No but it goes to show things aren't quite as bad as people would have you believe, we've had a poor start sure but its not because we aren't creating chances so much as not taking them.

Weren't you saying the same things last year?

I haven't seen Hard Eight, and most cinemas in the UK stopped showing The Master after like a week, when I couldn't see it.

I'm going to have to watch them all again, but upon first viewing (I only saw them all for the first time in the last few months) Magnolia stuck with me the most.

I can't blame you, it's an emotionally hard hitting film. Sticks in your gut.
I love the Scorsese-esque mix of humor and tragedy in Boogie Nights. It's like Goodfellas in the porn world.
And Blood is just a powerhouse.

Just curious, what's your favourite to least favourite PTA films? Magnolia's probably one of my favourites.

I have a hard time ranking them really, but I'll give it a go.

1) Boogie Nights
2) There Will Be Blood
3) The Master
4) Punch Drunk Love
5) Magnolia
6) Hard Eight

Boogie Nights was the first PTA film I saw, so it'll probably always be my number 1. Blood and Master I think will battle it out for 2nd place forever, and it'll all depend on my mood, and repeated viewings of The Master.

Hard Eight's the only film of his that I don't consider at least a 9/10, and it's still a solid film. Especially considering he was like 24 when he made it.

Yeah, when I said romance I should have put bromance. Think they very much were obsessed with each other but for different reasons, but ultimately they were bad for each other. Like you say, Dodd was looking for a project and perhaps somebody to experiment with (I think at some point he even calls Freddie his guinea pig, and thinking about it he treats him like a dog for most of the film), whilst Freddie was looking for somebody to give him the easy answers and some direction, or maybe he just wanted some pussy and rocket fuel, or the father figure he didn't have. I think maybe Dodd wanted him around because he was different and actually challenged him.

Urgh, I could happily watch it again tomorrow. I'm going to make it my job this weekend to sit down and watch Magnolia.

Not seen Magnolia yet?? It can be a bit much, and it is my second least favourite PTA film, but it's still fucking amazing, and I'm blown away every time I see it.

So The Master was even better a second time. Bobber what did you make of the ending?

Specifically Freddie and Lancaster's final meeting. I kinda took the whole film to be almost a romance story between the two of them, and the final meeting was Dodd almost telling Freddie to go and be free to save him from eventual trouble if he stayed with the Cause. Still not totally sure what the end scene with the girl was, but I think its probably him giving into his animal nature but at the same time using the things he learnt from Dodd to keep himself calm, or something. I'm still processing that one.

And Amy Adams character is still really intriguing to me. To me it seemed like she was the main driving force of the Cause, that she was the one who ultimately kept them pushing forward with Dodd being the charismatic 'poster boy' to see it through. A lot of layers and intensity in her performance.

Such a fucking good film, so rich in ideas and themes, I'm really glad I got to see it again. Wish I could have seen it on 70mm, bet it would have looked stunning. Love Greenwood's soundtrack too, it seems to shift and morph throughout.

I see it a different way, really. I think Dodd very much loved Freddie. He saw himself in him. The wild side he couldn't admit to having. But I think the last scene between them was sort of about Dodd's inability to have people question him? Or not be dependent on him? And Freddie realising that while The Cause helped him, he simply didn't believe in Dodd anymore. At least not as a leader. The scene in the desert when Freddie splits pretty much indicated that, in my opinion. Dodd played games. Freddie was trying to sort out his life.

I really don't have any idea what the last shot of the film is about. Freddie seems very interested by the idea of reincarnation and previous lives. Dreaming of a life where he wasn't fucked up. Where he could be with Doris. All the girls Freddie went for sort of looked like Doris as well.
I think he's still screwed up by the end, but he's not filled with the same rage that he was earlier. Just trying to make it through life. Trying to create/find the perfect woman. Doris, basically.

It's a brilliant film. PTA's most emotionally complex and character heavy film to date. I'll be watching it for the third time in January when it's out in Denmark, and probably many more.

Takes the fun out of the game. But you can describe how it looks in the photo, and then we can have a comparison with the Paint images afterwards.

This is the thread where we describe our penises in detail.

If you all want we can have a little game, where we draw each others penises in Paint, based on the description, and the one who comes the closest gets a lot of points or something?

Footy's gotten soft, because stamping down on people's ankles is seen as a bad thing.

End of Watch

One of the best films I've seen in a while. Easily the best cop/gang film since training day.

Could we not have just ONE Liverpool fan who admits that Suarez is a fucking cunt?

I'll even start it off:
John Terry is a scummy moron, who probably deserves every bad thing that comes his way.
Ivanovic is dirty and has a weird tendency to dive.

I disliked the man as much as anyone when he was at Liverpool, but he's the manager for now, so how about some support for the team?

Australia's expensive.

But yeah, it's an insane amount to be spending.

It quickly adds up. Beers are about $8 (and the only do schooners here, which are about 2/3 of a pint) and shots and vodka are about $10. Red bull and vodka is about $15.

It's impossible to have a biggish night without spending $200+

Still means you have ten biggish nights a month.

That sounded more judgemental than it was supposed to.
How do you have money for anything else though?
