That's quite a weird list. Of players that wouldn't make a difference whether they were here or not (Keane, Henriquez, Wilson, Zaha, Falcao) and players that left an awful long time ago (Kagawa, Welbeck) and he's absolutely eager to use Lingard (I assume you mean him rather than Lindergaard, who left this summer) who's started in our last 10-11 games (apart from Leicester away when he was injured), Powell (who's had a very long term injury) and Pereira.

The one thing you can't blame LVG for is not giving kids chances, he's done it all season with all players. Could Wilson be here and provide cover? Yeah, but its definitely better for him to be playing and scoring and we've got a recall clause on that one. Should we have replaced the players that left? Of course, but I can understand the club wanting the right player rather than any one and not buying if that person/people wasn't/weren't available. What we were looking for, though, beyond a big name, is anyones guess.

For a side going into the season aiming to be fighting on three fronts until January - Rooney/Mata/Martial/Mephis/Young is nowhere near enough as senior players.

It's fair enough offloading the young players if they're not good enough or ready. But they needed some bodies in to replace them. And I'm not really buying Lingard, Pereira and Powell were part of the plan. He debuted Lingard on the opening day of last season and then loaned him out - He's almost 23 - and I don't know if he;s been injured but only turned up in October this season. Likewise Powell and Pereira have had very limited pitch time so far.

And aside from McNair (and maybe Lingard) - Blackett has probably gotten the most minutes of any of the new younger players - and then he's gotten rid of.

The squad building just seems wrong.

Hernandez wanted to go and he isn't good enough to stand in his way. The first two (RVP and Falcao) have continued to be shite at their new clubs. The real failure imo, was letting Di Maria leave without replacing him, putting ridiculous amounts of pressure on Memphis who pretty much anyone who watched the Eredivise said wasn't ready to be a starter. Relying on Rooney, the overweight drunk, to be our main goalscorer. Loaning out Januzaj to go and sit on a different bench, meaning we're relying on Jesse Lingard who, with the greatest of respect, is not good enough yet. Murdering/Forgetting about Ashley Young who, despite being fairly shit, is at least a body up there. Even fucking Nani would be something!

I'm not saying it was a bad decision in isolation, but allowing Falcao, RVP, Di Maria, Welbeck, Keane, Hernandez, Kagawa, Nani, Henrique, Wilson, Zaha and Januzaj all leave - And replacing them with Martial and Depay - two young players. LvG doesn't seem that eager to use Lingaard, Powell or Perreira either.

Coupled in with LvG will seen Rooney's pre-season, and will have decided he didn't want to play Wilson. You could argue Martial playing out of his skin early doors has kept Man Utd from crisis

Manchester United have made some strange decisions in hindsight.

Like van Gaal lets RVP and Falcao go. Then also lets Hernandez leave? I know Hernandez isn't a world beater by why go into the season with just Rooney - as it's clear he doesn't fancy Wilson. (And Martial seems set to play as first choice winger)

Also is Van Gaal's youth record really justified? How many has he actually brought through? McNair has done well, but have any of the others? How many of this crop will still be around the side at the end of LVG's contract?

Think Huw Jenkins comes across as a right cunt. The way he undermined Laudrup by appointing Monk. - And then awkwardly keeping Monk on to sack him weeks after making it inevitable.

I also think Monk is an arse. Enjoyed his post match interviews - "I'm not making excuses - but the referee got that wrong"

Aren't the linesman and the ref communicating - ie the linesman confirming that Mata was is an offside position and the ref deciding that Mata was interfering.

Strange season this. Chelsea and Liverpool the worst side we've faced. Leicester and Watford the best.

Klopp got is spectacularly wrong as well. Allen and Lucas with Milner ahead of them is very static. Firmino looked uninterested but he surely should have had Lallana in from the start to move the ball quicker.

Drinkwater and Kante look great as well.

“I am not really a ‘project’ manager. Football is what happens now. We have to win now. I don’t say, ‘my contract is for three seasons, my job is to have a good team after three seasons’. Come on.

“‘Project’ is a nice word. But in life you can’t look forwards. What happens today and tomorrow can be different. It is easy to say, ‘ask me at the end of my contract’. No. I am working now, we are playing now, and we have to win now.”

McClaren looks so completely out of his depth. - And out of time. - It's seem incredible we waited half a season to get him.

Even more incredible that we are absolutely desperate to sell Papiss Cisse. He's our best player by a mile at the minute.

We don't even seem to attempt to play to our strengths. Palace aren't world beaters - but at least them have actual tactics - attack at speed, attempt to get wingers one on one with full backs, put crosses into the box.

The incompetence of Charnley and Carr is staggering. Unbelievable to think we actively got rid of Perch, Abeid, Ameobi & Jonas. All in the name of progress and ambition.

McClaren apparently launching an attack on the players this week. Good to see some fight - even though it may make his position untenable.

I wonder if Newcastle might double down on Cathro - and try and get Nuno once he's sacked from Valencia.

I'll romanticise being in the top 10, and actually looking like a football team, when it looks like they only way we'll survive is by Sunderland, Bournemouth, Villa and Norwich being worse. And I really can't see the point in caring about staying up if that's the case.

And yeah things can change quite quickly - Newcastle turned from a top 10 team to relegation fodder literally the moment they allowed Pardew to leave.

If Newcastle are still in serious relegation trouble by January surely Ashley will get rid of Carr and Charnley.

I don't like McClaren - but I think it might be time to go. He looks a man out of time - all our play seems to be built around languid possession. All our goals seems to come on the break anyway. I can think of maybe two goals this year - where we've actually broken down a defence.

I have no idea how Newcastle can even fix the problem - we've gotten rid of Abeid, leaving Tiote as our only actual holding player - and he's never bloody fit. Meaning Anita, Colback or Gouffran will be shoehorned into a position that doesn't suit them and the defence is never properly shielded. - The double pivot has never worked.

We've now outlawed wingers, the club looked dangerous last year with Aarons, Obertan and Ameobi on the wing. - Now we're playing with two central midfielders on the wing. We have no width and are beyond predictable. Contrast Jonas' final game for the club with what Sissoko, Wijnaldum and Thauvin offer.

At striker Papiss Cisse was incredible last year. He scored 1 goal in 2 games before being ostracized - so we can get 'Mitrogoals' into the side - who spends the majority of the game looking slow and miscontrolling the game.

In theory out team has some talent - but I can't work out how to get a coherent team out of a side with no DM's or wingers. It was so glaringly obvious last season - but the club and fanbase are so moronic - instead choosing stupid non issues to focus on like blaming Mike Williamson for the midfield being totally unable to function post Pardew.

No but Newcastle recovered from the awful end of the previous season, where he admitted that he couldn't motivate the squad and after an awful summer, he steadied the ship and rediscovered how to win football games - while enduring undeserved hostility.

And again you can't just write off his wins as not mattering - as they came in a run, its nonsensical. Pardew won 6 in a row once. - We've won 5 games since, against Villa, Hull, West Ham, Norwich and Bournemouth.

tbf, I can't think of a single rock band, past that mid 200's boom. 5SOS or whatever they're called is about it. That said, 'To Pimp a Butterfly', A recent Neil Young album, and Suede's comeback album are about the only recent albums I've actually give a regular spin.

I wonder if there's some going "John Carver, all is forgiven". Although grant you I missed the game so can't make further comments other than those on statistical and match reports, all of which to point to three simple words - we were shite.

Carver took 0.68 points per game = 26 points - dead certs for the drop
McClaren is taking .77 points per game = 29 points per season.

So McClaren and is new all star coaching squad, and £50m in investment will amount to an extra 3 points and still lead to relegation. Shocked that Charnley and Carr are still completely inept.

Useless Alan Pardew took 1.37 - A disgusting 52 points (and a cup run). - The lack of ambition is horrendous. We would have finished 10th for the second consecutive year. No one wants that.

It's got nothing to do with race or White privilege It's because Paris is extremely close. And it feels close to home. It was Paris, but it feels like it could have been Paris, London, Munich, Madrid, Stockholm - it strikes more terror - which is by definition the aim of terrorism.

Also informing a 'PoC' about white privilege - is pretty much white privilege.

Yeah, I'd definitely be happy with Lambert. Like you say he did a cracking job at Norwich.

He's had time away to think and reflect, and what happened at Villa may make him a better manager in the long run. He'll have a point to prove.

There seems to be a fair bit in the press this week about xenophobia and anglophobia in the press this week regarding manager selections. - And the criticism that younger English managers don't want to work there way up the divisions. But it seems the ones that do get ignored, and one bad step will tarnish there rep.

Lambert worked his way up from the bottom tier to the PL - and seems to be a joke - not even in the running for the Sunderland or Newcastle jobs, likewise Gary Rowett, Hughton, Dyche, Steve Clarke, Neil Lennon & Alex Neil don't seem to be considered for PL jobs. Where as McClaren was apparently wanted by Sunderland and Everton as well as Newcastle.

Gus Poyet's another one he did better at Sunderland than Advocaat, Allardyce, Di Canio and Martin O'Neill put together. Completely gone from the English game, for the crime of a rubbish Sunderland side playing rubbish.
