Mid-table depends on the season. It's just the uninteresting bit between the quite good teams and the rubbish teams.

Which is the most cowardly action he can take, as he takes his money with him and leaves QPR to rot.

How would one go about doing that?

Besides people should note that QPR are part owned by the richest person in Britain.

It shouldn't matter that they're all best buds - you can't throw a punch. Perhaps I'm being too harsh on Owen, but what really bugs me is the bias shown by the MOTD guys, as well as the likes of Jamie Redknapp on Sky, who often let personal relationships influence their commentary on specific players. They should be completely partial.

They achieved that tbf.

I can't believe how lightly Owen got off on MOTD tonight. He's thrown a punch, there's no question of it, and it shouldn't matter that he's a weak little bitch who can't properly connect a hit when the guy he's going for is on the ground and facing the other way. Can you imagine the reaction had someone like Balotelli thrown a punch at someone? They would have hounded him and exclaimed what a disgrace he was to our fair league. Unfortunately it seems if you spend more time on their sofas than actually playing the game you're paid thousands of pounds a week for, you're allowed to get a free ride from Hansen et al and do whatever the fuck you want.

Oh, and Tony Pulis can go fuck himself. Biased, bitter old cunt.

Arteta also should have gone for his diabolical elbow. Can you imagine if Suarez did that to an orphan?

Did you see Chelsea's sub bench today? It was shit.

Don't let the fachts get in the way of a good moan!

Turnbull, Azpilicueta, Ferreira, Ake, Benayoun, Marin.

Not much choice, Azpilicueta for Ivanovic would have seen him criticised for swapping RB's, rather than putting on another forward. Ferreira, Turnbull, Benayoun and Ake seem like they shouldn't really be brought on. So Marin for Bertrand was maybe the only swap he could make, and no one seems to rate Marin. Chelsea probably would have been far more threatening if Luiz/Mikel were available allowing for Ramires to move upto AM in place of Bertrand or Oscar. Or having Hazard/Moses available to play there.

Chelsea need to appoint a manager, they look like kids with a supply teacher, coasting along.

Well that went well

Zeman sacked and Dortmund interested in Petkovic, in the summer I doubt anybody would have guessed that would happen.

What's happening with Klopp?

Shame about Zeman, I saw Roma against Fiorentina and AC Milan and it looked like it was beginning to work.

EDIT - ZEMAN OUT!

Every team needs a player that's not afraid to fuck his body up for the cause.

I think Trautmann meets the criteria nicely

I'm sure the British will be able to pronounce his name properly now.

Can't imagine that behavior would endear him to his future employers.

Harry Redknapp does not approve of that sort of behaviour.

He normally plays behind the striker, I think that's where Laudrup likes him anyway.

Well, either way, there's no guarantee that he'll want to spend the next few years pumping millions of pounds into QPR and lining the pockets of overpaid millionaires. Portsmouth fans probably didn't think their owners would get up and leave them fucked, but they did. I don't want to keep going on about this, I just find it a bit unsettling given the nature of their spending. I can see why they're doing it, and it might work.

Portsmouth's finances were extremely questionable. Gaydamak snr was getting convicted for arms dealing during the whole crisis. They've since been 'sold' to a bunch of randomers with seemingly no money.

It's not a risk if Tony Fernandes stays comitted. And he's the one making the decisions.

Anyway Swansea don't seem to be linked with a striker, surely they're not going to just go with Itay Shechter and Luke Moore for the rest of the season. Although £5.5m for Danny Graham seems a touch overpriced.

I reckon Pulis wants Butland for the publicity of having an England squad regular.

I think this week goes to show the fans want new signings regardless of who they are. A backup LB and a I doubt Gouffran is any better than Marveaux/Obertan.

Sissoko was excellent in the first half tbf, but was anonymous in the second before going off injured.

Sissoko-Cabaye-Tiote could be a MONSTER midfield.

I think on balance parachute payments are a good thing, as otherwise a solid well rub PL club (which doesn't have a wealthy backer) could be completely decimated, by one bad season leading to relegation. No one would want to see Bolton, Birmingham and Blackburn turn into a Portsmouth/Leeds style situation. And if they do go up the following years parachute payment is spread amongst the other clubs. And obviously looking at the table it shows that parachute payments don't equal success.

If parachute payments were pulled away, it is possible that their would maybe be 8 or so clubs who would be rich and then a massive gulf, where the likes of Norwich, Swansea and Wigan would have to tighten their budgets. And teams like Newcastle could probably be guaranteed a top ten spot.

But are those three names 'bigger' clubs in terms of regular financial income than such as Town and Charlton? Take the parachute payments and mad Indians out of the equation, and all five sides are in the 13,000-17,000 bracket in terms of attendance and will, therefore, have similar incomes assuming similar ticket prices, merchandising, etc - and you can even throw in TV money. Yet three are still spending £40m+ on wages a year, while the other two are sub-£10m. What the article does show is the massive disparity between sides who have just come down from the Premier League and those who have just gone up, even though there's no real difference in the 'size' of the clubs.

Birmingham, Bolton and Blackburn will be desperate to cut their wage bill if they don't go up though, and will probably be forced to sell their best players and high earners. And a lot of their wage bill will be tied up in average or bad players who they paid too much for and won't be able to shift.

Besides that article are using data from when Blackburn and Bolton are still in the Premier League. And according to that article Birmingham's wages increased from £38m to £45m a year after relegation. Which doesn't add up.

Birmingham sold (or lost), Roger Johnson, Scott Dann, Cameron Jerome, Ben Foster, Liam Ridgewell, Jean Beausajour, Michel, Lee Bowyer, Barry Ferguson, Craig Gardner, Sebastian Larsson, Martin Jiranek, Stuart Parnaby, Maik Taylor, Kevin Phillips, Alexsandr Hleb, Obafemi Martins, Matt Derbyshire and David Bentley. And Alex McLeish.

And signed, Guraine N'Daw, Pablo Ibanez, Boaz Myhill, Chris Wood, Wade Elliot, Chris Burke, Marlon King, Jonathon Spector, Adam Rooney, Steven Caldwell and Morgaro Gomis. And Chris Hughton. So a pretty drastic cut, which is still going on and a £34m 'profit' from these transfers, which is still going on, apparently they've cut the price for Butland to £3.5m.

If Bolton don't go up at the end of the season it is likely Mark Davies, C.Y. Lee and the likes will need to be sold, to keep the business going.

And if Bolton/Blackburn/Birmingham remain in this division for the next 5-10 years there wage bill will more than likely come into line with Huddersfield/Charlton/etc.

I have new least favourite thing. When people put on a stupid accent to say foreign words or place names. You can say Notre Dame without making yourself sound like a pretentious tit.
It's acceptable if you're in full flow speaking a different language, but when it's just one word or phrase, it's annoying as fuck.

This. I hate it when British commentators totally over-pronounce foreign football names.

http://blogs.examiner.co.uk/oneupfrontathuddersfieldtown/2013/01/the-cost-of-waging-war-on-the.html

An interesting analysis of the Championship's wage structuring. From a Town POV, but interesting nonetheless.

I'm not really sure what this article is trying to say? Bigger clubs spend more than little clubs seems to be the conclusion.

Bolton, Blackburn and Birmingham, will be burdened with the likes of Zigic on huge wages, who they can't get rid off, and is busing up funds needed to rebuild the team.
