Pre-season is over for another year and I haven't made too many additions to the squad in preparation for the new season as I think we are already strong in most positions. We've got the added incentive of the Copa Libertadores this season (if we qualify) which should make for an interesting season. I'll be aiming to win the title this time around after a strong finish to last season.
MANAGER UPDATE
A little bit of news from last season, although the email just came through! I'VE BEEN VOTED AS MANAGER OF THE YEAR!! That's pretty impressive if I do say so myself. It's the first individual award of my career and I'm over the moon to have won it.
TRANSFERS // IN
Leandro Onetto// LW // Racing de Montevideo // £22k
Leandro should go straight into the team in the LW role, but I'm yet to be convinced due to pre-season form. It will definitely be a battle between himself and Zeballos to make that position their own.
Fixtures
A quick four friendlies is all that we arranged before the season kicks off. We have qualifying for the Copa Libertadores to get through so the fewer friendlies the better really. We managed 3 wins, including a really strong win against a decent Argentine team Argentinos Jnr. We lost the final warm-up game which was disappointing but 3 wins and match fitness is a good run.

@bigmattb28, Yeah, I feel like he's my main man now, he's a fan favourite and he brings such quality to the team! Time to see how we can do this year with the added incentive of continental football added into the mix.

We're done! The first season in the top flight of Uraguyan football is finished and what a 2nd half to the season we had. It was incredible. First of all we brought a fan favourite back to the club and he made a massive impact in the middle of the park. Anyway, here is what happened...
MANAGER UPDATE
I've reached my 100 games milestone. That's flown by to be honest, and unfortunately we couldn't mark the occasion with a win. Anyway my stats so far in my first 100 games are:
WON: 39, 34 DRAWN, and 27 LOSSES!
TRANSFERS // IN
Maximilliano Lemos // CM // Bella Vista // £62k
That's right! The fan favourite has returned. He wasn't enjoying his time at Bella Vista after they got relegated last season. He jumped at the chance to join us again and we paid the exact same for him as we sold him for so no losses there. He's a quality player and we needed someone in the middle to create chances. I'm ecstatic to have him back.
Fixtures
It's been a much better second half to the season as we managed to turn those annoying draws into wins. We also managed to score a lot more which always helps. The defence was at it's best once again and only conceded the 13 goals in 15 games which isn't too bad. We scored a total of 26 goals in the 15 games. Improvement is all around us.
9 WINS,4 DRAWS, and 2 LOSSES.
That is some form!!
LEAGUE TABLE
We managed to rocket up the table and finished in 3rd position overall. We finished on 62 points and a mile behind the top two. I can't quite believe our form and our position after we had been expected to be relegated. The board are understandably delighted with me, and the challenge to win the league is on for next season!

Uruguayan Intermido
The Uruguayan Cup competition happens in between the Opening Stage and the Closing Stage. It's a group competition involving all the top division teams which are split into two groups. We were placed in Group B. As you can see, we managed to not lose in the competition and had 2 WINS and 5 DRAWS which is pretty decent in my eyes. We scored a total of 7 goals and let in only 4. If only we could have managed to grab another win instead of a draw as it wasn't enough to finish in the only qualification spot. It was 2nd place for us and that ends our cup competition for this year. Positive though.

The Opening Stage of the First Division has come and gone and it's time to update you with how we got on in the first 15 games of the season. I'm not sure why they split it into two separate parts but I can't do anything about it so, on we go. I'm really enjoying my time here in Uruguay.
MANAGER UPDATE
I've been offered another new contract by the board so I must be doing something right. Of course, I accepted the offer and I now earn a massive £400 a week.
The only other update on my manager is that they have refused my coaching qualification request once again so that's still annoying me.
Fixtures
Draws have been my most common result this season so far. We've had a lot of them which I guess is a good thing, but also it's frustrating as we could've quite easily turned a few of them into wins. I have found that we don't score many goals which is hindering us in key matches. We need Santiago Ramirez to start scoring on a regular basis. It took him 15 games to grab his first for the club which isn't good at all.
So 15 games in, we managed to rack up 4 WINS, 8 DRAWS, and only 3 LOSSES. I'm pretty happy with how we've fared and we've equipped ourselves really well in the first season in the top flight. With a few key signings (one is incoming) I think we could challenge at the upper end of the table.
LEAGUE TABLE
We sit in 8th position in the league! Right in the middle of the pack which is well above where the media predicited we would finish. We're expected to be in the bottom 3 so I'm ecstatic with where we are. Time to improve on that in the Closing Stage.

Last seasons title win is firmly behind us, and we've just completed preseason before our first season in the top flight of Uruguayan football The aims for the season are simple: to just finish as high as possible. I'm totally unsure at how things will go but we've made additions and I think we are a lot stronger than before. Some key players have left but we've replaced them well and we're ready for the season to start.
TRANSFERS // IN
Gaston Palacios // AMR // Free Transfer // Free
I bought in Gaston to be an option on the right wing. He's pacey with an eye for goal and seems to be good when coming on as a sub. He's definitely going to have a role this season and hopefully can grab a few goals.
Jean Pierre Rosso // WBR // Free Transfer // Free
Jean Pierre is going to be my back up right back for the season. Mathias Bogado is my number one but he's more than capable of coming in if he gets injured. He's only young so will improve as well.
Santiago Ramirez // ST // Danubio // Free
Santiago has come in to replace the outgoing Frederico Vinas. He's a quality striker with decent finishing and has everythign to be a quality poacher in this league.
Rodrigo Urena // DM // Deportes Antofagasta // Free
Rodrigo is going to challenge straight away for the starting holding midfield job. He's going to be a strong player in that position and I'm hoping he can be the link between the defence and the midfield.
Gaston Rosello // DL // Free Transfer // Free
Just like Jean Pierre, Gaston has come in to back up my left back Brayhan Pinheiro. He's young and has got the good potential to be our starting LB in the future.
Gaston Diaz // CM // Santiago Morning // £40k
My third Gaston in the squad. He's my big money signing and will be my key man in the middle. He's come in to replace Maximilliano Lemos in the centre of the park. I'm excited to see what he can do this season.
TRANSFERS // OUT

PRE SEASON RESULTS
We only had time for the 5 friendlies before the season starts. We have played a mixture of teams and managed to get 5 wins. A good win against Danubio who are in the same league should stand us in good stead for the season. The new lads have settled in well and are itching at the bit to get going.

The end of my first season in charge of Juventud de Las Piedras is here and what a season it's been. At the halfway stage we sat in 2nd position in the league, playing some really good football with some awesome performances from the lads at the back. Finances were slowly improving and things were looking up. What happened in the 2nd part of the season I hear you ask?
MANAGER UPDATE
No update on my Manager in this half of the season I'm afraid. Once again I asked for the chance to study for my coaching badge, once again the board said no. I shall keep asking though.
Fixtures
TAfter 12 more games of the season were pretty good for us. I felt that we had played better football in the first half of the season but we managed to get wins on the board and keep those points churning over. 7 WINS, 3 DRAWS, and 3 LOSSES is a good return for any team. The defence managed to keep up its high-performance levels and kept 6 more clean sheets.
LEAGUE TABLE
After 25 games of the season, with only one more game left on the schedule, the league table at the top could literally not be any closer. We sit in the 3rd position on the same amount of points as 1st and 2nd. Goal difference is what separates us. Can we win the title on the last day of the season and win the league?
THE FINAL FIXTURE
The final fixture was against a decent Cerra Largo FC team who had done alright so far this season. We know a win would all that would be acceptable and could hand us the trophy at the end of the day if results went our way. A 91st-minute goal from Franco Munoz sent the crowds crazy and gave us hope that we had the trophy in our hands! WHAT A DRAMATIC FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON...but was it enough?
CRAZILY ENOUGH, Sud America and Central Espanol both drew on the last game of the season which meant that we won the title by 2 points. A crazy achievement and the closest final day I've encountered on my many years on Football Manager. MY FIRST TROPHY OF THE CAREER!

So we've just hit mid-season here in Uruguay and it's time for an update on how the team are doing in the league. There doesn't seem to be a cup competition for the teams in the Second Division so it's just the league to focus on for us. I'm just going to put it out there that I'm enjoying myself more in Uruguay than I did in Chile so take what you will from that...
MANAGER UPDATE
[i]The board are still annoying me and not letting me continue my coaching qualifications because of a lack of funds. It's so frustrating as I need to get them done in order to progress as a manager.
In better news though, the club decided to offer me a new contract and extend it for another year. Of course, I accepted immediately because I think we can build something good here.
Fixtures
We're 14 games into the season which marks half way for us. Things have gone really really well and I'm really excited to see what we can do this season. We started the season with a huge 9 game unbeaten streak and also didn't concede a goal in those 9 games. I've never had a team that has been so strong at the back before and it plays such a huge part in our success on the pitch. We don't score loads of goals per game but we get the job done.
The downside to the start of the season was the last 4 games where we only managed to find 1 win. I'm not sure why our form dropped but I'm certainly going to find out and put it right. 8 WINS, 2 DRAWS, and 3 LOSSES is something that I can definitely not complain about. We just need to keep the momentum going for the last half of the season and who knows, we may end up winning the league...(I've probably spoken to early)
LEAGUE TABLE
We sit in 2nd position. It's fairly close at the top between ourselves and Sud America so hopefully, we can come out on top at the end of the season.

Last time around it was the end of season update, and you saw us escape the drop on a dramatic final day where we managed a huge win to keep us in the league, and more importantly myself in a job. I've had the whole offseason now to get rid of the dead wood and bring in some players that will help me stamp my own mark on the league.
MANAGER UPDATE
I've only gone and got myself another coaching qualification. This means I currently have a National A License. I have asked the board at my new club to send me on the next course but they refused because of the financial situation at the club. We are in serious debt and I don't see that changing so that's quite frustrating.

What a player this lad looks. He's an instant starter at LB. I'm hoping to train him as a wing-back as well, but I'm ecstatic to get him on board.

He's a fairly late addition to the squad but he's a good competition for the main Strikers role. I'm hoping him and Vinas can score a shed load of goals between them.

I really didn't want to let him go, and fought for him to stay but he had his heart set on it and was winding the dressing room up. The baord stepped in and sold him.
PRE SEASON RESULTS
A decent pre season behind us now. 7 games played, 2 losses and 5 wins. That's good enough for me. The players should be full of fitness and should be ready to start the season in a couple of days time. We scored a total of 12 goals in these friendlies and let only 5 in which is always a good sign!

I'd been unemployed for a total of 41 days when a little team in Uruguay gave me the chance to become their first team manager. I jumped at the chance and was on the next plane to this wonderful country!
Club Overview
Juventud de La Piedres are a professional Uruguayan team playing in the Uruguayan Second Division. They have significantly more history than my previous club having been founded in 1935. They've only won the two trophies in that time, the first being Uruguayan Second Division and the second being the Uruguayan Second Division B. Not exactly a trophy cabinet brimming to the rafters though, so that's my aim. Get them some trophies!
The average ticket price for a game is £5 so really cheap, let's hope I can give them good value for this. The club has no fierce rivals and no other rivals, which seems strange to me.
The team play their home games at the Estadio Municipal Parque Artigas which holds a capacity of 3,500 which is all seated!
Training Facilities: Below Average

The Season so Far...
Fixtures
As you can see, it's been a fairly decent season for the club. I'm not too sure why the previous manager got sacked. I've come into the club with 2 games to go on the season so not much time to get anything done this season. The season started fairly well for them with a good few wins on the board early doors. I suppose the form went downhill at the end and they haven't won in the last 3 games.
League Table
The club currently sit in 6th position, with 2 games to go in the league campaign! 6 points on offer, and only a 5 point gap to the playoff! It can still be done but looks very unlikely.
The Squad
We have some really good quality in the team, and I'm not too disappointed with what I've got at my disposal. Obviously, I'll look to strengthen after the season finishes.
Frederico Vinas is the pick of the boys up front, and hopefully, he will be my main goalscorer.
Maximilliano Lemos is probably the best player at the club. The centre midfielder will have the hopes of the fans pinned on him.

THE 5 GAMES...
Can you imagine what happened in these 5 games. I had been set a target of 10 points from these 5 games.
We started off with a huge 3-1 loss against a team below us. That was the game I was banking on winning, to be honest, and we lost it. Not a good start to the challenge.
We got our 1st point of the 10 required as we drew with Deportes Iquique 1-1.
We surprisingly beat Deportes Puerto Montt who were sitting in 3rd position at the time. Our first win of the season!!
We made it 2 wins on the bounce as we trounced Coquimbo Unido 4-0 to make it 7 points collected so far. One game to go and we had to win it!
We lost the game. What a game though. It had it all! 6-3 was the final score...and that was that...
MANAGER NEWS
I did manage to squeeze one last thing out of the club before they sacked me though...I asked them to send me on a coaching course and they accepted. They will fund the course, and I'm now not employed by them...Thanks, and seeya!

A Quick Update
So, the situation so far this season is this; so far we have played 11 games in the league campaign, and so far we have played 11 games without a win. Yes, that's right! WITHOUT A WIN! We've played 11 games, 6 of which have ended in draws, and 5 of which have ended in losses. That's not good enough for me, and I'm not impressed with my management or the players' ability to win games. Here are the fixtures we've played so far and what's happened in them anyway...
The league table doesn't look good for us either, we sit 2nd bottom. The only positive is that it's still relatively close. Our form just has to pick up and we may get a run of wins going and we can rocket up that league. More likely though, is that we will continue our woeful form and sit at the bottom of the league for the foreseeable future.
Of course, the board aren't happy, and I got that dreaded email calling me in for a meeting to discuss confidence in the manager. I pleaded my case saying that it is my first job in management, and they agreed to keep me on if our form improves. The challenge is in...
10 points from 5 games!

I'm still studying for my National B License and once that is completed I will be asking the board permission to start the National A License, which I'm sure they will accept as I think they can already see the benefits.
In terms of my contract, the board decided that I was good enough for another offer. They offered me a lovely 1 year extension where I will earn a massive £500 a week. I'm happy that board felt that they wanted to do that, as it shows a commitment to me and I can carry on trying to build the club up and onwards into the big leagues.

Ronald Gonzàlez // ST // San Luis de Qullota // £9k
Ronald played for us on loan last season and did alright. He's got a decent eye for goal and I couldn't turn down the fact that he was on the transfer list. He will be used in a rotation system up top and hopefully will score a fair amount of goals for me.
Pablo Sanhueza // CB // Magallanes // Free
Pablo is a commanding centre back that should slot straight into the squad. He has great heading ability and is fairly strong so hopefully, he can be a good presence at the back.
Joaquin Moya // CM // Barnechea // Free
Joaqin is a tricky little midfield player who plays best a Mezzala. He's an instant upgrade on the past in the middle so will be in my starting midfield partnership.
Gonzalo Reyes // ST // Santiago Morning // Free
Gonzalo comes from a strong Santiago Morning squad last season. He's a quick, strong presence up top and should score goals for fun if played correctly. Hopefully, he's my star buy of the season.
Daniel Castillo // GK // Universidad de Concepion // Free
Daniel will come straight in to compete for the number one job with our Boris. He's got good stats for a keeper and I don't mind either keeper starting on day one.
PRE SEASON RESULTS
For our preseason, we had a total of 6 friendlies organised. 5 of these were included in a tour of our home country Chile. Things went really well for us as we won the first 5 friendlies in a row scoring a total of 18 goals in the process. We conceded 5, 1 in every game so no clean sheet for us but the wins are the important things. We managed to grab a draw in the last friendly which is ok in my eyes. A good performance against a decent team.
I feel like we are ready for the new season now, and I feel confident in my squads ability. Who knows? That could be famous last words.
