - Haidara is today's defence.

Looks pretty decent but I guess we await to see it in practice. Today's team in general looks like it should win though.

I saw American Hustle and enjoyed the performances of the lead actors, but felt something in the plot and certainly tone was awry.

It certainly confused me they went after Jeremy Renner's character when he didn't seem to have anything against him, and the film made it look like they just wanted to take him out for the sake of it.

Clearly a way of just making sure they don't get Clattenburg as a ref for a while. Not a bad idea

Probably, yeah. Doubt it'll work, mind.
All Sunderland fans have to go on official transport for the derby. - Must be a bit shit for fans who don't live in Sunderland. (although not living in Sunderland is a positive)

Seems a bit shit.

I thought this was happening a lot more often in what the police think are games with potential for trouble. It's a bit shit, yes, but it seems to be viewed as the solution to... something.

Looks like Southampton aren't content to let the PGMOL judgement be the end of the matter:
The club are determined to help the FA carry out a full investigation after Riley claimed in his letter that it was simply 'game management'.

Southampton spokesman Jordan Sibley said: 'An official insulting any player, no matter his intentions, is clearly not acceptable behaviour. For this reason we do not accept the verdict of the PGMOL in relation to this case, and do not consider the matter to be over.

'Under the circumstances we do not feel it appropriate for Mr Clattenburg to officiate in any of our matches until this matter is properly resolved.'

How did anyone put up with Craig Bellamy, used to constantly moan like fuck at everyone on the pitch. Also to add to what Ninja said, i think its fucking disgraceful the way players are allowed to swear at the refs/linesman and get away with it and this is coming from someone who was terrible at arguing with refs over their decisions during games. But even at our level you would never get away with swearing at the ref, usually a straight red for telling him fuck off for example.

We can probably vouch for Bellamy being a cunt given he once famously threw an airport chair at one of our coaches following a row over a parking space, and almost clobbered Shay Given instead.

Maybe refs have spent so long having players shout at them that they now think its time to give it a go back themselves, to some respect. If it stays at words and doesn't escalate to refs jut not giving decisions because they hate the players, then that is a problem.

I think I remember Clattenburg asked Man City staff "How do you put up with Craig Bellamy every week?" a few season back when Mark Hughes was their gaffer. Sounds like this is more par for the course tbh.

For some reason I thought the article was just about the initial complaint that the Saints made, and I was just repeating what I found on Sky/Twitter.

Meh.

PGMO has thrown out the complaint. Apparently all Clatternburg said was "You are very different now, since you've played for England", which is a bit of a petty remark, but hardly worth complaining about.

I don't see why we'd sign him.

Also not sure why we'd sign Cabella given we have a fair amount of CM's, although he sounds like he could be a useful option.

Heitinga's to Newcastle is a very strange one. Signing in a guy on a big contract who hasn't played in 6 months (and is either past it or lost form) and will probably only be cover.

Unless Newcastle are letting Coloccini go or something....

I'm aware his move to West Ham fell through but is he really being linked with us?

He was terrible at Everton last season so adding him would be a bit of a baffling idea.

Mad stat I saw yesterday about no Chelsea striker getting an away goal for 13 months before Torres.

They've scored away in the Champions League but yeah, its ridiculous they went 13 months without an away Premier League goal.

Team: Newcastle United
League Position: 8th

Star Man: Loic Remy. Hard to look beyond him and his goalscoring exploits.
Most Improved: There's a few for this one. Williamson and Tiote were both terrible last year, but have been vital players this season, while Mathieu Debuchy was largely woeful in the second half of last season and now looks like one of the league's best full backs (yesterday aside)
Best Youngster: Paul Dummett is the only youngster to have really played that much, with some good and some bad games. One to look out for perhaps.
Most Disappointing: Papiss Cisse has never really looked like scoring so far this season, and says a lot that Ameobi has displaced him despite going a whole year without a league goal.

Best Game: The win at Old Trafford narrowly edges the Chelsea win, although both were special
Best Goal: Moussa Sissoko v West Bromwich Albion
Worst Game: The failure to perform at Sunderland.

How's the manager doing?: Reasonably well. He'll always have critics and hasn't always got it right this season but he's taken bold moves since the Derby defeat that have improved the team significantly. For that, he deserves praise.
What player do you want in January?: One more striker could still be useful to help take the load off Remy, and so would another full-back. Keeping Remy permanently and resisting bids for Cabaye would also be much-welcomed.
Where will you finish?: Top half. 7th, perhaps.

Overall Grade: B+ (A for games after the derby)

Its probably cliche to say that Webb would have given those decisions this time last year.
Please just go away Sam, take Nolan with you.....give Noble captain.

Apparently Big Fat Sam has said he may strip Nolan of the captaincy following this transgression.

Daresay a second red in a month hasn't helped his cause...

This seems to be more the result of personal vendetta rather than any sound footballing logic, although Cardiff's display against Southampton was hardly what Mackay needed for his job security.
