Is there a common reason for this, does anyone know if there is a common fix?

Can't see Santon going to Milan, seems a bit of a luxury for Milan to be spending big on a not that good fullback right now. Santon always seems to be linked back to Italy and it never seems to be actually serious. If Radu was a replacement, it would be more likely for Debuchy.

I heard they switched as Cortese simply didn't like Red and White stripes. And they switched to all red whilst wearing Umbro. And Sunderland and Stoke haven't been forced to switch to one colour.

Very thin at the back and upfront, no full backs. Only silver lining is the midfield looks competent enough, but with very little goal threat and a shaky looking defence. Need to sign a lot of players.

Sunderland's current squad for next year;
Mannone
Pickford
Brown
O'Shea
Roberge
Diakite
Cattemole
Bridcutt
N'Diaye
Cabral
Vaughan
Ba
Johnson
Giaccherini
Mavrias
Watmore
Karlsson
Fletcher
Altidore
Wickham
Scocco
Graham
Diakite, N'Diaye, Karlsson, Cabral, Watmore, Vaughan and Graham all returning from loans, and possibly/probably unwanted.
Currently contracts expiring are; Ustari, Westwood, Bardsley, Cuellar, Celustska, Dossena, Vergini, Alonso, Colback, Gardner (WBA), Larsson, Ki, Borini
Sunderland are attempting to retain Larsson, Bardsley and Colback, and I think the Vergini deal is happening. But still a lot of players need replacing, and if they are to sign Alonso, Ki, Vergini and Borini, they will probably be using up most of there transfer budget on keeping the squad at its current standard. - I don't think Sunderland will have too much money available. Suspect Giaccherini may try and go back to Italy, and Cattemole may go to Stoke as well
2015 contract expirations are: Brown, O'Shea, Wickham, Mannone. - Not exactly ideal that they may need to give Wickham and Mannone big pay increases this summer as well.

Be a bit worried about there being too many Burundians in the squad, could lead to disharmony...
Cabella said something nice about Newcastle.

And in truth Newcastle have went for the cup most of the time.
Arsenal knocked Keegan's Newcastle out, due to being better. (R4)
Hull knocked Kinnear's Newcastle out. Due to Newcastle being genuinely horrendous. R3 (Christ that game, possible the worst performance I've ever seen.)
West Brom knocked Newcastle out, never saw the game, lineup looks quite strong.
Stevenage
Brighton I
Brighton II
Cardiff.
I think Brighton II was the only time, Newcastle didn't go for it. And Newcastle did have a genuine injury crisis at the time and were in serious relegation threat at the time. Newcastle were just poor in all of the other cup games.

And Scholes was never underrated he was always seen as England's best CM.
He is, in my opinion, the best midfielder in the world, and has a track record for delivering on the big occasions. - Graham Taylor
He has become the most influential player in England, bar none. Not that Vieira lacks anything, but Gerrard does more. - Alex Ferguson
He is undoubtedly one of the best midfield players in the world. -Carlo Ancelotti
"An excellent player, in my opinion, he is a modern player because he is a player who runs, marks, knows how to pass, cross, score goals and he is a leader on the field for Liverpool. So he is a player that I would like to have in my team." - Kaka
"Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of (Lionel) Messi and Ronaldo but yes, I think he just might be. He has great passing ability, can tackle and scores goals, but most importantly he gives the players around him confidence and belief. You can't learn that -- players like him are just born with that presence." - Zinedine Zidane
"Gerrard has been my idol for 10 years and is one of the best players in the world. He is the example of what all midfield players aspire to. He is always there in the heat of the battle, leading by example. He is everywhere you look - in defence, in the middle of the pitch and in attack. I would love to be close to that level." -Daniele De Rossi

2008... the glory years according to some.
Not sure I can quite believe the Modric one, Newcastle seemed to chase him for ages.
Keegan sounded remarkably not bitter in this. and found it funny how fans were heckling for Keegan to have a go at Pardew, and then turns to support for Pardew in the end.

In fairness if Norwich/Cardiff/Fulham signed Remy on loan instead of buying VanWolfswinkel/Hooper/Cornelius/Jones/Mitroglou/Bent they would have easily have stayed up.
Seems to be stemming from Luke Edwards in the Telegraph, who iirc is the banned one?, never mentions a figure in the article, but claims first signing will be in the 'next few days'. Almost certainly bullshit imo
