Paul Scholes was never underrated

He was so under-appreciated while being an automatic selection for England in every important game and playing in one of the most famous Manchester United teams ever and consistently getting into double figures in goals for the season....

I don't think I can think of one time when someone has said Paul Scholes wasn't a very, very good player.

You sound like Ali when he used to be OUTRAGED when anyone played defensively against Barcelona.

Anyway Newcastle were probably the slightly better side today, but Swansea got that little bit of luck, you win some, you lose some etc.

If you're going to disagree with me, why don't you actually try explaining why rather than acting like a petulant child?

Giggs' professionalism in terms of his attitude towards football is incredible - he's adapted his game magnificently as he's gotten older, and he's obviously been extremely dedicated when it comes to maintaining a good level of fitness over the years. However, in terms of his personal life, he's still a low-life and a cheating piece of shit.

Scholes is the archetype for how a modern footballer should be.

Fuck off.

I think the Wolves board has just made some awful decisions - switching from very 'British' style to the Continental and only giving Solbakken 6 months and one transfer window. They seem to be attempting to revert back to McCarthy with Saunders.

Interesting subplot with Ipswich being there as well.

Lukaku, quite comfortably.

Reckon Benteke could be a really good PL striker, but Lukaku could be world class.

12 points is doable, in one game. Man City would just need to give 400%. or 410% to be sure.

Yeah, that was my point, about it being the 'worst' criticism, as in it doesn't make sense, rather than the most stinging criticism.

Anyway when Shirley said people like Inspector Spacetime because it's 'smart' I thought it was laying it on a bit thick, but then I think it was referring to Dan Harmon era, and was referring to Season 4 as the 'American version', i.e suggesting that Community was always going to be hated by sneered at as a weak remake without the 'soul' of true Community, and the guys who did Just Shoot Me, just don't get 'it'.

Community seasons 1-3 have been placed on a spectacularly tall pedal stool.

Practically all the criticism I've seen of season 4, could easily be applied to earlier seasons. The worst criticism is Community's attempts to be clever by having a Halloween episode on Valentine's Day.

I don't think I've ever bought an Xbox exclusive Mass Effect, Halo and Gears of War just don't interest me. Actually bought Halo 3 when I bought my Xbox for £3, played it for 5 minutes, hated it.

Didn't Sony announce something vague about being able to download your old games? This seems like the most sensible option for backwards compatibility. No idea how that would work with discs.

Anyway good to see Sony are trying to take the initiative here, rather than, how arrogant they came across with the PS3 launch.

Nice article on the 'death' of Cardiff's City's identity, about how the Bluebirds have been removed and replaced with the Red Dragon, and no amount of success will make up for the loss of identity. There is definitely not lots of advertising around the page, for a book called the 'The Red Dragons - The Story of Welsh Football'

Anyway, will Rugby completely die in Wales next year, with Swansea and Cardiff in the Premier League?

Yep, was just about to post that...

I have to say, I'm really not impressed with this Borussia Monchengladbach side, Lazio were the better team in Germany and even in the middle of a wretched run of form in Serie A we're easily winning 2-0 tonight.

Gladbach haven't been very good this year, they have been stuck in mid-table and fourth place looks very, very unlikely despite there only being three good teams in the Bundesliga this year. - Potential good news on the coefficient thing, as Frankfurt/Mainz/Freiburg would probably be knocked out in the play-off or be knocked out with 2 points or something.

Anyway the referee tonight was simply awful tonight. He was one of those ref's who looked like they wanted to give free-kicks. I have no idea what he booked Krul for. Krul took a nasty kick from Cristaldo. He then took the freekick by rolling it to Coloccini. The ref then sprinted over after the freekick had already been taken and booked Krul. I don't think it was for time wasting as the ref was talking to a Metalist player on the halfway line when Krul took the kick.

In fairness though, you're comparing him to two excellent keepers who for different reasons have their mistakes blown to high heaven. De Gea has made, from the top of my head, about 3 or 4 errors this season that have lead to goals (and arguably there's always been players more to blame than him for each one) but has the mistakes he has made laughably over-analysed by a media that want to see him fail.

I don't think there's a clear case for any of them being better or worse than the other, and I don't think there's any case for replacing him with players that will inherently suffer the same problem of stepping up to a big club that De Gea and, to an extent, Neuer himself did. Courtois, Begovic, Ter Stergen, Leno and Trapp are all untested at this level and, really, are a gamble for a top team looking for stability (if they're as good as they look they almost certainly turn out to be good, but you have to have the patience through the original errors) especially one that already have a keeper they paid a lot of cash for and has had such a ridiculous record with goals conceded this year.

I think it's pretty unfair to criticise Bayern's CBs as well, Dante is clearly a monster but Boateng and Badstuber are very good players and although I can see Van Buyten shipped out and Martinez used as a 4th choice auxiliary CB (it's the Pep way), and despite the fact they get massive help from one of the best drilled midfields I can remember seeing in recent times I just don't think it makes any sense to go rooting around upsetting a unit thats been that solid this season.

My point was more De Gea wouldn't be considered to be the same class as Casillas/Buffon/Neuer and now if you say Hart is world class, you get smug hipsters saying something about how he's overrated because he's English.

I disagree with assuming a player will need time to step up, young keepers will probably need time, as they are either rated for potential or simply too inexperienced.

I am being very harsh on Bayern's CB's, they are generally good players, it's just in the very, very big games they will be viewed as the weak link. Boateng is a bit too reckless and Badstuber is in my opinion not quite god enough, to be a starter.

And of course it is very possible that Bayern will win the CL with those CB's, like they almost did last year, until a Neuer error.

Finished off Porno a few weeks ago and got started on Football Against the Enemy.

While it was great to see Sick Boy's delusions of grandeur come crashing down on him, Porno really wasn't nearly as good as Trainspotting.

I'm liking Football Against the Enemy, only a few chapters in thus far but the chapters about the former Soviet Union were absolutely fascinating.

There's Tor!, though that isn't really as thorough. There's also some book about Spanish football but I can't remember the title of it.

Read both of those recently. Thought the post-Soviet chapters were the most interesting. Seems absolutely amazing that there is a chapter criticising Bobby Robson. That I felt was the biggest change since 1994.

And how much of Neuer have you seen to base this opinion on?

Basically every time I've seen him he's been poor. I have no idea what he was doing for Arsenal's goal. Watching highlights of the Bundesliga, and seeing him play in the CL and for Germany occasionally. I don't know how he escapes criticism so much, he's probably made as many blunders as De Gea/ Hart this season.

First goal they've conceded this year, let's get a new GK and CB's.

A game in which Bayern's CB's and GK spent about 75 minutes of as complete spectators. - Which has been pretty typical of every game they've played in this year. They dominate as their full backs, midfield and striker are that good, and play excellently as a team.

I should clarify that they need a new CB to partner Dante, as Van Buyten, Boateng and Badstuber aren't good enough (as starters in a team that could be as good as Barcelona/Real Madrid). Martinez might be that man, I haven't seen enough of him at CB. Dante is class though.

Manuel Neuer must be the most overrated player on the planet. He's just not very good.

Pepe, should sign Leno/Trapp/Ter Stegen in the summer. Or Valdes, or Begocvic or Courtouis. And another couple of CB's and the team would be so fb.

Awful article. What are Arsenal fans supposed to do - refuse to support a player because he's not at the standard that we'd expect? Giroud clearly isn't the world class striker we needed to replace van Persie, but he's a damn hard worker who's contributed well to our season so far. As much as I would love Wenger to go out and buy a Lewandowski, Cavani or Jovetic, but as that's incredibly unlikely to happen, I'm going to get behind players we currently have at the club.

I can understand his point, to a very small extent, but statements like "Olivier Giroud is everything that is wrong with Arsenal" is an ignorant, misinformed and sensationalist statement to make. Idiotic.

I don't think it's a good article (and he definately hates Giroud for some reason), but I do think it's relatively interesting in criticising some of Arsenal's popular players, rather than Squillaci, Chamakh and Arsharvin, none of whom ever really play.

And Diaby? Is he really that bad? I've seen him properly once this season, against Liverpool, and he was fantastic.

I meant more that if you wanted to go with the parachute payment idea, you'd really need to go into the finances of each club, which would be very difficult to get.

You can't just say 'X clubs were more successful because of parachute payments' without taking into consideration wages, match day income, rich owners, loans etc.

I'd try and stay away from anything involving clubs finances, there's too many variables.

Don't all clubs publish their accounts?
