My theory was that Hockaday was literally willing to work for free.

How did Hodgson fire up Suarez?

I think the 4-2-3-1 is a total non starter for England. We just do not have the players for it. Assuming Henderson is one CM who is the other? Barry, Lampard and Carrick don't have the pace for it, Wilshere doesn't have the reliability or the discipline. Milner is the best choice in the squad. I think Tom Cleverly might actually be the best choice England has. Or Jack Colback.

Also think it puts far too much emphasis on our wingers to get back and defend. Meaning that they can't get at the opposition enough.

Either way I think England just struggle with an absolute dearth of CM's at the minute. And we simply don't have a proper DM. Not even average ones.

At least Akinfeev hasn't had to play for Sunderland though...

I'm annoyed at Man City because I want a 3pm kick off. Which is now unlikely.

Sammy Ameobi linked with Middlesbrough. Very disappointed if Newcastle let him go.

Adrian Ramos too.

PEA is alright but he's miles away from Reus. + Kuba, Grosskreutz, Mkhitaryan, Jojic. Gundogan to come back and Hofmann may get promoted.

Not totally implausible that they'd sell, but I reckon they'd be able to get back what they paid, and better clubs would probably be in for him as well.

From the hall of inexplicable squad selections, Maxi Rodriguez.

Javier Pastore? No thanks. Carlos Tevez? Fuck no! Maxi Rodriguez six years past his sell-by? Oh God yes, please!

Pearce is a fucking idiot. Fuck off back to Robot Wars.

LET'S GO TO THE JUDGES DECISION. THEY'VE AWARDED A GOAL TO CHAOS II.

In fairness it is an extremely controversial goal. As it is the first goal to be awarded in a World Cup due to goal line technology.

He suggested that Scholes was ‘trying to make a name for himself’ as a pundit. The former Ireland midfielder remarked, “Some of these guys, you think they’re kind of intelligent until they start to speak.” Check out the short clip here:

Disappointed in Hodgson. Absolutely horrendous substitutions, our attacking play completely stopped once Welbeck went off. And Henderson looks so much better than Gerrard in CM.

Baines just doesn't look good enough. He seems to give away a goal every time he plays someone decent. He just never seems to get called on it. I have very little faith in Lallana and Barkley. And Wilshere looks really out of form.

Thought Rooney was alright. And I have a lot of confidence in Hart, Jagielka and Cahill. Think Johnson is alright as well, shanking a cross out of play is a very minor error in the grand scheme of things.

Would have preferred Wilshere in for Rooney, as an extra CM. But a good performance so far apart from Gerrard seems to be contributing very little and Baines looks useless.

Prandelli should get sacked at HT though. Why does he pick a good CB at LB and play Gabriel Paletta at CB? MADNESS.

Oh it's Gabriel Paletta, last time I checked he was a Liverpool reserve and Argentinian.

Chronicle citing reports in France, that he's available for 8m euros. - Link

I don't actually think there is any truth in it. But with Newcastle being linked with Cabella/Grenier/Gomis/Lacazette/PEA it means we're now just waiting for Brett Emerton to complete the bingo card.

Carroll is English - the pricing system on English players doesn't apply to foreign players.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of money Mike Ashley will never pay over 20m for a player while he's in charge of Newcastle.

And you're almost certainly right. As it's unlikely a £20m+ player will ever be willing to come to Newcastle.

But I think Newcastle would be prepared to pay for the right player. It is unlikely that a 'right player' will be available. So I guess one way or the other it will be impossible to prove.

I've never seen Lacazette, but I've seen highlights of Lasogga and he looks good. Seems quick and powerful, but it's very easy to score goals in the Bundesliga if you're quick and powerful. (Anthony Modeste ran rampant there last year)

How can someone actually get to write in a national newspaper and yet be so completely ignorant of what they are reporting on? Simon Bird literally doesn't know the difference between cash and profit.

And 'significant transfer business' will not affect profit.

He might. I get the impression that lots of footballers play FM. - It's a weird though that a few of them might have downloaded facepacks or logos from here, and possibly even of signed up....

Carroll - if you were offered now the mutually exclusive option of

A - Sturridge scores 25 goals next season (and Suarez is sold)
OR
B - Suarez scores 15 goals next season (and Sturridge is sold)

Which option would you choose?

Referee gave everything to Brazil.

Aside from Oscar I wasn't really impressed with any of them.

Perisic, Rakitic and Modric were excellent I though. Olic looked good for a guy in his mid-50's. And I enjoyed him shouting at Jelavic for anything and everything.

We couldn't though.

If we buy for 20m and he does well we'll sell for around 25m.

When was the last time a small club sold a player for more than 40m in the Premier League?

Lukaku is much better than Carroll, and Newcastle got £35m for him. And Spurs got £30m for Berbatov, £40m for Modric and £80m for Bale depending on if you class them as a big club.

I reckon if Newcastle signed Lukaku and he had a good couple of seasons, at least one massive club would pay through the nose for him.

I really don't think we'd go for someone for over 10-12m ish.

No resale value for anyone higher really.

There would be loads of resale value. If he was available for £20-£25m Newcastle could easily sell for £40m+ in 2 seasons if he does well.

No chance in hell we'd stump up the money for Lukaku.

I reckon Newcastle would for the right player. (Upto £25m?)

Stars would have to align perfectly, that he is relatively affordable, and no one better comes in for him, and that he is willing to come to Newcastle.
