If every publication was just given an equal footing it would not give a fair representation because metacritic tries to accomodate exterior permutations. It is trying to take something subjective and create an objective result based upon collective reasoning.
It's not perfect, no one's saying that, but it is by far the best method to gauge the quality of a game. If they didn't think weighting was necessary, trust me, they wouldn't do it because the process of aggregating scores suddenly becomes something a seven year old can do with a calculator.

I don't expect much from these morons, but at least they can plug the round holes with their square shaped bodies and I can hope for the best.
Ten games into the seaosn and we're doing pretty poorly. It doesn't help that in the three months we've been going Brandon Theron has been injured four times so I'm having to rely on some guy called Feliz Belie and that old fuck I bought last year called Ndela who my coaches keep telling me is past it. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, I'l probably be sacked soon.

I don't really see how that benefits them, unless someone was paying them to do it, which in turn would destroy the credibility of the site if discovered.
The weighting just places greater importance on websites with certain scoring styles and on more renowned publications.

That one about him being a non-fiction writer who goes to live in the house where murders take place is fucking outstanding for the first half. I think it's called Slither. Anyway, the first half of it with all the old school Super 8 footage is fucking gripping, whoever did the sound on that film should give themselves a pat on the back. Shame the ending is shit, but you can't win them all.

Adding a weighting to each publication is the only fair way to do, different sites use different methods to score their games so weighting evens up the scores to make them relevant when converted to the 100 scale that Metacritic uses.

I also think it's pathetic that he's finding it hard to settle. He's got an opportunity few footballers will ever be afforded, training at one of the finest academies in the world and soon to be under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola. That isn't what KM is alluding to, he's trying to argue that the concept of aggregation is flawed. The only thing I can think he might be using to support this idea was a report that came out saying different websites have different multipliers on them so different scores have a different weight. But that makes sense for the most part, for example if a site uses a 1-100 scale it gives a true representation of the score on metacritic, but if the site uses a five star system, like on Giant Bomb, they can only give 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, meaning their four stars is not as well represented on the metacritic scale.
With that said, it might not be what KM is talking about.
