Newcastle have won game to nil this year, (Due to Bournemouth missing from everywhere)

Chancel Mbemba has given away four goals in Newcastle's last three games.

Terrific officiating.

Very brave for the linesman to not give that. He got to be 100% sure!

Except for Shola, he's probably distraught.

I reckon we'd have more points if Williamson played every game aside Colo than Mbemba.

We've completely fucked this Teixera deal, doing what fucking Arsenal did with Suarez and pissing about over a few million. Wouldn't be surprised if we missed out on him completely now.

Do you even know if he's any good?

I reckon 90% of managers name the lineup, the formation, and give basic tactical instructions - such as when/who to press and a basic gameplan ie cross more as the striker has the beating of their centre backs.

I doubt it's even possible to communicate that much more anyway.

Actually you know what's worse than 'enganche' etc. -'Distribution' - when did passing or kicking become 'distribution'. And why do some people rate it so highly? - how many goals does a keeper contribute towards by having accurate kicking?

Football people saying 'Not too dissimilar' and 'disinterested' as well. The referee should look disinterested at that decision, thank you very much.

£24m on Shelvey and Townsend is miles too much but they seem more like the kind of player that Newcastle should be going for. It was obvious that Cabella and Thauvin were going to fail. Especially Thauvin, I've no idea why they splashed out on him after seeing what happened with Cabella - they seem pretty much identical.

I don't know, Thauvin seemed to be an obsession for some reason. It looked like a wrong signing coming off a difficult season at Marseilles.

I agree that they're not particularly great players but if they were would they be going to Newcastle in the first place?

Its the same with the moaning about Charlie Austin. Is anyone really surprised he'd rather go to Southampton than Newcastle?

Its a relatively positive step for Newcastle fans that have long complained about buying cheap players from the continent who have by and large failed that they're willing to stump up the cash for players who aren't that, no?

Newcastle were seemingly never in for Charlie Austin in this window. Which is baffling. But it's baffling for the other 19 clubs really.

Nobody is complaining about the lack of investment this season (well at least I hope they're not)

I'm complaining that we're still in dire need of a goalscorer and we're signing anybody but a goalscorer atm.

Yet seem willing to keep bidding/scouting Lacazette when he has no interest in coming here.

Move onto someone a bit shitter as we're not good enough for Lacazette.

That being said - this investment is long overdue, should have been done years ago.

Or maybe it's just a rumour? We're still being linked with Bafe Gomis ffs - I can't fathom that being true.

Even then two of the more persistent rumours are that Remy want's to come back but is waiting on Pato and that WBA have put a massive value on Berahino - those two have far more substantial weight behind them than Lacazette. The rumour is that Lacazette has changed his mind rather than Newcastle have bid again.

Paul Dummett has scored the same number of league goals as Alexandre Lacazette, Bafetembi Gomis, Loic Remy and Saido Berahino combined in 2015.

John Stones probably is over-rated but its not hard to see why, can't think of many centre-backs as well rounded as he is. And whilst he's still got a way to go, he's 21 after all, I can't see anything that will stop him from being great.

As an aside anyone who uses the phrase 'Trequarista' or 'Enganche' in any sort of discussion outside of FM deserves to be lynched. Jamie Jackson described Juan Mata yesterday as 'the Spanish Trequarista' should be a sackable offence on its own, that.

Even in FM...

Regista is about the only somewhat tolerable one as it doesn't have a translation into English. 'Quarterback' is worse, and 'deep-lying playmaker' is wordy.

Enganche is just an Argentinean style attacking midfielder - Riquelme is normally used as the example.

OK yeah fair enough, very few are backing McClaren - but I just find these nuggets too delusional;

"To be honest I find SM saying what he has to and playing proper passing football - very brave considering."

Absolute delusion from the people who are still blaming Riviere/Obertan/Gouffran/Williamson etc. for these defeats. Playing with 'dross' should make the good players stand out more - and our supposed superstars, Mitrovic, Wijnaldum, Sissoko, Shelvey and Perez by and large have been collectively poor this season.

This season is just a 10/10.

The NUFC megafans - still blaming Pardew for this. Still praising McClaren. Blaming Dummett for yesterday. Still think Mitrogoals and Gini are great players. I'm excited for next season, when we're playing Huddersfield and they decide they can't take the pain anymore or 'boycott' and fuck off for a couple of years.

I'm guessing that as Southampton recently used 3 at the back tactics when they beat Watford and that we were the better side in the FA Cup tie, even with gifting them the win, it was used. But the stats indicate we were poor and so to do the anecdotes. Its an oddity as the teamsheet Tweet before kick-off had 4-4-1-1, then essentially a 3-5-1-1, before ending by the sounds of it in a 4-2-1-3, and being poor in all of them. Regardless, our away form is concerning - lowest away scorers in the league is not a badge of pride.

Lascelles I guess was easy to make me a little uneasy as he was poor at left-back against Man City and was last given a larger role in the humilation by Palace, but I've seen a few saying he was one of the only few that tried. I still think as we only had 4 match-fit defenders (although I'm guessing Steven Taylor will be around for Everton).

Special top marks surely for Gouffran, Perez and Riviere inexplicably sending easy headers off target.

I saw that one of his players broke his glasses during the melee. If it was a defender then penalty enough should be having to buy him his new pair.

I think we were 4 at the back for the first 20 and looked fine. I thought Lascelles looked a donkey at first, but he's been fine most of the time. Palace and Man City the damage was already done.

I'm outragred by the accusations Wijnaldum doesn't play in away games. He also doesn't play in most home games as well. I guess he was played out of position again today! Why won't McClaren play him as an enganche rather than a trequarista? He's been McClarened!!! No wonder Gouffran looked miles better than him.

Yeah there's something lacking coherence tactically with his decision making, and its very odd that an injury to Paul Dummett of all people means we have to go for a destabilising personnel and tactical shift. The system used v West Ham seemed to work better, and surely even with Lascelles or Mbemba out of position at LB, it shouldn't have lead to an immediate double whammy of changes that sapped of the good qualities of that afternoon.

Seems to be a forward thing to - apparently Janmaat and Shelvey were seen complainiing the forwards didn't do enough moving.

NUFC have been in the bottom six since the opening month, and only 5 wins in 23 for McClaren... most clubs in this position would've pulled the trigger by now.

McClaren switched tactics because he wanted to - Not because of the injury to Dummett imo. He played five at the back last month against Watford.

And Watford's second goal will look bad at MOTD but they had us under the kosh for a good 10 minutes the goal was coming. Janmaat, Colo, Mbemba and Lascelles had reasonable games today.

Steve McClaren's tactics are actually baffling. When Newcastle lost five in a row he kept it the same. When Newcastle win he changes it.

Seemed to start with a back four, plays well, then swaps to a back five with two deep midfielders. So basically playing with a defensive 7 - one of which is a winger. Bizarre. And Saivet playing as a total anchor so Shelvey had no way to maneuver.

I didn't want Shelvey - As I thought he was a complete Hollywood player, who is normally average at best. He took a week to prove me wrong. And two weeks to prove me right.

And I can't stand the sight of Wijnaldum- another game another dreadful performance.

McClaren seems to lack any sort of balls with his subs. Took off his easy targets in Saivet and Aarons, left on Shelvey and Wijnaldum. Made his subs too late.

Watford looked pretty awful defensively. Sissoko looked to have the beating of Ake, Britos looked really bad and Paredes looks an absolute joke.

Can't put out a back four at the weekend but were well stocked in defence so don't need to buy any.

Hmm.

Absolutely irresponsible not having a 4th choice left back.

Not like in our last two games we played against real full backs like Ashley Young and James Tomkins.

How do you come to these figures? 1 year ago Newcastle were in the top 10 and now they need to spend around £130m to get into the top down. The PL has improved by £130m? How many 'Premier League' players do Crystal Palace have? How much would you value their entire squad at?

http://talksport.com/football/premier-league-clubs-ranked-net-spend-last-five-summer-transfer-windows-150903165355?p=8 - Apparently we have the fifth highest net spend in the past five summer windows? cba to find a better link. Do you really think clubs like Palace, WBA, Watford have been consistently outspending Newcastle over the past five years?

Why do people think the decision to only buy Vurnon Anita in 2012 is relevant now?

And the rumours aren't even particularly negative today. One is no one is quite sure if WBA are willing to sell and at what price, and the other is Newcastle are frustrated with Spurs. (The other rumour is that the clubs are getting closer)

Apparently Austin asked for 80k/pw so either that, worries over his knee or the club just don't rate him. And remind me again why a 26 year old Englishman who signed for £4m doesn't have resale value?

Norwich taking a bit of a risk signing two random Euro-defenders.

Looking at the table Palace and Watford probably have a bit too many points to get dragged in. And I have faith in Pulis to drag 3 wins and 3 draws while playing awfully.

Football is broken, mate. Especially at this level. The latest FFP rules actively encourage spending over your means to chase the riches of the Premier League. Average players earn ridiculous money (see above for one example). The emphasis on the instant fix and throwing money at it is ridiculous. Bolton, if truth be told, aren't the worst culprits - they're the ones who Premier League excesses simply caught up with and who had a chairman who had had enough. I can think of quite a few other clubs, even among the ranks of the sensibly-run, who would be even further up the creek if the chairman pulled the plug because they're not sustainable. In fact, I'd argue most of the division falls into that category.

A major financial crash will come somewhere down the line and a lot of clubs will find themselves in bother as they were from about 2001-2003 as revenues from such as TV dry up. That said, I've been predicting that crash for years and it hasn't happened yet and doesn't show any real signs of happening soon.

How?

Since the end of the 5th place season, he's not been consistent in any way. He's had episodes of playing something like his form in his first two seasons, including of late, but its mostly been unimpressive.

£8m for a 29-year-old who has been far too inconsistent works out I guess.

tbf if Tiote asked to leave I'd get rid as I'd worry he'd just 'get injured' and fuck off for a while. If not selling a good player in the middle of a season when you're in a relegation battle is silly.

Southampton have signed Charlie Austin for £4m.

Well... seeing as he's apparently a boyhood Saints fan and cba with moving from the South, guess it was to be expected NUFC wouldn't land this one. Ho hum.

I don't think Newcastle were interested. Bizarre, I think he'd improve every club in the League aside from Arsenal/Man City. £4m is nothing.

Look at the state of this. Embarrassing how the Chronicle sticks up for their mates. Carr and Charnley are top Geordies. Who love to give us a news story. Pashun.

"Newcastle’s problem is the inflexibility of the approach passed down by Ashley" - Oh it's Ashley's fault.Of course he personally scuppers all these deals. Llambias allowed Hughton to sign Sol Campbell. Kuqi and Stephen Ireland also arrived later on in this season. Llambias also signed his mate up to be manager.

Ashley won't sign Charlie Austin because he's 26 an English. No resale value. But willing to sign Papiss Cisse, a 26 year old African for similar money.
