I don't think I've had a result yet on FM15 were I've got lucky. To be honest that result was made all the more infuriating against Chelsea as Remy came on and scored twice in five minutes and then Chelsea did nothing for the remainder of the game. It happens in real life though, so can't complain to much. Sometimes you just don't get the result you deserve on the day.

The January transfer window has shut and as I said I would be using the money I had available to strengthen the squad. I was thinking of bringing in another defender, probably someone who could play right back and left back, but then my chief scout Jim Lawlor brought to my attention that Mario Gotze hadn't signed a new contract and his deal was expiring in June 2017. So a £44 million bid was accepted by Bayern Munich and the man who scored Germany's winner in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final is now a Manchester United player until at least June 2020.

http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x328/caoimhin89/Theatre%20of%20Dreams/Transfers_zpsvveydxe9.png

There was one more departure from Old Trafford and unfortunately it was Ander Herrera to make way really for Gotze. With hot prospects Nick Powell and Dennis Praet at the club along with Kevin Strootman, Ilkay Gundogan and Asier Illarramendi the former Athletic Bilbao and Zaragoza man wasn't going to get a lot of opportunities in the first team. In the end he's joined Serie A side Sampdoria for £12 million after less then two seasons at Old Trafford.

Didn't see that result coming at all.

Really thought Arsenal would win maybe 3-1 or 2-0 themselves.

Halfway through the 2015-2016 Premier League season and we've done reasonably well, especially at home, but once again we've leaked way to many goals compared to other sides in and around the top of the league. Heavy defeats against Crystal Palace and Southampton have set us back in recent weeks and we should have beaten Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford by a few. Personally I think winning the league is out of reach, but finishing second is certainly possible. We finished top of our Champions League group despite getting off to a sluggish start against FC Kobenhavn in Denmark and we'll face Juventus in the next round with the first leg being played in Italy.

In the Capital One Cup we've a mouth watering semi final against rivals Manchester City and should we beat them we'll either face QPR or Wigan in the final. Our FA Cup journey will begin against struggling Sky Bet Championship side Peterborough United at London Road in a game we should be winning comfortably.

There's been some January departures as well which has seen the club raise an additional £35 million. That means I'll have £51 million at my disposal during this January transfer window and I do intend to use it.

Surprisingly Nani wanted away, he'd achieved everything he could at the club so we sold him to Roma in a deal worth £9.25 million and Anders Lindegaard joined Everton for a small fee of £1.5 million. The biggest deal was for Eder Alvarez Balanta who joined PSG in a deal worth £25 million after just one season at Old Trafford. The Columbian, whilst he's got potential, has struggled to settle and we made a healthy £19 million profit from his sale.

Wow, a good signing But alot of wage for him

He's a world class midfielder and other teams were after him so I had to make sure we'd land him.

I think we're probably paying him about £20,000 more a week then probably necessary.

If you feel stuck, which I did in Brisbane from about January 2012 until June 2014 my advice would be to save up money as quick as you can and go travel for a year or two. I know it sounds silly but you really can "find yourself" when you're away travelling!! You'll find out who you are, what you enjoy, what you hate and probably figure out what and where you want to go in your life.

Honestly it must be the most frustrating thing in Football Manager.

It's made all the worse when it's against a big team away from home and a title rival.

Like look at this shite.... Clear cut chances, 6-1 in our favour and RVP and Rooney managed to fuck it up!!

WELCOME KEVIN STROOTMAN

http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x328/caoimhin89/Theatre%20of%20Dreams/Strootman_zpsyyrdiw2n.png

I did say in my previous post that I was chasing a world class midfielder and I've finally landed him.

We've invested a big chunk of money in Dutch international Kevin Strootman, an initial fee of £39 million, but the deal could eventually cost us almost £47 million if certain clauses are activated during the midfielders time at Old Trafford.

Strootman, 25, has signed a five year deal on £170,000 a week and will no doubt be a key player as we push for Premier League and Champions League glory going forward. We succeeded in landing the Dutch international despite offers from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG which is really pleasing and I'm delighted he's chosen to spend what should be his best years at Manchester United. Alongside Ilkay Gundogan and Asier Illarramendi he should strive and I honestly feel like we've got arguably the best midfield in the Premier League now.

I just thought he had some good points in that video is all.

...

Anyways... feeling a bit shit lately. I'm turning 25 this year and at the moment my life isn't quite what I'd thought it would be like growing up. I still live with my parents, should have finished my bachelor's degree one year ago - won't finish it until the end of 2015 minimum. Looking back it was a hasty and not a very wise move to begin on that program. I still haven't got around to take the driver's license, got £25.000 in student debt and about a month ago I fucked up with this girl I really thought I was going to marry one day. Oh, and I didn't mention that I haven't saved up a penny for me to get a loan from the bank to buy a place for myself one day (which will put me in even more debt too).

Life's a bitch, eh? Compared to all those billions living in poverty, hunger and any other struggles I'm not affected by as I'm living in one best countries in the world in terms of standard of living, I probably shouldn't complain... but in my situation in my environment it damn sucks.

See all that shit really doesn't matter in the end. What matters is if you're happy with life generally, what you're doing and where you're going. Like I'm 26 in September, still live at home with my parents, have no job currently and the longest I've had a job since July 2013 is about 5 months as I've either left because I didn't enjoy it or because it was contract work. Also throw in the fact broke up with the girlfriend of like 4 years and I won't be able to and it's been pretty shit in fairness. In saying that I'm completely happy because I've accepted that some of that was my own doing and some of it was just life!! My life is so different from what I wanted it to be when I was 21 starting my job at the bank, but hey ho that's life and you should use it grow from. Learn from your mistakes, if they're mistakes and all that jazz you know.

Great turn around there mate! Some big wins against teams close to you to. Good signings too I'm a fan of Praet

Good turn around Good signings for next season.

It truly was a remarkable run of form after the Arsenal game. To be fair we only had one really tough game away against City in that run, which we passed with flying colours, but still it's a very good run of form. I'm hoping we can start next season better so we can challenge for the Premier League title. Yeah I think Praet could become a top midfielder. I'm not sure he'll make the breakthrough here with Mata, Herrera, Illarramendi and Gundogan around.

It isn't really that big a concern tbh as Blind signed for 4 years, Di Maria for 5 years, Herrera for 4 years and Shaw for 4 years with an option for a further year. Even if one or two wanted to leave after next season the club would be in the favourable position, we'll only sell if we get the fee we want. The players are stuck for a large chunk of time unless a club is willing to pay what we want for them.

I highly doubt we've paid Southampton an upfront fee of £30 million. It's probably more something in the region of £15-£20 million up front with the rest in add ons. It's not a bad deal for us really given his age and ability. Those potential downsides to his transfer are the same with any transfer, Di Maria, Blind and Herrera could all want away within a season or two if we don't make the Champions League or start challenging for the league title.

Still don't think United have justified themselves this season, Van Gaal especially. He's spent around £200m, with £60m on one player and a £6m loan player whose on ridiculous wages. And in the end the most effective way of playing is a hoof to Fellaini. Gives Moyes that amount of spending power and he wouldn't be doing a lot worse.

It's not the best football, but I couldn't care much if we make the top 4 and we make improvements during the summer, by more of the shite leaving and better players arriving that suit whatever system Van Gaal wants to ultimately go with. What drives me up the wall is this illusion that we're playing well and doing well, we're not. We're just about doing enough to stay in the race for the top 4 and could easily between now and May finish 6th or 7th if we don't improve.

I'm not going to criticise Van Gaal for spending the money, he's bought a few good players like Herrera and Blind, although the former was previously a target, so maybe all the credit doesn't fall at Van Gaal's feet. Tbf Di Maria has shown glimpses, but he's struggling a bit with the physicality of the Premier League and Falcao was always going to be a gamble given he's returning from a major knee injury, but it's a gamble I'd have been willing to take had I been in his shoes.

1. We actually did create chances yesterday, for all the games where not creating has been a legitimate criticism yesterday was not one of them.

2. Their goal came from a huge deflection off basically the only shot they had in the entire second half.

3. We actually played well yesterday for the most part. I'm much more encouraged to see the manager admit that he got a good performance out of a team he's been reluctant to play rather than scrap everything and go back to the drawing board with a knee-jerk reaction just because we happened to lose.

1. Creating so many chances? We created about 3, possibly 4 at a stretch. You had the Herrera goal, which was well worked and well taken. Then you've the Rojo header and I guess you could call Van Persie wildly lashing the ball hopefully from the tightest of angles a chance. That's not a load of chances.

2. The only shot they had? You must have missed that part when De Gea saved our bollocks again when Shelvey played a ball from pretty much a carbon copy of the same spot he did in the first half for Ki. Plus we're not talking about Swansea having a little luck, he's talking about us hardly being able to improve apart from scoring goals, which is a bit of luck. I'm sorry, but that's the kind of comment that David Moyes would have been absolutely hung, drawn and quartered for.

3. We kept possession against a side that were more then happy to allow us to keep the ball until we crossed the half way line. Then they pressed and we didn't create any clear cut chances. Once behind we again resorted to getting the ball out wide and crossing it into Marouane Fellaini, which just isn't good enough at this level, most defences will easily deal with that.

It's all well and good keeping possession in games, but unless you use it to your advantage it's almost irrelevant. It's now late February and we're still talking about learning the system and getting use to it, all excuses really. It's starting to get frustrating and I personally don't see us improving all that much under Van Gaal. The football is still very much lacklustre and if we don't improve I can't see us finishing ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool, possibly even Southampton.

“I shall say to the players that it is very disappointing but, in the process of the development of our play, then it was a very good match,” the Dutchman added. “To play like this, so dominant, creating so many chances, you can hardly improve apart from scoring goals, but that is also a bit of luck."

If that was David Moyes people would be absolutely slaughtering him.

1. We didn't create many chances.
2. A bit of luck to score goals? Fuck sake!!

"Football, bloody hell." Those were the now famous words of Sir Alex Ferguson following his sides remarkable comeback in the 1999 Champions League final and they fittingly apply here. A 12 game winning streak has propelled us to fourth place and an all important spot in next seasons Champions League. During that 12 game run we scored an incredible 38 times and conceded only 13 times. The standout performer during those victories has to be Robin van Persie who scored 11 of his 16 Premier League goals during that time, a truly remarkable run of form.

http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x328/caoimhin89/Theatre%20of%20Dreams/Fixtures_zpsziehep3d.png

The board expects us to challenge for the Premier League title next season and if we're to close that gap on Chelsea at the top we'll need to tighten things up in defence. Only six teams had worse defensive records during the course of the season and three of them were relegated, which in my opinion says an awful lot. In truth the magnificent performances from Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Angel Di Maria, Adnan Januzaj, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling from February onwards helped us achieve our minimum target of Champions League football.

http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x328/caoimhin89/Theatre%20of%20Dreams/Table_zpsiaxyrb9a.png

Chelsea completed the treble as they beat Arsenal in Champions League final and Capital One Cup final. The FA Cup was won by Manchester City as they beat Leeds United. Sunderland, West Brom and Burnley were relegated and will be replaced by Sky Bet Championship winners Watford, runners up Nottingham Forest and playoff winners Wolves.

I've decided there will be a considerable amount of first team players departing Old Trafford this summer. The likes of Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez, Jesse Lingard, Tom Cleverley, Darren Fletcher and Marouane Fellaini will all be free to leave as I make room for new arrivals like promising young Belgian midfielder Dennis Praet and Spanish international Asier Illarramendi. The former joins us on a free transfer after his contract at Anderlecht expired and the latter left La Liga giants Real Madrid in a deal worth just £12 million.

I've my eyes on one more signing, a world class individual, but whether we can do a deal or not I'm not sure, but I'm quietly confident. So I'll keep you guys posted in regards to that, hopefully, just didn't want to come out and say I'm going to sign this world class midfielder and then end up with cake all over my face looking like an absolute clown.

We weren't though.

There's absolutely no point in having a truck load of possession if you do nothing with it. We don't look like we've the faintest idea about how we're going to break teams down. The plan just seems to be get it out wide and cross it into Fellaini to cause a defensive error or for a knock down. We didn't test Fabianski in the second half and didn't look likely to score after going behind.
