A Twist in the Tale

Remember how Cavaliers had hired their striker as a player-manager?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/HyOJlTKJZGWapfIFKqABhcDRbOBZnL2wuQmYxLRR.png

Yeah no - for some reason that arrangement fell through, so even as his history features nine stints as manager, I'm the one who actually got the job.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/x2mR3RvW8qgZjIVu0TkVPQO8kfmOuDA9u0ukqEOb.png
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavalier_FC

(Notice how their irl manager is Micheal Corleone... mild chuckle)

So yes, newly promoted Cavalier FC is our next stop in this career - having finished in the championship playoff only twice and relegated the same number of times so far, it is looking like a pretty bleak prospect.
Nevertheless, a good standard of youth recruitment should put us in good stead should I need to build for the longer term.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/NNVCE6dLxwCCEbRGilMAhbAxu39X27JZW6Zb9t2B.png

The squad (we're talking both senior and youth) severely lacks central and right midfielders of any calibre at all, so unless improvements are made to the squad I might have to become the devil I hate and play a 3-striker system.

Some Key Players:
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/EeQc2CEBQfvCvNJ1KJy2werNbfSwMuAIHvfXvpcp.png
Already a Bahamian international at 16, Devaughn Cencharles (jeez) is about as good a foundation that I could ask for.
Dodgy positioning will hopefully be improved upon, but other than that I should be expecting clean sheets galore.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/neHMIvR7mpD3rD92cQele0D3xOsNrP0lAq28iNAO.png
Sean Mareus is the Zia Zaman of Cavalier, left footed and just a bit lacking in a number of areas that prevent him from becoming a reliable defender.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/PUQgd7Xm5a7SSRrtr27ANhWJIPgXL2DoJPqLinL3.png
Herard Ambroise is one of 2 Hatians at the club, and his dominance in the air should give us a decisive advantage at setpieces.
Let's hope that it at least makes up for the lack of marking ability anyway.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/5MSKupItrOqkHYUBtX5bhv3T6Bnx29xZN9qm6aPb.png
Apparently I'll be expected to count on Dwayne Mareus for the goals.
I mean sure, there's precedent for a seemingly non-clinical striker doing bits anyway in the form of Joshewa McLean, but I'll be happy if he can bang in enough to keep us up.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/rgFg8YOq7ZMo5BymBteNP04MphcuIUHOrvIOjkv1.png
Pacy and creative, Dwayne Thompson Palmer is the true star of the team, but he'll most likely ply his trade in midfield given our lack of numbers there.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/13n3k3RhFB36TfBWbhUH40yRVDZaRtNycV2zXq99.png
"There's only one Ryan Christie"~
Christie's fine as a left winger, but I've got half a mind to convert him to LB since our current stock isn't all that quick anyway and I've got plenty of LWs already (so much so that I don't think Barnett will be joining me here).

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Dsh7uVWeaPHzW4dpIaBbmW09Q1sT8VvPigfs7w9a.png
A reliable backup GK who would've started under other ciscumstances, Valin Bodie can somehow play in midfield as well.
I know what you're thinking, and no I'm not going to.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/GN0pbYHeIJQEuFA9EigRoPuB3wh5DVsjwzZhggJ9.png
Lastly, Travis Godet is our only natural-ish CM in the squad.
He's also pretty competent technically, but at 33 he's not got much left in the tank.

8 game season?? 🤔🤔
Best you add some internacional flavour.

Yeah, real weird league season.
Seems to happen quite a bit in the lower-ranked nations as well, when they don't play a lot of games for one reason or another.

----------------------------------

Post-Season

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/17iWzqaZ6gZZIl6gnNVqqfyQmQq4dP0ceQKQOmgV.png

Well, since my last update the job list has increased significantly, and of course I ran out to apply for every job in the Bahamas, like the loyal bloke that I am.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/YSi3acvYgJpSNuO3nF2DpY80wz0CnaU4tei3KXyb.png

Only 1 club got back to me though:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/qHR6lH7ST1s4L2ExvqNvmAjj5WU6D80gHmkPqOul.png

And even then they decided to hire their own striker as player-manager instead.

However, with the new season starting, I decided to let the club have a fresh start:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xiM0frQX8Nh397OrSrrVBgzaXVm1THwTWor6Y6eE.png

Well I say that, it probably wasn't the best look for prospective employers for me to look for a new gig while in my current one.

End of Season 2025/26

NFCC

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/J9RYS7zSYnEbG5Eur9mbj97zDhj6DGECVyxtfr3A.png

I thought things were going smoothly enough when we dispatched NBP with some ease... Well that is after we completely crashed against Muslim FC; we definitely deserved to lose by more than the 3 we conceded, and to bring the deficit back to 1 was fortunate in itself.
So it was down to the last group game, and that was another mess - we'd scored 1st, went behind, went back in front AND got pegged back again before Shah put it to bed with the winner.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/aeD7E4SfyNaKEUBALnx9lz3zLjxZJxx9i2Axdnz9.png

So we top the group by the skin of our teeth - 3 teams finishing on 6 points meant head-to-head was moot, and our goals scored gave us the decisive advantage.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/8dPgNO73HPUQFEro9Gl5A1fJeLS5547lP1K4nQyE.png

Annoyed that we were pegged back immediately after scoring (against 10 men no less, it could've been one of them meme games), but otherwise a pretty comfortable performance.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/28tulnMQ33RVwtcrvgEdyP36Uwfc0N9CKAd9dOJX.png

Our most professional performance of the cup - scored 2 early on, then sat back and defended solidly, no trouble.
On to the final then, we finally went one further than last season:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/T99RInwTRMVFIGg2D7oy5YrOylBCcCw6ttQVkD3t.png

Did I mention how much I hate playing against 3 striker formations? ffs
We were very lucky to have gone in only 1 down at the break (their GK had serious problems with Shah's near post finishes), and in the 2nd half they continued to wreck havoc on our backline, even as we moved to a back 3 and front 3 of our own.
But yet again: cometh the hour, cometh the man - Moosa with 2 late goals to drag us kicking and screaming into penalties.
Thankfully Waris' missed mattered little as we successfully navigated that final minefield.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/HcHnogCdFnWJMQIMNAQLeHfZP1KozGCmOSHqXu6Q.png

This was a truly awful tournament for our defence to be honest, it's almost completely down to the heroics of Moosa and Shah that we even got this far.
That said, in the end we did get this far, and then some:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/bYYs4jz2a9CEs2nek9SZy7nMwJGsYj4gFgVGpXkI.png

GET IN, that's the Pakistani trophy sweep done - now for the AFC Cup:

https://i.imgur.com/afuFU4d.png

Surprisingly trouble-free given that we had to juggle these qualifying games alongside the NFCC, but like I said before they were easier propositions.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/TxgfxuPFe69eVmspZZ1CS3GJyPqOlh4o13slxg0y.png

Of our opponents I've only ever heard of New Radiant - they're a powerhouse in the Maldives, and our (Singaporean irl) clubs would play them regularly in the AFC Cup.
NEROCA are definitely the best side here though, being the only full-time team in the group and all.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/trPAi9tqQJh6fBEE8RircWs0XGo7EwcyB9yN8LAt.png

We started well enough, drawing with NEROCA on the eve of the cup final and subsequently winning our next 2 games to put us in a great position to qualify.
Unfortunately we weren't able to replicate our performance against Abahani a 2nd time, and NEROCA then finished us off at the 2nd time of asking.
At least we tore New Radiant a new one twice over, so there's that.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/78RuapxlfhVhBRPjp6tMBUOPYom8NwhLI0H0mYgK.png\

Not that it was enough, with only 1st place qualifying for the Interzone Semifinals (yeah I don't know how it works either).

Players of the Season

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9Wp4FYF3Z590y8qkBSMdQCqgaUqJzM5CwLYJa1og.jpghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/kbJdVxStS6WCtY425lgKufBMqX2k5X04mJgRC34i.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/RNp4paccJmPAdj5ZzKtJ8hOiNiKr0Go1nmIa1U8v.png
Sarwar Moosa is our well deserved player of the season.
Having started the season largely as a supersub as Waris and Aslam were preferred, Waris' injury towards the tail end of the league and our dual commitments in the cups gave Moosa an opportunity to start games. He took that opportunity with both hands, starting all the NFCC games, as well as the AFC Cup games once the domestic affairs concluded.
He showed a serious appetite for cup competitions, averaging a goal a game in the AFC Cup, and well over that ratio in the NFCC!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/i10f9zsRfoyaPk9rnv8Al1mh0ieHWfHGigpGreMv.jpg
Youthful exuberance is one of the best cheat codes around, no joke.
I should probably have started Shahid Shah in the league given his ability, but he more than made up for lost time with an incredible 18 goals in 12 games.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Rtf70w2Dk2dND65cbtb6jBpaXklNykopjGJKlr2j.jpg
Even at 34 and wasting away physically, Mohammed Uddin is still doing bits on the right flank.
7 assists each in the league and cups don't tell the full story, as it's his scarcely believable 74 key passes that makes him stand out.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/VEbrPKKqzHEyzCNW2gNsYR2Oyvtg1OeKnU9kHsgv.png
Asif Waris has retained the club's league top scorer gong, but with his injury at the end of the season his game time also went down.
Still he's a club icon who I'll expect to continue staying around for the next 2 years or so.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/BGRJda4U3lbwG6oco8TTCZfImcxaiCkdzKQH5Piu.png
Shame on the fans who doubted Ian Barnett, as he proved he could still wreck havoc down the left, even as his end product numbers don't show it.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/1bfgJqU2seOKeTveZHVFrDpHjRQjaADbCIlF8guI.png
I introduced Amir Rehman previously as someone who would be brought into the 1st team this season, and he has rewarded me with industrious performances.
He's also my penalty taker, though not by choice as our pool for that is quite dry - and he's missed a few himself.
Nevertheless, having good physicals put him in very good stead on our midfield.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/3lKzHzKEr6kSiWeMq7Mgn2503PuPgJjtdMgBzNga.png
This season has seen Tahir Aslam's gradual decline in favour of Shah and Moosa. Somehow still managed to score a fair few goals though, despite his awful profligacy at times.

We've also had a youth intake (if that matters at all by this point):

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UeWGH98vaFEs3fk256tMGPp2rN4qhSnV1SNJIgLV.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/f3ANUWVXMRrJv604QZype6av6XSVrXk7bAsTLdp7.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/KXtZp49fxCitBU3ih2z81nkI2j1hdqAmwUDEmyKf.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/n4mlUU6zg7M4wi6zni35slzcr49YAKfEs4vjmLrd.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Lwo2cVXz4SwTA6vOldlaZqJLLlwgPWAlfgvFOWTq.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/JBhHgYlDFwqUhYxj8lDaLYj9BrxbpNYmJmyFJcVq.png
Some exceptional talents in this intake, Abdul Imran and Jamil Aziz already starting material and headlining this batch.

We also had some news at our old hunting ground:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/SZXDgovVWDJCriLVP8ADVy2eQr0N25zMW4prvoVy.png

That is what you get when you release Ian Barnett.

----------------------

Alas, it's time for pastures new:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/CfqPCnnH2fgGji62IkMrZFgAdr6eSnWe1icKi2FT.png

It's pretty clear where the powers that be want me to go next:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/CfqPCnnH2fgGji62IkMrZFgAdr6eSnWe1icKi2FT.png

The Bahamian league is proper weird, with 4 games leading to a championship/relegation playoff of another 4 games, meaning an 8 game league season.
Weirder still is that the Cup starts in mid-February, which leaves a 3 month gap in the interim.

The Somalian team is a no go as they're heading into the penultimate game of the season and are in the relegation spots (albeit being effectively only 1 point away from midtable.
Northern Mariana looks like an interesting prospect as well, especially if it can fill the gaps in the Bahamian season.

End of League 2025/26

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/79ZOLJX1pCgIVcicfJ4GWOUx1TqC0XNx1UqsBrOr.png

The 2nd half of the season went about as good as one could ask for - 7 wins, 2 draws and a loss.
The WAPDA draw was incredibly annoying though - Waris finally scored at the death to secure the 3 points.... Only for us to concede even later, against their 10 men no less.
This meant that going into the final day, this was the title race:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/mMZYf3oUs7OHMoiE94Hk8B8Kq6k7pJeYAohqn5YI.png

Afghan FC were supposed to be in the race to the bitter end had they not let in a stoppage-time leveller against Pak Army no less, while a late penalty against the latter gave us the glimmer of hope of staying in it.
In the final day we were up against, you guessed it, Afghan FC who still had the possibility of overtaking us should they win the encounter.
Meanwhile Pak Army were to play against relegation-threatened Pak Police.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/u66acZH6LL2f5xcH7sQdtdOAVEBngRhm0RC9BxK0.png

Well that was our end of the deal settled, now it's up to Pak Police to fight for their own survival chances:
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/BsEJphPxsdPEkF4HPZFGVmA3LmoJgvDqmEBeXyEg.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/SCVYigukGcF0STgSQprffxithGEcfxFL4GivzmSl.png

Oh my days........ I mean I've cleared this competition so it doesn't sting as much, but it's still very much a pisstake this.

Awards:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/C3DV4R0KTdLfQ7NPlh1fVfVwoIPih2jHzbCX87Wv.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Z1BaZCCDS9aHUftvxrLKI9RLH0OWVLgcofUwcchO.png

Waris can look back at another dominant season, but he did sustain a twisted ankle that ruled him out for the run in, and at least the early stages of the cups.
Surprised that Aslam jumped on the top scorers' list too, considering the number of times I've been frustrated with his lack of clinical ability.

Speaking of the cups:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/VRqtVzxMUiLdtUhlsVV4C1bf4Ibrylsly9N4sPau.png

New Young look like the harder hurdle to clear being Sri Lankan Champions and all, but with either the Bhutanese or Nepalese representatives up ahead I think it could be an easier ride.
Who am I kidding, I have no idea how these guys rank against us.

It does provide another fixture conundrum though:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/VZsW1C8cOFd0Ny2xFWWOThWRzFbeIduHUtV0ShBv.png

I thought I was done with this after the league was finished.....

Midseason 2025/26

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/URK6kgDEiq1k3Sz1jQSedYhACd1cPxN8Siz7VMz4.png

Another unbeaten start to the season put us in good stead for a 2nd title challenge.
Ian Barnett didn't disappoint either, with an assist in his debut off the bench and a goal in his 1st start!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/1VL3QVnaiCmiftpsq9KZPug0yel5UOORdP2QOZ7q.png

There was such a good vibe that we decided to hold a testimonial for Asif Waris in the international break:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/vt83S2plPxfyyYuOGMRwmsdVAxqzl4cw4362ezpx.png

What followed were consecutive spanking by the land and naval forces (the Air Force was relegated 5 seasons ago if you have to know) and we were quickly usurped from our place at the top.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/i3dmBX02DspOTny6EfD8wCEed5qSMTUZ0q2quVLz.png

4 points off top is far from insurmountable, so fingers crossed we do claw back to the top or thereabouts.
Or not, if it means that we can emulate my final year at Latinos and win the NFCC despite blowing the league.

Preseason 2025/26

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/as2vmi8BW1h3RP8QWsjB9sZTDRXLANI7RuJM5ToF.png

I need to start remembering cutting down on early returns from holiday.... Playing 10+ friendlies is a genuine chore and a time sink.
But it was a good preseason, unbeaten and all, albeit having only played 2 top division sides so there's not much to be learnt.

I wasn't looking to sign anyone this time round either, instead using some of the youth players that have (been forcibly due to age) moved up from the U21s, so let's have a look at them:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/sbiGub0DMOmOAD4ifliv7RYmqQdM3wkYpXiQAN3d.png
Amir Rehman was signed last season, having been released from KESC, but still being in the Pakistani U23s.
His subpar passing dissuaded me from playing him in the 1st team with any sort of regularity, but now with his age and all it's either that or rotting on the sidelines.
Besides, that decent speed will help in midfield.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Ezf9tpZ6S0i2kZbsZ0Do3Sn6AcaboPMJeHssDule.png
Wali Ghafoor did rotate with Wassem Khan last season, so he's not really new on the scene.
He's not too bad, with a good work rate and speed on him, and he can whip a decent cross from time to time.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/zdKGAZhpu9a0Ze9gX3c2TaV1opyowtOizZHZrDrN.png
Saeed Ali... Not a fan, anyone who disagrees feel free to offer a rebuttal.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/DwvSxhnqQNpC8bLZevKmKW7H22TiUWkZqlZdcj89.png
Zafar Ali also played a few games last season, and he does have some of the tools to make a mark in midfield.
That Low Self-Belief though, reminds me way too much of me.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/z2miHfacDsVSZPiK7WCTREAfGJfc1fl0IZDVLQcW.png
Muhammad Anwar also rotated with Uddin on the right, and with Uddin's gradual loss of speed he'll continue to provide the alternative.
Physical player, not much mentally or technically - I think there are better players in the U21s, but I'll stick with the tried and tested for now.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/jhVwpPJhQMWlLCl7R4BhQZLoDhGRSRe2SZ8S3nJR.png
Noor Hussain is apparently "Beginning to get frustrated at a lack of opportunities in the first team" - bro, you should be lucky that you even have a team to train with.
Nonetheless, can't hurt to have an extra goalkeeper around.

Now I was about to leave this as it was, but I had to deal with some unfortunate happenings:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/OcnmsTjFngDoOisewf4C6lBMgjMpDRXPZmlDBDyS.png

Ali Ahmed I could do without, Amir Rehman can probably do a similar job around, but Wassem... ffs - so late in the transfer window too.
I tried looking for replacements, but for some reason not even players from relegated teams want to join the league champions.

So cometh the hour, cometh the man:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0VMiCPH8Pw8NMu19An30XcREjcSeUymrsfoG5vRu.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/C5EAf7JkN1nxIzTaDqX5VGIcvh5DDVVrpSuEqNO5.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/17pFZxxJYUrDgvNkiM5YmKPN31DrCjTjLNh4PfsT.png

It shouldn't come as a surprise to you that fans have been vocally unhappy about the signing.
But he was released from Latinos (shocker), I didn't want him to go the way of Abijah Lewis and Jessus Connolly and retire so soon, and I needed a replacement left winger - some things just fell in place really.
I have no idea if he'll come good, but if I'm able to eke out just a fraction of that spark he had at Latinos I'll be counting this as a win.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/v39ZjWhg3hkIeenvcgRzuXd6crjuyKCEK22lLuNz.png

Not that his signing inspired much confidence with the bookmakers though, lower midtable seems to be our area this time round.
Hope we'll prove them wrong though.

We also had the draw for the NFCC:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/2jU1uDNqmu1fivplhTUncPOQ6UTm8PmnkMOQw4Ua.png

Annoying draw tbh, all 3 are current or recently relegated sides - will be a tough one this time round.

What the fuck

Props man, you've done the Arsenal proud.

About that previous season though, how did you manage 36 clean sheets with a 2-star GK? And was Leno worse than him already?

Nice work getting that league title, now for the cup?

Smh, don't even remind me of that.
Oops, a bit of a spoiler that, well you'll see what happened I suppose...

-----------------------------------------

End of Season 2024/25

But first, the annual welcoming ritual:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/82Ox9xbsueakeef10XjyhXU1VoAoo1N42QwPn2nB.png

Our early season form gave me enough leverage to badger the board into improving the youth coaching and recruitment.
It seems to have paid tangible dividends from the off, a couple of very decent players coming up:
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nswEAeJS1xg5C4ylTWOTKUEz1fkqNZfHdwbnXWLR.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/gVoY6iQJnAxBGIGs5pg5uajgHWJsje8bK4hsxPpp.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7OCkMsSSOM9euNofXDaRlyhDw3lABkmC5vLYb9z9.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cxcypQyqFeopwjhwViAtOKhILY8PoeLcJpTGtKe1.png

As one Muhammad Khan leaves, another must take his place.
He's already rated as the best GK in the team; tbh after comparing him I can't objectively see how he's better than Jahangir - a goalkeeper that can at all handle the ball does count towards that I suppose.
Ahsanullah though, he will have to worry about his starting spot from now on, unfortunately.

Then we have a pair of somewhat talented strikers - Sajid Ibrahim can score goals but that terrible ball control will count against him, so it's Shahid Shah who will probably come through as the likelier future starter.
Sarwar Khan is the 3rd wheel of sorts in this bunch, but with finishing chops of his own I'll be a fool to dismiss his prospects.

And now for the Cup:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/brvRuAmwNLROkww6dWlIY5GrdSy13jtFpQO5EeNC.png

2 very decent wins put us in good stead for qualification to the knockouts, but after an absolutely appalling loss to Muslim FC we found ourselves in a hell of a pickle.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/oCN7nzvTrO78H73eQjeSkXUSa69qeppfW6baDsfP.png

Thankfully we managed to still finish in top spot by virtue of goal difference, though it's arguable if we deserved it tbh.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/azqlPe1AUspDFv8A9zarXzAu0a6Q98RbZV6joIW3.png

A quirk in the drawing system meant we had an immediate chance at revenge, but even then we couldn't achieve that in normal time.
Muslim bottled it on their own on penalties, I'm not taking credit.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/rnPu7gZY0P8YEHBmzKpOrT8aBpz4CTZw2c49Htua.png

What an absolute embarrassment.
Waris and Moosa (despite his fortuitous goal) were terrible up top, either missing chances or finding themselves offside the whole time.
The defence couldn't defend, and the midfield couldn't do their midfielding either.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/NfJbJDpMT6DFjTHlEpEXNrCZVhoHuvjMuWQrwc4D.png

Dropped the while starting XI for the 3rd-placed playoff, I wasn't going to let their personal cup campaign end in a positive.
To their credit the newcomer youths did well for themselves, vindicating my decision.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/OE5Gs2dcngoEAhbjaQPoEzUvQC8fpLCsSwHWge31.png

So disappointed to have a good season end on such a downer - I wouldn't be surprised if this happens again going forward, such is the nature of a season-ending cup competition.

Players of the Season

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/W7REiEl22a1FTD8rbm6N0indC3EfHiPs9GULRQZ4.png

Our player of the season at a canter, Asif Waris took the goalscoring mantle from Aslam (bless his heart, man tore his knee ligaments) and ran all the way with it.
19 goals and 6 assists in 19 starts is startling form no matter how you spin it - .... that said, you'll also notice that he failed to score a single goal in the cup.
I mean fair dos for carrying us to the league, but my days that fall off in form is hard to swallow to say the least.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/fQX6RNoxaEsVYMqnct4ewGPwZxIrlS5IpOyC4bkH.png

Ok, so maybe I was wrong about Waseem Khan - he is one of our better performers all things considered.
He didn't start as many games as he probably should have as he didn't fit the left-sided inside forward role that I rocked with my wide 4-3-3, but as we reverted to a flat 4-4-2 his quality shone through.
Quite how it manages to shine through though, I still can't understand - lopsided technique, poor reading of the game, how do you do well with those?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/jyNf5EsHzOm2QKpZqghbWkDXipI3brTK7QzFsZvT.png

On the opposite flank, Uddin was also doing his fair share of wing work, though not quite to the volumes that his 14 in crossing would have you believe.
Unfortunately he's also losing his pace in double quick time, so this next season will be one of reckoning, of whether his game can be adapted to suit his new weaknesses.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Go3P3CFxmzGNAKOSzKgH8kpRpAW0E4sxKoO1wEu7.png

Time is on Sarwar Moosa's side, but like Waris he had his patches of inexplicable ruts.
Still, with paired with Waris up top the defenders could just pump the ball right up to them and there'd be a reasonable chance created - thank goodness for his speed.

Alright, let's end this season on a high note shall we?
Despite the definitely depressing end, we'd hit the minimum of a semifinal appearance in the cup, and coupled with our league success gave me yet more leverage to ask for new toys:

End of League Season 2024/25

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/GNkpp9WKAiaSWpx6QTKKOd1JVxbk5Bvb3NUOOOKa.png

The 2nd half of the season left off from the 1st, with us continuing our unbeaten streak.... Until we completely blew it against KRL.
We rebounded immediately with a late, late win over closest title rivals Pak Army, before storming to victory over Pak Railways.

At this point we were a point away from the title, and as is tradition I was prompted to hold a team meeting:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QwklKeDpmAfBSpm5G4LTHzObjdrMTW39qJlPxilL.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/65Xdk31n3a60iNd2CGtpYvGNrO3LN0tlixt0bcuF.png

Yeah I need to stop giving these, ffs.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Aiu0lfjTZsXNgq8ux5rmlecqbRCyB3ijwGbVAnN9.png

Of course the team crumbled under the pressure.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ygR73Vt5rGkLGrEI1m3ghgJPzhDoD7j4MqFV2BO3.png

No matter though, Pak Army had to win all their games and better our goal difference to beat us to the title - they didn't, so that's the Pakistani league title at the first time of asking.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cV9MYzLSCuRDtP9VkEkAqgQD5FOD7Eoh1Nf6Bwwg.png

Finished off with a win and a draw.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nZyGw8VRX8GwKKPZCsZhIr5BxmUdSppKwmEHVvaH.png

And apologies to HBL, who were relegated on the final day after we beat them.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/gRIeikujOOz352bpuEFhqeTmh0QpA3mBMzMyjbYt.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/z1qh1eqIAgoEIUJ5yoSXUooSRvPy82xuIxj2TNSJ.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Ar31yz2GSckhNo7gCZS7lxXOgNlJmLlQfr2kIukS.png

Waris is a shoo-in for the Team of the Season no doubt, though I am surprised at Khan's and Uddin's selections - they didn't exactly light up the league, and Khan only started half the games at that.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ymaGTM93qm5HJPeeechR4E81NOc4qWJx1EMZtd9f.png

Personal accolades are nice, I mean I wouldn't refuse them you know.

But enough of the waffling, we've got another tournament to get into:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nITSF5vBiLZLXtJYZlEz2T1P6SEtDy2GGKIQ2pwf.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/JANdxVKfUBNq9Nj7Ry3LmgUWhUkWQ4Fkl5JBk7Dy.png

So the National Football Challenge Cup starts in February as mentioned, and will be over and done with by the end of the month.
I'm expected to reach the semis at least, but the title win should be a good omen for this tourney - if we don't choke the way we nearly did in the league that is.

--------------------------

No transfers in in the January window (Literally no point in signing anyone given that deadline day is on the eve of the final matchday.

However:

'Midseason' 2024/25

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/OHpYUxf7fyk4FiGik3yJRpUOYFpqKVFMcwTvvnJE.png

Well, 2 months in an things are looking pretty promising - the regular squad rotation has been working well (bar a few occasions where U21 games were played way too close to 1st team matchdays and I failed at squad management).
It also turned out that it wasn't so much our strikers' profligacy than it was my inability to provide a presence up top. Thankfully our defence held firm for the most part, with 6 clean sheets in 11 - the fans still hate Ahsanullah though, imagine hating a guy who's kept a clean sheet in over 50% of his games.
Admittedly we've been mad lucky to have won so many games - you'll notice a stoppage time winner and a late penalty in just 2 of our last 3 games, which made for some bum squeaking.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/dIuIejrHA446fi6wR3apkAIGepq2zNY3ANLlniWF.png

Nevertheless, and unbeaten run's still an unbeaten run no matter how you square it, and with it we find ourselves at the top of the table with half the season gone.
Do I expect to win the title? No, but I reckon that with better squad management than the rest of the league (we've finished with ~5% better fitness than our opponents on quite a few occasions already) that alone will give us a decent shot at it

So with an unbeaten start and being at the top of the table we've got something good brewing here, but there are still issues:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/tg19mcAZ2Zax9pmecOJMGnGr2qtXWs4MbktWhTbj.png

Which led to this:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xrQX7QmUfEh0uF8SenLJhKNH32ao5LCHIEwN4YJe.png

All of them are key players and internationals, so they're clearly not impressed with me who hasn't exactly made himself known thus far.
I was expecting them to give me a bit more respect though, given our great start and all, but alas it hasn't turned out that way.

Tonga to the Cayman Islands to Pakistan - love that!
Good luck!

It's pretty odd if you think about it, but hey that's the power of FM eh.

--------------------------------------------------------

Introduction/Preseason 2024/25

I've finally gone through the squad, and with a couple of additions, this is it going into the new season:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/5UzaAKhM15S37EiiHnCCP3fmoN1dHnSiVQdV50p7.png

Goalkeepers
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Gxtuqg0n5NFGFtxXsrrxZbmFLpRfd083TRpEdws1.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/GILK89ze4XWdpjhnuRpBgw9NdNVEdYDbmXewP2zK.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/jWL4KDPRdTJ2OuzUvNzB5XX8REUb9lozb9n7roT2.png
The fans were pretty opposed to my signing of Ahsanullah as they don't think he's good enough - well guess what, what we have in house are worse.
Jahangir has potential but is pretty raw, Muhammed Khan is straight up trash, and without a deep knowledge of Pakistani football I scrambled for the best goalkeeper available.
Ahsnullah has played for the club before, so at least there's an element of familiarity if nothing else (probably nothing else).

Defenders
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/5wrBIwhbSNLbxLcLB4UxSBjuVK71fJhTyKy44ITD.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wx0QxiVrnkTjsaslsK6MaoRmUywTxnWIowt3FYDE.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wuevejwQmZt4IrJU7wV098aQC6bxGCU1uJEvcABj.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cgzypCYPwHKGzjJ87Cc0odgXsQzA5yh6GiGZjBft.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/4kjNtIHxkZcW7nNsYp2fKoYPq0nJh2qSau2pcPwZ.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/FiIwBvNlZ6QIMVHqtUCxmtwfQ2N6x3EREPhhTiw6.png
Really, really like our defence - a number of experienced current and former internationals, as well as a couple of up-and-comers.
Only addition here was Habib, as competition and backup to Ramzan, probably the league's best RB.

Midfielders
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/RStmdWdtZZydr57DSgyc5JRTce6fNz3ii0q6oZ2C.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QIfHrQq5bMoq1cwWsxnaMmJG7oS28IrsPHkMbb2j.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/IhXxWaf6oZb59lJJyKs2qwt0B3jqhHgu62KQqFST.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/U6zSvR6co28yKmlwJ5QMis3BxNJAxqDZVKHCESan.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/6PZtzheNam6K1x6DbiFFM27JNrDcLvU8V0z1Msqs.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/BidrA9yp6KQ3xBkhXKvh6WHdbRaBLpjSKHeYMqLt.png
A couple of very accomplished passers in the form of Rashid and Adbul Khan. I like Ali Ahmed as well, those runs into the box can hopefully lead to a Lampard-esque impact
Uddin is a master crosser, hope that'll cover for his relative and diminishing pace, and cure my crutch of needing pacy wingers to make things work.
I like Hussain already - a DM who can tackle, is positionally sound and knows to stay back? Sign me up; can't say the same for Waseem Khan though, don't get his game apart from his speed and great first touch.

Strikers
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/EBGiBTOSlTsRpyNVWvssExLisUzWPBvWtyakLDB4.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Gv25uyFU0mXIx9w6Qj3bFG8fprcEPWHfeYp2e3g9.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Qk1s2AjBnGqsZLsbL0ChulZkLy1K4rOSmqbOFa7r.png
All perfectly capable strikers and internationals, but if preseason was of any indicator they're all pretty profligate.
Aslam is tipped to be among the top scorers this season and topped the charts last time round though, so I'm pretty optimistic that things will come good once the league proper starts.

Preseason

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/RM0GxMo0RdbclDCID0u8GvG1f8azxmz2ofpLIQIk.png

Most of preseason was spent playing nonleague sides - only League team was KRL, and that was a tense 0-0.
There are still significant teething problems, not least that the squad still doesn't back me as their gaffer.

On to the league though - what can we expect?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ovSBURhYffhKtDDyKDsYXoXWOLGBagytojANZuQS.png

Well, despite playing 4 fewer games than in the Caymans, the September-February scheduling means we'll endure last season's fixture pileup, but for almost every week, and definitely every season.
Plenty, plenty of squad rotation then.
We've got the National Football Challenge Cup after the conclusion of the season, played out in its entirely in February.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xyAsVUCrmBUJzH2afVGsKG0WAyCk7mlghvzsZReK.png

We're tipped to finish somewhere in midtable, some distance away from relegation, so that's a base I can then work on.

Pastures New

So I applied for a couple other teams, but only one got to me first:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wH8O5ZLRpAGkQdJdi0fuIkoZRYQ4cFXyEwiXKhQO.png

Well he asked that I withdraw my other applications, so yeah turns out they're the only who would get back to me.

One thing led to another...

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QH1txkmF2konlDxisrvyoAhABVFvBO0aj3Q9DPVX.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/RlHsJRKplS0iKRXtW07qMZ15pWG4FBrRuMsKRwhR.png

And boom, I'm now at....... Googles

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KPT_F.C.

Hmm.... Can't say I know anything about them, but I didn't know anything about Latinos and Navutoka either, and that didn't stop me doing bits at both clubs.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/rzndgCYts46ewgw0ISMyquzhi9ntewybUtQwETnR.png

So a club with some success, but with a lack of coaching staff I'll need to have a more thorough look to figure out what I've gotten myself into.

Season Review 2023/24

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/PyghUH8DQVvIYHK4Sm2eeop4hOki6hKbABtaB6iL.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/npDJRJ3Aq1ZYvC0bhcMdB8SAQMsvtT0fOoRyyVeK.png

I think we had a few nominees for the Match of the Season, but they definitely had that low point nailed - that'll take some getting over.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/WqgibuJ43DXMdpGdExP8liFfmLB9Owa8eXIxXt2f.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/mzVjLMpmz9f5hW1CUaHj2uIw73WZl1DYSYDnLyxl.png

Ian Barnett dominated Awards Night yet again, cementing his legend status at the club.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/3pvfq0s7N7F6Yztl29CDDIMw1M2htrM1vs4mHq9T.png

It shouldn't come as a surprise that basically no one watches football in the Caymans; I am surprised that we've become the most-watched though.

Players of the Season

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/TQshTwBeYMPNEwmxG8EJhWqZIOfIlvIUpkPdIoRa.png
Leighton McLean finally found his calling as a playmaker this season, distributing the ball excellently and chipping in with a couple of goals as well.
Not the best player around, but as we've seen with Barnett it's far more about understanding and fitting into the system than anything else.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/VhXL9nsRgEj2H2RzIEbuJ9J6gUitsULmSedNoWb6.png
Ally Mebrahtu started like a bat out of hell with 7 goals in 4 games, as opponents were most likely distracted by the fact that an Eritrean was playing football halfway round the world.
That novelty started to wear off though, as the goals started to dry up. Fortunately we had reinforcements by then and he was able to be stepped aside for more clinical strikers.
Not that he wasn't clinical himself - there was a point in time where any pass to him could reasonably lead to a goal.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0oPbLQj56Z4gXCmhwOaUoEvL3zldXRtUF0Tb0dEc.png
Demion Wilson was the opposite of Barnett and McLean really - using his sheer ability to overcome his lack of suitability in the team. Or was it the other way round?
I really don't care any more, I'd about to leave and I don't have to deal with his patchy form ever again.

Ok I shouldn't shit on him given that this is a PoTY honour roll, so I give him credit where it's due - 4 goals in 4 in the FA Cup, dispatching of his former teams with surprising frequency, he's done well.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0kW9aV9g5tM4jkJrE3FgRy0MlRuHxgyvDauVuHdg.png
The other half of our winger corps, Neville Moxam went from strength to strength this year with 3 goals and 10 assists.
The upgrades made to youth recruitment means he'll likely be replaced soon, but for now it's his to keep, with Jessus Connolly as a willing Captain and deputy.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ftnkWgYFP5dJePIGCQ7oDLcxAM836206YXC0B9iu.png

Those 4 are the highlights of this season, but given the sheer amount of games we played there needs to be at least a word o two for the rest of the squad:
-Nicholas Ebanks did pretty well for himself and showed the fans who disapproved of his signing that he still had a lot left in the tank.
-Shakur Welcome broke the seasonal clean sheet record with 13.
-Theron Cupid continued his towering presence at both ends of the box with occasional lapses of defending, and
-Raheem Solomon and Thomas Rivers-Elliot combined for 15 goals and 5 assists in just 16 appearances - if they continue to stay at the club they'll be a league-best strike pair.

-----------------------------

So there we are:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/mzqZdApE2EeqrcmmESFL0rfrP7105RdsniAXjnsO.png

Regardless of the board's willingness to up the youth coaching budget (they could up the youth recruitment but not this? Odd hill to die on), I was never going to stay anyway - time to move on.

End of Season 2023/24

We're going to go about this chronologically - you'll see why:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/O5c7BezqwN4CJnuhKuHZP0Ig5R3GP8BISW5ltcfh.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/dNBpQnjXIkulU9KvIiSEDwV0Hr0yy2XwIs4569WZ.png
Much like the OFC Champions League campaign many moons ago, our largely unheralded team tore up the form book and finished top of its group with some ease.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/h2nEP4SgM2GIOYbAgdaFBxJnsREST0wNx4QPP0yD.png

However, unlike that tourney we'd have to deal with a final group stage before we could catch sight of a knockout round, in this case the semifinals.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/TeRgfBesHNLzd7mDcUcvG4SneDF5YCkZ56rkrer6.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/63SXhjmHqi2pLuaG4dFbxhKwRoovdUgOXj0ueGdf.png

Not that we got there anyway - we started perfectly beating the Surinamese champions, but W Connection was just a bridge too far - despite missing half their starting XI to international duty, the champions of a country which has actually gone to the World Cup wasn't ever going to lose this.
Our run ended on a damp squib, a dead draw against Santiago de Cuba.

Unfortunately this fairytale run had its consequences - we only played 1 game earlier in February, and with our March completely packed we had only around 2 months to finish 11 league games - you see that wasn't to be the case either.
But before that suicide run we welcomed yet another youth intake - normally I'd rant about how this "Golden Generation" was bullshit, but things were to be different this time round:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nT4zPu8GDh0HyNuDy422BP0Sz496wF0TNiRAJpQ6.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/3hh9S0tUpW3xpfwhzOsQWDbzxwz4FiM9x1UI1vdE.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0XhqcfpU08IOVms06x9mBaRbRN5RNY2FCvj0OaSs.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7mUbeErVhULmFZj7bzabKw6rUhrVCCWz5VzhAlDY.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ea78tIG1YAZByjwFXbrtCUtR7Hz7xyMNnOYH6kEf.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/aWbMWhrIVNoT56b3OM7W6mtdOGhPnR5dCDc6vM4w.png
2 of the club's league's best strikers, a replacement/upgrade on Matthew McLaughlin, and a half-decent LB all straight out of the blocks - badgering the board to boost youth recruitment finally paid off, and not a moment too soon.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ypP3svt6RxszOGCGl6MwBbv3FrQajrBIiRVZwxkM.png

With literally 3 games a week every other week, we basically fielded 2 sets of starting XIs in alternate games - the youths were thrown straight in against Tigers to great effect.
It worked well for the most part (our strikers had to hard carry our defensive howlers at times) but we still weren't able to get one over our bogey teams for the season, Elite and Sunset.
As a result, going into the penultimate match of the season against Scholars we found ourselves still 2 points behind them, but with our fates realistically within our grasp - beat them, and go top going into the final day; draw, and we'd have to hope for a miracle:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/eVDry4HwIPLkrq2wKZHdfXaa8LgeQg2lGQy88Yx5.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/sQOpYiG96MstCzPpTVLqPRit79iZEOaKprQJ67Zf.png

Nicholas you apocalyptic idiot.

If you care to know, in our final game we beat Cayman Athletic 1-0, which in the league's infinite wisdom was played on the 2nd of June.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/GqH2fKs9QUnkeAciFEL9enp39FGiUlEVB5LmMtMr.png

Finishing a point off last season's title-winning total, we definitely gave it a hell of a shot considering how ridiculous the scheduling was stacked against us.
But to blow it all in that few minutes... My days was that a fucking bottlejob.

But at least I'd won that already, now we had to turn our attention to the only trophy I hadn't lifted yet:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wr8Gfa4GAW6oyjZYoMxbyddTf43RTrAX3Fqo8fmw.png

Demion Wilson turned it up against his previous club, a struggling George Town side who of course finished bottom.
(Funnily enough they would then turn to my U18s Assman for their next manager, a 19-year old Model Citizen who turned to coaching after his youth career fell through at Sunset.)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cIgIp7xMbfGdXXT6VZQ9ahcsW4o05uHvyPjpmdHg.png

Like I said, Tigers aren't the whooping boys of seasons past - they had a great passing game now and were here to play.
Wilson had a poor game, and it was left to Encuma Ebanks-Cupid to save our skin this time round.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/poM8OA3Y69fYQtcSYCEBBfgdBUeORU1MVycE8iNS.png

Right, note to self: Only play Wilson against his former clubs.
He started the scoring and we never looked back.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/g6vs01VN6T4kGKlEdAQ24VH0RP5f3QP75wGYdbV5.png

Man I wished I took my earlier advice - Wilson was offcolour yet again, and if not for Solomon we'd be talking about yet another season here again.
But eventually it was left to our newcomers to finish the job for us.

GET IN! Finally a sweep of the Caymans.

Not gonna lie, this cup run has been easier than most - we were always going to blow teams away with our sheer firepower, but our own mentality issues nearly cost us.

Just caught up with this. Great to see you finally got that league title.

Cheers bro, yeah it's been a long time coming.

-------------------------------------

January 2024

I'd usually wait till the end of the season to post a season roundup, but enough's happened this January to warrant its own post.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/PBiOysSzjJNLiezVIxMkciz9sjq7cnA40Ye8GF6J.png

A pretty rough start to the year, especially in our title-chasing context - our only good win was against a Cayman Athletic side who sacked their manager only weeks later.
We don't look comfortable with our formation and I suspect opponents have found us out unfortunately.

Would the President's Cup provide some respite?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nvKznnHNiizIWuQsat7K6AtkK6hl3G3qSWhSP5dS.png

Well we did beat Roma in our double header, but followed that up with a second ineffectual performance against Sunset, losing by one more goal than in our league encounter.

By the way, the Sunset beatdown wasn't over yet:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/NMuwTxyTSZjGzvIbzXpuca4uChpMZxEZKpoAL9pB.png
https://media.giphy.com/media/H41bHeiTdZVpPAUfUH/giphy.gif

That's it, I hate the non-contract system.
What was he thinking anyway? Moving from a title-winning team where he's the all-time top goal scorer and a team that's built around him, to some midtable team?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/FFSmdZviwAOm796y3WY2gNJSCJw4CZy2qmQGaOgy.png

Oh.
For context, he was paid $70 p/w, he asked for $70 when I offered him a new deal as a response to Sunset's approach, and our highest-paid player is Demion Wilson with only $240.
I can't even play my players $400!

So in conclusion: Fair dos to McLean for getting that money, and Sunset are like that junkie who's managed to beat you to a pulp while yo were balling in the real world - unbeknownst to you he's also filthy rich and has stolen your girl with that green.

On a more serious note, Sunset now have a front 3 featuring McLean (who's already scored 2 in 2) and David Robinson - I think they'll win the title next season, and I hope to fuck that I'm not here to suffer them by then.

He wasn't our only departure this window:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/EDW6fuvkFryBJEUZVfjJRc9l7MlVpOKtb0oN2KLv.png

McLaughlin's was completely my fault - I had neglected his game time in favour of milking Ian Barnett's excellent form dry, he made his unhappiness known, then left when Bodden came knocking.
Lo and behold Barnett's form has tailed off in recent weeks no less.
Roach-Ruiz though, he can leave - I had been trying to bank on his good determination and work rate to make up for his defensive inadequacies, but nope he's still useless.

I decided to sign a replacement for Roach-Ruiz only:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/vlXMpUfdYrBMCSk8r5rP1W6yDAmMafaTYs2XY8UP.png

Jedd Wood's pretty poor himself, but with decent speed and our lack of time meant he'll have to do.

Let's have some positive news to end this update off:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/LTFMdLY8GuMzXBEhj9HSd2fYN9T5942cGrIQMHXn.png

I have no idea how good or bad these teams are, but they're all domestic champions so they much have something to them.
Lyford City are the only club to have contracted players, but their league season literally only has 8 games in it so that's basically 0 match experience for them.
If I were to hazard a guess Golden Lion would probably be the likely group winners - Martinquais teams aren't half bad from my previous experience.
Oh and only group winners move on to the 2nd group stage, so that's fun eh.

Midseason 2023/24

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/x1vgYm4pRdpniXiMDPNk520zQwc1Z2wQPjT2f5QT.png

Let me introduce you to one Ally Mebrahtu - I was taking a gander at the Eritrean U19s, saw him as a free agent and decided to put in a cheeky trial offer.
He accepted, came in and showed potential, and was subsequently signed - though tbh it was more for the novelty of having a foreign player at the club than any real conviction that he'll come good.

Well consider me proven wrong, as he scored 7(!) in his 1st 4 games - he didn't offer too much with his general play, but give him a good cross and he'll score.

As for our performances, well we did one over Scholars (finally) and Bodden, but Elite avenged their Community Shield.
It'dve been a pretty buzzing start to the season had we not been shocked by Sunset - awful performance from us on the day.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/8lTCpbtf4ILrEfXslwMnU6aAqKb5Uh3zVqgUjd8Y.png

As a result we find ourselves 2nd, albeit with a game in hand.
You'll also notice that Tigers have torn up the form book this time around, and they aren't playing - their passing combinations against us led to their penalty goal, and I resorted to playing with a deep block to counter them - serious contenders this season if Bodden or Elite don't recover in time.
Enough about them though - having 17 games for the rest of the season will be a problem though, with a continental competition to add to our domestic double header.

Speaking of which:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/TRbk4n6LSBI2ZitvvNQovb57fUF4COVJeak1La9g.png

Easy on the surface, but we play them in the league 3 days before the cup tie, and you know how them back to back games can complicate matters.

Preseason 2023/24

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Z6Dz2YT8qOdJZLvwAs1Z9FhtrMk3ebwOIn2Ja13a.png

Preseason went well enough - a bit of complacency on our part, but we did turn up against the Big 2 of Bodden and Elite.
Still failing to beat Scholars is a bit of an annoyance though.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/sHScb57rN7VqIHiLF1vfa0x2UTIWmCV4IDT9Je6W.png

Underpromise and overdeliver, always live on that mantra lads.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ixEhEh6FrcWYo3QGgBWjW5qnA8HVC2o3EtUyQ4Ol.png

Also, it turns out that I've been a bit of a dolt with my bonuses - since our guys are all on non-contracts and I can't even pay transfer fees (well not for anyone who's even remotely interested in joining) I should've maxed them out to give the players a bit of motivation year-on-year.
Oh well, better late than never.

Made a couple signings as well:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Q9EEc0A8GeVGrpEhD1qukcdBYsdLa35Zfj8CxgOT.png
Danner Webb was released from North Side, but at 17 he's clearly got more to offer especially since he's already not half bad at tackling.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/DKDYdh7AttTz1kaWsfXjqsaAa9i0jjUB007eDDUh.png
Jamaal Bennett was transfer listed at the same club (somehow - apparently you can list non-contract players?) and I took the opportunity to welcome him to ours.
He could well be our setpiece cheat code if he develops the rest of his game to a respectable level, but there's time yet.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7qoaboWC0KXOZsiTXG3nosXn6uQi9KRQfecXIzyv.png
I've gone through something like 4 or 5 RBs at Latinos, all youth players who never made that jump in development that would ensure their place for the next decade or so.
So I went for another free agent in Nicholas Ebanks, who spent 11 seasons at George Town before leaving for Tigers, where he only played 4 terrible games (6.28 rating, yikes).
Still, terrible as he was at Tigers (and he was fighting a losing war trying to haul that lot up from the bottom) he's come in as our best RB, which says more about our quality obviously.

We also had the small matter of a Community Shield to contend with:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/IlChdw4l7d4YEy4WQ2PScPm1ylM5zFcxXOreGEoI.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wtKb6TabmGQMIoIhp6dBeP1sCmikNuVZLl7D7Smd.png

As comfortable a win as they come (after the 1st dismissal), we'll probably not have an easier game to win a title.
But at what cost?

https://i.imgur.com/aMpiZ9p.png

Wilson also did his groin and would be out for a week or so, but this was bad - McFarlane that dirty twat

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/jQdPgazFwCNyM5ztm89NVGmmd1YxgHz99jtjVDif.png

Now normally I'd disagree with this seeing as we're defending champions, but McLean's injury really did one on our title aspirations - I just hope he'll be back on form for our FA Cup and CFU Club Championship runs.

End of Season 022/23

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/XKHZ22jL3Yi1Sdvy4wK8GeKYSMV6LE3MP4wi0qsq.png

Our straight wins the year before continued when the league resumed, leading to a stonking run of 9 straight wins. Elite inevitably had to tear us a new one and stopped out run, but we came back with another landmark win against Bodden town to kickstart another unbeaten run.
We didn't play to anywhere near the swagger we had in that winning run though, probably because we were beginning to crack under the pressure of a title challenge.
Nevertheless, despite Elite and Bodden breathing down our necks (not to mention my own misguided attempt to gee the team up for the run in, which damn near broke team spirit)...

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/difw2PmXrQ870vnEU00t7x3pbMyfzMZjbAUuoKdg.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/scmDx1xte424Z9PViGjgo3x7yWzqqtjU33kHbdr2.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/PBTGwcVuVq8J9zRKEkUjnWQSIDJoVLkBYCg3w56r.png

GET IN, Champions of the Caymans!
5 years of faffing about and we've finally bore the fruits of our labour.

----------------------

We've got the real crown jewel out of the way now, but what about our cup aspirations?

President's Cup:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9gLNgvMvwImS3QXm418xmfW2bLHJNMTwjX2fIjSh.png

Mental game this - we'd already gone with a cup squad bar McLean, so there was half an expectation that Bodden would put us away.
To our immense credit though, we kept toe-to-toe with them and with better luck could've finished them off in normal time.
In the end it was penalties which saw them break mentally and us go through.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/GceGSlXUKkMJnOaJ37KD6MZlbQgcTv49jgBFGJM3.png

Ohhhh I hate Dwayne Solomon so much, he's so bloody good.
Fortunately we eventually pulled through - this would prove to be our only win against them this season.

https://i.imgur.com/aapxkX1.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/m2V8KmK5g6dZS4t5dEygpjOl9EWunDnrPaqL62zk.png

I'll have to hold my hands up and take the blame for this, but lesson learned - the way to play against a flat 4-5-1 is not a 4-3-3 Wide, you go 2 up top and go at them instead.
We did learn this lesson, beating them in the league a couple days after.

So that's the President's Cup, what about the Cup I actually need to win?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9kfczFuFz6NxtLmssYNpuA8TtHoghxMDsThxIR8Y.png

Turns out North Side have two great strikers, bollocks.
I was mulling over signing either Demion Wilson or Ebanks at the start of the season no less, how'd I like them apples eh.
At least it'll ensure that I stay for 1 more season, to have a taste of the Carribean Club Championship and another shot of this accursed tournament.

Season Review

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7HjKZ80PwPaoxtnxpuUjAcTVVY9WY5jr9PPpITwW.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/2loVCSCzN2Y3I9un3iWE5qDIunQoGGXqiBOya3hK.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/NWVVJrgTlbj4TvsT7Qo1ubmkYsiEj9H34Y6ICnBz.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/i8XAZg4wj9c1VSA7F6y1CjNRBxzohJzhtDawIC9G.png

A storming season in general, and now I find myself with only 1 more title to win before I leave for pastures new.

Players of the Season

Joshewa McLean
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9K0sd0s0ff4LPbBR6DeprYU44N7hmyjHnGtGlF3h.png
This is the season that he's finally come into his own - an absolute bulldozer up top with both pace and strength, which makes up for his poor technical ability.
Not that you could tell though, so many great strikes over the season.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Z4V1pt7SYpvVKMOe7H7GhugwaNTqY8HOSAV7sRZV.png

It's actually quite annoying that he failed to score in the final 2 games of the season having secured the title - he had a chance to break the league's seasonal goalscoring record with just 1 more needed, and he even ended up having to share the top scorer accolade with 22 others this season.

Demion WIlson
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/uoHB86Mxp7lH8PGl91bVNqQvOYiWDUOTFYIsc8Aq.png
Started off quite slowly, but he got into his own with the goals.
I still can't quite get over his game against Roma though, scoring 2 goals before inexplicably getting himself sent off with a hour of play to go - wanted to drop him but with a subsequent pileup he made a quick return anyway.

Ian Barnett
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Rq7jQ6aaBmApt50sxnAEcpZMz9MQu734dxA53uKX.png
Has a player as subpar as him ever played so well consistently?
Incredible season yet again from the left winger, who manages to terrorise opponents' right backs even if he doesn't provide assists.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/8a3WA2lvILUOiKgvAEcF01Y4cgd4rikQdPCAIeIi.png

And my days does he provide assists.

Theron Cupid
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/WU5ckv7YCKqeK51IGqcRwJNDRZOMuAEdzoyCc9z7.png
Another player who's also found himself as a player - there's still the occasional howler, but he's complemented them with commanding performances.

Now normally in this trio (quintet now) the third would be Jessus Connolly, but he's had an injury ravaged season and his complete lack of ability other than pace finally caught up with him, in a way that has managed to not affect Barnett yet.

Nice to see you back @Eric Portapotty, I do feel you need to move on from the Cayman Islands soon if there's very little progression with Latinos.

Not gonna lie, it's becoming a chore to manage here - getting back into it I realised why I wasn't as reluctant to give it up for work as I thought I would.

I'm seriously considering leaving at the end of the season if don't win a cup at least.

-------------------------------

Midseason 22022/23

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/w9qAWmXHBf47PuhukMiYX1jOiY1As8sd0sqPFnJC.png

Why did we only play 8 games in half of a 26-game season? Beats me.
In any case it went about as good as it could get given our teething problems during preseason.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/qxh0VQJyDI3AXWyJ90r0WmyGESz210T4GTSpyapR.png

Indeed we find ourselves amongst the top dogs, having played a few title challengers already.
But with the table as tight as it is it's not hard to see what a midseason collapse can do to our aspirations, especially seeing as that was what precisely happened last season.
Then again, with Demion Wilson still not firing on all cylinders we do have significant untapped potential in this side.

You'd think that the month's break would at least coincide with some cup ties at least, but no:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/mN5fnJGhaxsdIaMGiDqWeBS01Vr1Z3sVyU216fOi.png

It's no longer a biggie if I get drawn with a big team since I've won it already, but I couldn't help but utter a bit of 'bollocks' under my breath.

Preseason 2022/23

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/myXymBXmWCl4SZNv7V9nEOUTEIZUxUC44O6BBNb0.png

4 L from 8 - need I say more?
In fairness most of the teams we played are the top teams, organised like so because I wanted us to work on a more reactive approach as an alternative game plan - evidently didn't work out.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/l4YPo79bAW9vbQMRyAhkAhtoDh1eJhIFzEtZ61q8.png

Our performances in preseason didn't serve to dispel the pessimism the bookmakers have regarding our chances this season.

Only 1 major signing this window:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UTkJTBLqZtYGP0r30iZBY40P0mn3KfFgix7kk7Hu.png

Wilson was inexplicably released from Bodden Town and I snapped him up after a short trial.
He was injured for significant parts of preseason which doesn't bode well, but as a fairly quick striker with a good header on him we could have gotten ourselves a fantastic target for our wingers' crosses.

EDIT: I think I've found out why Wilson was released:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9sb7dCXhMdrO5jz4IOGNOMUnJe7CjSpTJh1CR8J8.png

Yikes.

Back to my main issue though, I'd forgotten to mention a 2nd major transfer:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/t5FRDLTdcOMdfodcvUzGgxY0GKIow5xdJsnBiO0m.png

Another pickup from the Bodden Town discard pile, Welcome went from playing 89 games over 4 seasons for Cayman Athletic to zero in his sole year there - no wonder he hates it there.
It is also a bit of a shotgun approach to sign another starting GK not 6 months after your last one, but if you've followed my time here you'll appreciate my issues with goalkeepers - Hernandez, Coleman, Rowe, Browning, they're either prospects who don't make the step up or seasoned professionals who've jumped.
Welcome would belong to the latter category, but I'll be glad to have him for as long as he's around.

Rest of season 2021/22

If there's any positive to be had from COVID-19 it's that I finally got time to sink into this again:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/z663eUt6Ca0QPI2mk0awLLSMMDdblyK7Nxb9ilUf.png

Well our terrible form did continue for a bit, but you see that unbeaten streak at the end of the season? More draws than wins notwithstanding, that's what we have to do on the regular next season.
Academy though, fantastic season led by their strike partnership and the AM at the tip of their midfield diamond - we had no answer to that in both league encounters this season.
Players of the season were the usual suspects of McLean, Jessus Connolly, Barnett and Abijah Lewis - they've now established themselves at the top of the player hierarchy with a good 4 seasons of good performances.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/vO7cikvf5n6YcbwKoQm6m099t3qMxdmYqhQdfA3Y.png

Or else it's another wasted season in midtable mediocrity.

Cups:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7tMDAcYEZHdb4ZWbP9xvlvVbLabEk208ivJ9GuGD.png

This isn't the cup we want to win (having won it already) but hey, we still managed a semifinal appearance.
But Bodden being the jammy twats they are weren't going to let go of the lead they had in the 1st leg of the semis.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/EW0NILrMIEhZnDQKrCjzLUmyTiccbZo8LRNtatui.png

This one though, we (I) absolutely blew it.
We'd steamrolled the opposition in the 1st 2 rounds but decided to keep it tighter against Future.
As a result we weren't able to get attacks going and after we conceded anyway that was that.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wUfd2xl5qvOv6VDT7w1mXSXDpWLUODsdTuBkpZmt.png

And Future didn't even go on to win, mildly annoying that.

-----

Couple of signings:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/6ajDCovkkgvUby8a0hkbdJKxv2VRowGvApNNbMbu.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Ftk2qCc8Oi0hhc8II2Uoa4liH1ee1BgiJEjaRmVM.png

As much as I want to convince myself that Joshewa Rowe's lack of reflexes won't matter or Hernandez's Professional nature and potential will come good, the reality is that you need a someone who can actually make saves for a goalkeeper.
Browning is that goalkeeper.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/5SiuSxMJ77qnnkcHnY4fdG3CLSaj9mbUC5sF8MN0.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/TCd4tdVw6laS9qEzneVDvNu2SVHXRVHgIJibuw5z.pnghttps://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/pxx6zxZRN0vzeLlQIstOOTScDzw3fPnbNm0c6P8w.png
The other 3 are just 'potential' youths who probably won't see the light of day in the 1st team - man I need squad limits to rein myself in.

A great start to the season with only a blip against Future preventing us from having a perfect start.
... Then Bodden Town came along. Terrible result, made worse by my desire to chase the game instead of cutting my losses.
Then Elite did one over us, then Academy, then Roma nearly did as well as we finished the 1st half of the season winless in 4.

As a United fan, I can safely say we run you guys close for that honour. United's wins against the top teams makes it look better than it has been, absolutely diabolical against the 'lesser' teams; lost to four of the bottom nine (+ Newcastle when they were down there), drawing with four of the other five!

At least you lot had the highs of beating the top sides, we've had fuck all to be positive about so far

Huh... quite something Man United got beaten by West Ham, Bournemouth and Newcastle, then picked up back-to-back wins over both Spurs and Man City.

Ole knows how to set up to defend, it's why he only managed a draw against an Emery team who was similarly cowardly.
