DESTINATION SARAWAK
I'd done it, I'd managed to go and get my first ever job in football management in the lovely country of Malaysia. Sarawak were the team to bestow this honour on me and I'm excited to bring my own brand of football to this wonderful team.
The Team
The squad is a decent size and I think I can work some magic with what I've got available to me. I have a very strong spine of the team with: Milos Raickovic my Montenegrin centre midfield player being the best of the bunch. Behind him is the rock at the back, Brazilian born Demerson who brings a wealth of experience to the team. The main hope for goals lie in 30 year old Mateo Roskam who hails from Croatia. These three will be crucial to my hopes of finishing towards the top end of the league.

FINDING MY FEET IN ASIA
After packing up my belongings and cramming them into what seemed like the smallest backpack around I was ready to begin my travels. I had decided that Singapore would be my base as they spoke English as their main language and I wouldn't be in too much of a stress when searching for jobs. I was sat in the bar on the top of the SuperTree in Gardens by the Bay when I got an email from my agent which stated that the following jobs were available.
Two in the Indian football pyramid. 3 in the Indonesian footballing pyramid, one in the Malaysian and one in the Chinese. I wouldn't mind starting at any of these so I've applied for them all...
The first to get back to me were Henan, the only Chinese representative and it wasn't good news. I'm not surprised, I haven't got any coaching qualifications or footballing background so why would they want to hire me.
It was good news from the others though. I had got an interview for no less than 5 teams and I spent the rest of that evening prepping for some of the biggest days of my footballing life so far.

Hello to you all. I'm hoping that this career will last me a long long time, but I won't promise you that, purely because I know these saves promise a lot, but then flitter out, especially with me at the helm but I will give this my best shot. I've tried this challenge a couple of times before on previous versions of FM and I'm back to do so again on FM18. I have no real plan for the save but the aim is to win every trophy available on the game.
I've decided to start in the region that all good backpacker travellers go to: Asia, now of course I've started with no football experience and no football coaching qualifications which will make the challenge even harder than it already is but we shall see how it goes.

Anyway, not the best of results for me but points are points.
A-League Regular Season:
Ended up finishing 5th after some inconsistent form. Things didn't start well when I lost Bruno Fornaroli for 3 months due to an injury, then he comes back and scores a heap of goals, then I lose him again for another 3 months which is a big miss. I believe that is 10 points anyway.
2 winsa against Melbourne Victory in the league and 1 draw gives me another 10 points.
A-League Finals
A chance to beat the rivals and progress into the semi final and I didn't take it. A humbling 3-0 defeat leaves me with 0 points here.
FFA Cup
We won the cup! So some good news for me this season at last. We got lucky with the draws tbh as we drew non league teams most of the way through until we played Adelaide in the final who gave us a real game. A good extra time win though gives me 25 points.

APRIL 2025 UPDATE - SIGMA OLOMOUC
05.04.2025 - Czech First Division - Slovacko (H) - 2-0
A great way to start the month. We controlled the game and looked very strong at the back as well as going forward. Devante Cole got his first goal just after the half time break with a placed shot into the bottom right corner. He doubled his tally late on in the 89th minute to round off a 2-0 win. 3 points to start the month off.
11.04.2025 - Czech First Division - Bohemians 1905 (A) - 3-0
What a fantastic performance this was. Bohemians are sitting near the lower end of the table but we turned out a performance of the highest quality. Jiri Adamec the young 17 year old target man got things going with a great header. He doubled his tally for the day with another powerful header to make it 2-0. Devante Cole got his usual goal of the game with a great hit from just inside the area that no keeper would have saved. A fantastic performance and another clean sheet.
19.04.2025 - Czech First Division - Pardubice (A) - 2-0
Another game, another 3 points. Devante Cole broke the clubs single goals in a season record with his goals here. His first came when he raced through on goal and slotted it home in the 19th minute. Once again he was the man as he curled an effort round the keeper and it was 2-0. That was that and we stood firm at the back once more.
26.04.2025 - Czech First Division - Jablonec (H) - 0-0
We were so unlucky in this game. We dominated it but couldn't find the back of the net. We held firm at the back and they didn't look like scoring to be honest but I thought we had nicked it when Devante Cole went racing through 1 on 1 once again but failed to score. A good month with 10 out of 12 points and the most pleasing part was that we didn't concede.
With one month to go we sit in 4th which is impressive as anything but we are aiming higher now. We could finish 1st but we could also finish where we are now. I'm hoping that we just play well and win as many as we can. It's been a great season so far.

22.02.2025 - Czech First Division - Viktoria Plzen (H) - 3-2
Our first competitive game since the winter break and we did really well. A huge win against a good team in the league. Devante Cole scored the opening goal when he raced through 1 on 1. Dawid Polkowski scored on his debut with a cracking free-kick from 25 yards out. They pulled a goal back in the 70th minute but we retained a 2 goal lead when Devante Cole got his 2nd of the game. It was soon 3-2 when they put together a strong attack and scored a stunning strike. A good 3-2 win for the boys.
01.03.2025 - Czech First Division - Slovan Liberec (H) - 3-0
We made it a league double against Sloven Liberec and it's a good feeling to do so. Dawid Polkowski made it 2 in 2 games for the club with another stunning free-kick.
3 minutes later Devante Cole tapped in from a lovely cross to make it 2-0. In the final minute of the game Vladimir Martinka got his head to a corner and it found its way into the net. 3-0 and 3 points.
08.03.2025 - Czech First Division - Znojmo (A) - 2-1
3 wins on the bounce and things are going well. Jiri Adamec got his first for the club since signing during the winter break and we were 1-0 up. A glancing head from the target man in the 16th minute. Luka Markic scored a fantastic powerful header to make it 2-0. In the 87th minute they grabbed one back but it wasn't enough. We had gained the points.
15.03.2025 - Czech First Division - Teplice (H) - 1-0
We lost our first game since coming back off the winter break. We played fairly well but we gave away a penalty and that proved to be the pivotal point. We created a fair amount of chances but couldn't take any of them. Not to worry though, plenty of games left to claw these dropped points back.
23.03.2025 - Czech First Division - Slavia Prague (A) - 2-1
We made it 4 wins out of 5 this month which is an impressive feat. We went behind early in the 2nd half when they made the most from a corner and their defender glanced a header beyond the keeper. Ales Novak restored parity though with a curling effort from the right hand side. In the 84th minute our fans were treated to a wonder strike from Devante Cole who wiggled his way past 3 players then let rip from distance for it to fly into the corner of the net. Great stuff from the Jamaican.
After 21 games in the league we sit in 4th position. It's higher than I could ever have imagined but I think we can go higher. We're only 7 points off top so that's not out of reach just yet. I'm hopeful that we can kick on and challenge from here.

TRANSFERS
IN:
We brought in Jiri Adamec from fellow First Division side Mlada Boleslav for a fee of £300k. He's here to replace an outgoing star and has the potential to be a 4*
player. Hopefully he can grab a fair amount of goals.
Dawid Polkowski is again replacing an outgoing player who is getting on a bit. He's a younger version so hopefully will be key in challenging for the title next year. He's an attacking midfield player who scores and creates. We got him for £40.5k from Jagiellonia.
Samuel Rusnak comes in on loan to help bolster the center half options. He's only here till the end of the season but we may make a bid if he performs well.
OUT:
As mentioned above, we've replaced a few of the outgoing players. The main transfer out was Richard Kovacs who joined PAOK for £2.4m. I didn't really want to sell him but the board intervened. In hindsight it's a lot of money for a 20 year old in the Czech league. People can be replaced and we did that with Jiri Adamec
Michal Prochazka also departed us for bigger and better things. He joined Jihlava who sit at the top of the league for £800k. A lot of money coming into the club to reinvest in facilities and players.
FRIENDLIES
We played a number of friendlies, just like every winter break to keep the players fit and on the ball. It's also a good time to get the new players who come in up to scratch with the tactics and how we play. We did very well in these friendlies winning 4 out of the 5 we played. We scored a total of 14 goals and conceded 5. We didn't have a clean sheet which is disappointing but they are only friendlies.

02.11.2024 - Czech First Division - Jihlava (A) - 1-0
The second time in 2 months that we've played the team that's been setting the pace at the top of the league. Last time we got the 3 points, this time we did not. We played really well again and I'm proud of our performance. We couldn't take one of the chances we created with 2 being cleared off the line and 1 hitting the post. Talk about our luck not being in. We gave away a penalty in the 39th minute and they converted it to take the win.
09.11.2024 - Czech First Division - Zlin (A) - 2-1
Last time out against Zlin we took a narrow defeat. This time we got a narrow win. Another good performance from the lads with John O'Sullivan being the man of the match. He converted a penalty in the 38th minute to get draw level after they had taken an early lead in the game. A lucky deflected free-kick from O'Sullivan meant that we ran out 2-1 winners.
23.11.2024 - Czech First Division - Sparta Prague (H) - 4-2
When you think of Czech football, you immediately think of Sparta Prague. The giants of Czech football were turned over by my lads though and I didn't expect it. We went 4-0 up at one point which is incredible. Devante Cole got the 1st with a simple tap in. Nino Kovac got his first for the club with a simple side foot finish for the edge of the area. Nemanja Vejnovic headed in from a corner to make it 3-0 before half time. Richard Kovacs made it 4-0 just after the break. Prague pulled 2 goals back though in the 55th and 88th minutes to make it seem a bit closer but truth be told, we dominated.
30.11.2024 - Czech First Division - Dukla Prague (H) - 2-1
We were brought back to earth with a bump after our tremendous win against Sparta Prague. Their cross city rivals did the dirty on us and scored both of the 2 chances they created. Talk about clinical. We created so many chances but could only take 1. John O'Sullivan who has had a fine month scored our only goal.
So after those 4 games, 2 wins and 2 losses we sit in 5th place in the league. A very admirable 5th by the way and I'm overjoyed with how we are showing ourselves in our first season in the big league. 10 points behind the leaders now, and it doesn't look like we can pull them back so we shall see how high we can finish.

05.10.2024 - Czech First Division - Bohemians 1905 (H) - 1-1
A match up against Bohemians 1905 to start the month off and a fairly good performance saw us gain a draw. We controlled the game but let them score after an error in defence saw them intercept the ball and race through clean on goal. We took the lead in the 54th minute when Nemanja Vejnovic scrambled the ball over the line after a free for all in the penalty area. Just 5 minute the lapse in defence occurred and it was 1-1. A point is better than 0 as I always say.
19.10.2024 - Czech First Division - Mlada Boleslav (A) - 3-0
An astounding result from the lads on their travels. We visited top of the league Mlada Boleslav and came away with all 3 points. They were never in the game and we dominated it from start to finish. Maybe we can hack it in this league. Devante Cole got us off to a good start with a simple tap in from a few yards out. He then doubled his tally late in the 2nd half to make it 2-0. A sublime finish from Dan Ozvolda in the 84th minute made sure of the 3 points and made it 3-0. What a day.
26.10.2024 - Czech First Division - Jablonec (A) - 3-0
Another 3 points and another 3-0 win. We carried on our good form and carried on our goalscoring form as well. Devante Cole also carried on his form and kicked the scoring off with a well timed finish from 12 yards. He doubled his tally with a tidy finish from just inside the box to make it 2-0. Not long after Richard Kovacs made it 3-0 and that was that. A good performance and 3 big points.
30.10.2024 - Czech FA Cup 4th Round - Zlin (H) - 2-1
The FA Cup dream is over after we went crashing out to Zlin at home. An early penalty conceded by Nemanja Vejnovic gave them the early lead before we equalised half way through the 2nd half when Richard Kovacs nip in behind the defence and put the ball in the net. Late in the second half they produced the move of the match to score what was to be the winner. A shame to go out, but I'd much rather concentrate on performing well in the league.
Another unbeaten month in the league and what a month it was. A huge win against the team on top of them all and we got 7 out of 9 points on offer. We rose in the rankings once again and now sit in 5th, just 4 points off top spot. Could this be a miraculous year for us?

13.09.2024 - Czech First Division - Slavia Praha (H) - 1-0
We travelled to the Czech capital to Prague to face Slavia Praha who were doing well in the league to date. A close game on all accounts with an equal amount of possession and an equal amount of shots, but the thing that mattered wasn't equal: the score. They took the lead early in the game in the 7th minute with a fine curling effort from the edge of the area. We couldn't managed to find a goal after many chances and the game ended 1-0. Not the greatest start to the month.
21.09.2024 - Czech First Division - Slovacko (A) - 5-2
Our 2nd away game in a round, but this time round we had a positive result. We got our goalscoring flair back and I'm delighted with how the lads played. Vinnie Vemeer got us off to a flyer in the 2nd minute with a well placed shot. Richard Kovacs got the 2nd goal and his 1st in the 9th minute with a tap in. Sloavako managed to pull one back to make it 2-1 before 6 minutes later Devante Cole (son of Andy I've just found out) restored the 2 goal lead. It was soon to be 3-2 when they scored a powerful header from a corner. In the 2nd half, Richard Kovacs doubled his tally and made it 4-2 with a classy run into the area and clipped one into the corner. He completed his hattrick a few minutes later to round off a 5-2 victory.
25.09.2024 - Czech FA Cup 3rd Round - Most (A) - 4-0
Another fantastic goalscoring performance against a lower league side this time round. We controlled the game and could've scored more. Vladimir Aytov got the opener with a simple finish from 8 yards out. Devante Cole then scored 3 minutes later to curl one round the keeper and into the net. Richard Kovacs made it 3-0 before the half time whistle with another tap in. John O'Sullivan scored the 4th in second half injury time and that was that. Through to the 4th round of the cup.
28.09.2024 - Czech First Division - Pardubice (H) - 1-0
We hosted fellow newcomers to the league Pardubice to our home, and sent them away empty handed. A big performance against the league strugglers. Richard Kovcas continued his fine goalscoring form of late when he rounded the keeper in the 54th minute. 1-0 was enough to gain the 3 points and round of an impressive month.
After the good performances this month we have risen slightly and now sit in 9th position on 12 points with 4 wins. I'm proud of how we're playing this season and who knows how high we can go.

03.08.2024 - Czech First Division - Viktoria Plzen (A) - 2-0
We couldn't get a harder game ot start the new season with. Previous champions Viktoria Plzen were the hosts and I didn't expect anything from th game and that's what I got. 0 points but a fairly decent performance. I'll take the positives from that. They took the lead in the 15th minute and went 2-0 up in the 27th. It didn't help when my left back Lukas Landovksy got himself a red card and we were forced to play the rest of the game with 10 men. A good performance but a bad result.
10.08.2024 -Czech First Division - Pribram (H) - 2-1
Our first home game in the First Division and it was another defeat. Things are going to be harder in this league. They took the lead in the 11th minute but we didn't quit. We fought back and got our goal in the 51st minute through Devante Cole when he raced through 1 on 1. He finished the job off and put the ball in the back of the net. Unfortunately 4 minutes later a poor back pass got intercepted and they scored to make it 2-1. We couldn't force our way back into the game this time and we lost 2-1.
14.08.2024 - Czech FA Cup 2nd Round - Vitkovice (A) - 2-0
We got our first win of the season albeit it not in the league. A good performance from the lads and hopefully we can take this momentum into the league. John O'Sullivan scored the opener in the 30th minute with a stunning strike from the edge of the area. Richard Kovacs double our lead in the 37th and things were looking good. We controlled the rest of the game and saw the result out. A good win and into the next round of the cup.
17.08.2024 - Czech First Division - Slovan Liberec (A) - 3-0
Finally we got our first league win! What a time to be alive. A fantastic performance and a fantastic result to go with it. Things started to go our way when Devante Cole
was put through and finished with aplomb on the 19th minute. Richard Kovacs then doubled our lead on the 26th minute when he volleyed home from a poor clearance.
It stayed 2-0 up until the half time whistle. Midway throught he 2nd half John O'Sullivan tapped in from a few yards out from a great cross from the right hand side. We finished the game at 3-0 and I'm delighted to get 3 points on the board.
24.08.2024 - Czech First Division - Znojmo (H) - 2-0
Another win and another set of 3 points. We finally gave our home fans something to cheer about. What a performance and 2 great goals from Vladimir Aytov and Nemanja Vejnovic who both scored from a few yards out from corners. Set pieces for us are proving to be a good source of goals. We managed to make it 2 clean sheets in a row as well which is very impressive. New keeper Floren Ciochina is already paying dividends.
31.08.2024 - Czech First Division - Teplice (A) - 1-0
We were sent crashing back to earth with a bump. After the previous 2 games, we nearly made it 3 wins in a row but a sending off ruined our chances. Lucas Landovsky got himself a straight red card when he lunged into a tackle and missed the ball. Stupid as that's 2 sendings off already this season. They nicked a winner in the 80th minute when they intercepted a ball and ran through on goal and finished nicely to the right hand side of the keeper. A poor result really.
So after 6 games in charge, 5 in league we sit in 11th place with 6 points. An alright start for the boys in a higher division than last season. I'm happy that we've got 3 wins that could have so easily been 3 wins but 6 points is better than none. I'll be looking at consolodating ourselves in the league this season and mounting a challenge next time round. Who knows? We may win the cup this season as a bonus.

PRE SEASON 2024/25 UPDATE: SIGMA OLOMOUC
TRANSFERS
IN:
We needed to bring in some players to add some strength for the upcoming season in the First Division so I set about finding these players.
First of all I brought in Florin Ciochina from my old team FCSB on a free transfer. He was my number on during my time at FCSB and I'm glad he wanted to join back up with me and will go straight into the starting line up.
Kristijan Karadzole-Glasovic is a 17 year old superstar who plays as a deep lying playmaker. He also goes straight into the starting line up as he has the quality already to make a difference in there. We got him relatively cheap for around £275k.
Ales Novak is another youngster at the age of 20 and slots in straight at right back. He's an attacking right back who loves to get forward so hopefully he can do this regularly.
Matija Boben is the last player that i brought in myself, the rest were done by the DOF. Boben is another of my former players from my Gorica days and comes in to provide rotation at CB. He's got the experience and hopefully he can tutor some of my youngsters so the future remains bright.
OUT:
I sent a number of youngster and fringe players out on loan to gain match experience and hopefully to improve so they can come back to challenge for the first team. The most notable is Andrei Domsa who has 4* potential. I'll be keeping an eye on him whilst he's out on loan.
FRIENDLIES
We played 4 friendlies in total so that the lads could get some game time in their legs. It's all about gaining fitness and for the new players to learn our style of play. We did exceptionally winning all 4 games. We scored a total of 9 goals and only conceded 2 in the process. A good start to the season and hopefully we can continue this into the season.

With the league already wrapped up we only had 3 games to complete the season. I've rotated the squad for these games to test out some other players for next season as I still plan to be in charge unless a huge team comes in for me. Anyway the rest of the league fixtures went like this:

END OF SEASON AWARDS
Vaclav Jurecka took the Player of the Season award and achieved an average rating of 7.36. He set up 16 goals which is a new record in the division and also chipped in with 6 goals. Not too shabby for an attacking midfield player.
Vladimir Aytov came 2nd in this award and in any other team he would have won it. He had an awesome season.
We took a 1,2,3 in the Young Player of the Season award with Erik Pipiska taking the top award. He had an average rating of 7.26 and scored 9 goals in the league. A great performance from the youngster.
Richard Kovacs took second place and Jaromir Borovicka took 3rd.
The top goalscorer award had one name written on it all season. Richard Kovacs who scored a ridiculous 17 goals in the league and more overall. He could have got a lot more if he hadn't thrown a tantrum that meant I left him out of the team.

04.05.2024 - Czech Second Division - Kladno (H) - 2-0
We've hit a good run of form and we look fantastic at the moment. We're playing some really good attacking football and I couldn't be happier. Vladimir Martinka got the first goal of the game with a big powerful header from a corner to make it 1-0. Vaclav Jurecka got the 2nd goal with a good curling effort which went into the top right corner. A good performance and 3 massive points.
11.05.2024 - Czech Second Division - Bohemians Praha (A) - 3-2
A narrow win against the side that sits bottom of the league. We went 2-0 up through goals from Vaclav Jurecka and Richard Kovacs in the first half. We switched off slightly in the and they came back into the game by scoring goals either side of the half time whistle. We eventually found the winner in the 87th minute when Richard Kovacs tapped in from close range to spark big celebrations.
15.05.2024 - Czech Second Division - Taborsko (A) - 2-0
With the news coming after the last game that we had already sealed promotion to the top division by coming in the top 2 in the league we wanted to kick on and secure the title. John O'Sullivan back from his suspension showed his class by walking through the defence and slotting the ball home in the 62nd minute. Devante Cole showed his importance to the team when he rounded the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net to make sure of the result.
WE WON THE LEAGUE!
With 3 games to go we have won the Czech Second Division without having to play another game. Pardubice played their game before us and lost it which meant that the gap was now to big for them to come back. A great season for the lads and although we were touted to win it by the board and that was my expectation we still needed to execute. Another trophy to add to my personal collection.

03.04.2024 - Czech Second Division - Viktoria Zizkov (H) - 1-0
Things didn't get off to a good start this month as we lost our first game since November (Winter break in there). Things got harder for us when Vinnie Vemeer got himself a straight red card after lunging into a tackle and not getting the ball on the 12th minute. They made the extra man count in the 57th minute and got the opening goal,
Things were levelled up when they received a straight red for a similar tackle. We couldn't get back on terms though and the game petered out. A loss and not looking good.
06.04.2024 - Czech Second Division - Most (H) - 2-0
This is much more like it. Back to scoring and back to winning ways. We left it fairly late in this one though and just about came out on top. We controlled the game but couldn't take one of our early chances but in the 76th minute we got a free-kick which Vaclav Jurecka expertly smashed into the top corner. We made sure of the 3 points in the 87th minute when Erik Pipiska tapped in a low cross to make it 2-0.
10.04.2024 - Czech FA Cup Quarter Final - Jihlava (H) - 3-2
We were the lowest ranked team left in the FA Cup at this stage so I didn't expect a win. We put on a good fight and a good show for the fans and we were unlucky not to come away with a draw or even a win. They went ahead in the 14th minute but we levelled things up in the 23rd minute through a well placed strike from Vaclav Jurecka
. We took the lead early in the 2nd half through Erik Pipiska but couldn't hold on long enough. In the 53rd minute they equalised and in the 56th an own goal from Lukas Landovsky put the ball into his own net to make it 3-2 to them. Heartbreak for the young lad. Time to focus on the league now after a good run in the FA Cup
13.04.2024 - Czech Second Division - Opava (A) - 2-1
We're making a habbit of this losing malarkey and I don't like it one bit. They went ahead early in the game only for us to be reduced to 10 me once again in the 2nd half when John O'Sullivan got himself 2 yellow cards. We levelled up the game though when Devante Cole was sent through 1 on 1 and slotted it home. We looked to have rescued a draw in the 87th minute but in the 90th minute they grabbed a late winner to my disbelief. Annoying but that's football.
20.04.2024 - Czech Second Division - Trinec (A) - 2-0
We turned things around and got the win at a crucial time. With only a few games to go we needed to start picking up points again and we did that brilliantly. Devante Cole got his first goal of the game in the 66th minute with a tap in after a pinball esque moment in the box. He doubled his tally in the 90th minute to make sure of the result. Much more like it from my boys.
24.04.2024 - Czech Second Division - Frydek-Mistek (H) - 2-1
Our new striker Dem Pljava who has come in to replace Richard Kovacs (who is sitting out because he wants to leave the club and I won't let him) got us off to a flyer when he opened the scoring in the 39th minute when he hit a shot that trickled over the line. Devante Cole carried on his good run of scoring form and got the eventual winner in the 55th minute before they got one back in the 71st minute. 2 wins on the trot and that's much more like it.
Due to our bad form in the league this month the lead has been cut from 7 to 1 which is slightly annoying. I still back my lads to do well but it's not going to be easy. Let's see how it goes in the final month...
