Would be daft of Sturgeon to veto it, it would lose her chance of Scottish Independence as then whomever is in charge at Westminster would just veto that in the petty way politicians go about their business.

I honestly don't see us leaving the EU disappointingly, the whole referendum seems to have just been a political coup to remove the major party leaders. Boris won't do it if he gets in, nor Gove.

It's a shame, because if the choice then becomes a UKIP government headed by Farage but we get to leave the EU or someone else but we remain then I'd have to vote remain. I can't see how the other parties can elect someone more vile than Farage and I could never vote for UKIP.

What a farce. We actually have a chance to do the right thing, the country even turns out to vote, but in the end none of it matters because it was all party politics.

Should have been obvious from the start I suppose as Boris was always going to set himself up against Cameron whichever option that meant "supporting". Shame Corbyn couldn't have been allowed to show his true colours and support the leave campaign, then we wouldn't have all been branded racists! Would have taken the bloody limelight of Farage too and allowed for a proper debate.

zzZzzz

Really conflicted here, prefer the Croatian team but have Portugal in the work sweepstake and could do with the money!

Also, Portugal win worst kit of the tournament. Even the Turkish away kit is no match for it.

It's not that I disagree with him, it's that he seems inept. He made no attempt to offer any sort of leadership,

Either he's inept and will be ineffective to in an election. Or he is a politician who has kept out of it to not alianate himself from the working class - which isn't going to work when you're seen as the alternative to the elite.

Thats bollocks and you know it. They had an independence referendum on the basis that they would remain in the UK & the EU, they unanimously voted to remain and now they're being told they have to leave the EU? Nah they deserve another referendum after we pulled the rug from beneath them.

Fair enough, don't know too much about what happened in the Scotland referendum other than the result for the most part. If the whole remain part of the UK was based on the Eu membership then it's fair enough they get another referendum. As I said, I'm all for Scottish Independence.

I kind of hope Trump wins just so we don't look like the biggest idiots.

If Corbyn gets eaten by the sharks as the Labour party attempts to follow suit in ripping itself apart, Trump might inspire Lord Sugar to do similar in this country at the head of Labour! Imagine what a GE would look like with Boris Johnson v Lord Sugar!

If Westminster gives even the slightest fuck about the will of the Scottish people they should let Scotland stay in the EU in a reverse of the kind of deal that the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man have.

The same should happen with Gibraltar, 95.9% of them voted remain and this result fucks them over in grandiose fashion.

Shit like this is just as bad as people saying everyone who voted Leave is a racist.

Scotland had their referendum, they voted to remain in the UK and as such face the same consequences as the rest of us. If anything, it highlights the pointlessness (is that a word?) of referendums - as touched upon earlier in the thread.

Personally, I am all for Scottish Independence and more local governance. They voted to remain though and shouldn't be able to pick and choose which bits they want. You take the good with the bad, however you view either.

As Suffolker Seasider touched on at the end of one of his posts, what does this mean for first time buyers now? I am aware that house prices will drop but mortgage rates/interest will increase? Anyone with a bit more knowledge shed some light on this?

A snippet from a BBC article:

The Bank of England may consider raising interest rates to combat extra pressure on inflation. That would make mortgages and loans more expensive to repay but would be good news for savers.
The Treasury previously forecast a rise of between 0.7% and 1.1% in mortgage borrowing costs, with the prime minister claiming the average cost of a mortgage could increase by up to £1,000 a year.

Nothing concrete though.

Given what you've said are you happy with the outcome or would you have preferred a Remain vote with a strong enough Leave % to give Brussels a kick?

Well Leave won, so yeah I'm happy with the outcome in that sense. As I said, give people power and they want more - they also hold onto it tighter. Even if Remain won with 50.1% I don't think Brussels would have cared, we had to Leave for a difference to be made. Part of the negotiations will probably mean immigration remains the same anyway in an effort to appease Brussels whilst they try and crucify us to make us an example to all those countries now pondering their own referendum.

However, I think it's the wrong time for Cameron to resign, which I never thought I would say. By doing so he's given a hell of a boost to Boris and Farage and that leads us in the direction that all the 'Little Englanders' and easily stereotyped Leave voters are suggested to want. Corbyn looks likely to be fed to the sharks next, Lib Dems might gain from this as they reclaim all the student voters they lost when they lied about uni fees. Ashamedly, I don't actually know who the Lib Dem leader is anymore since the betrayal of Clegg.

I think most countries current leadership has acted with beffudlement and worry, Germans seem the angriest. Seems a lot of opposition leaders have seen this as their chance to gain some power and votes in their countries by suggesting it might be in their countries interests to also have a referendum on EU membership. Think that's the case last I read or heard for at least the French, Dutch and Swedish.

Also, hello VP, didn't realise you were so close to me down here. Work with a few guys who live down Leigh-on-Sea. :waves:

I know I voted Leave, but I have nothing against the free movement and immigration imposed by the EU. That and the trade laws should have been the be and end all of the EU, but give people a bit of power and they want a lot more. It was getting ridiculous and I did not want some super europe country run from Brussels with blanket laws. Not that I think the current system we have in the UK is democracy how it should be either, but one thing at a time.

Also, on a more selfish note, as a first time buyer (or trier for the past 2 years) I'm hoping I can get a house for a better price now. Though I understand mortgage rates will probably rise for the moment, I'm hopeful of a better market.

Don't suppose whilst we're having all these referendums that next year's can be should we abolish the House of Lords? Too much to hope for I guess.

How's this gonna work if/when I visit Ireland again? Last time started out in Belfast and drove all around Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland back and forth willy-nilly. Now I guess there'll be border checks and all sorts? Can see this leading to more shit over there again...

Seems to close to call, most polls seem to come out with at most a 4% swing either way that I've seen. Will be interesting!
