Not looking forward to tomorrow. The season was oh so hopeful a few short weeks ago, but we (Bristol Rovers) are continuing to fight a ridiculous injury list after seeing no less than 6 players fall to an ACL injury last year and one to a broken ankle. Our first-team squad are down 9 players to various ailments already, including a broken leg and another fucking ACL.

We've also been served notice of a potential judicial review into the proposed re-development and sale of our stadium. If it falls through, that will mark our 6th failure at a modern new ground since we left Eastville Stadium in the 80's.

...Bah!

Have the council been involved in the re-development and sale of the ground? If not, it can't be judicially reviewed.

"The Tigers brand, with its powerful imagery, will be used in international markets to attract new interest and attention in both Hull and the East Riding from a worldwide audience."

Fuck the brand. Had enough of people with zero respect for English football tradition coming in and running football clubs. Football clubs need to be the heart of a community, not a billionaire's plaything. The good folk of Hull need to come first, the die-hard supporters, not Johnny Foreigner. Besides, I'm pretty certain on-field success is how you attract interest and attention.

Punished for the only lapse of concentration in the game. Better side in a first half of few chances, and started the second the brighter, but got done when we just didn't track the underlapping runner into the box. Up to then we'd had probably the only two real chances of the game, Paterson taking an air shot eight yards out and Vaughan forcing the only real save of the game out of the keeper. Encouraging signs for Town, with Hogg looking like something of a midfield general and being comfortably the best player on the pitch.

They had over 25 shots

Shot doesn't equal chance. I mean created real goalscoring opportunities where they saw the whites of the goalkeeper's eyes. How many of those shots were pops from outside the box or as a last resort after being crowded out? Granted, they had a handful of crosses that flashed across the box, and once Notts were tired in the last five minutes they were able to create more, but for 85 minutes they created next to nothing. They scored, Porter missed a sitter, that was it from open play. A number of times Doyle lined one up from outside the box, or they passed it about trying to find an opening. How many times was the keeper tested? Not enough, in the circumstances.

Thought Sheffield United were excellent, looked similar to Moyes' Everton. Thought Westlake was extremely good at RB.

Look like they probably need a better striker though.

Thought they looked very average for a side who will be looking for automatic promotion. Didn't create enough chances against a makeshift defence, and were pedestrian in the final third, with shortcomings covered by their dominance of possession. Until the last five minutes they created bugger all in open play. They lack a creative midfielder and a quality striker, at the very least. Probably need an injection of pace to give them another dimension as well.

Apparently the right-back, Christie, is quite handy. Only what I've been told, though. Whenever I watched them on telly last season they looked utter garbage.

Also, it's Sheffield United v Notts County on TV tonight. Football is back!

Bournemouth have no chance of winning promotion this year I think.

This is a bonkers league. If they get off to a flier, then who knows. Howe's a manager who fits the club like a glove. Making predictions in this division is a mug's game. After all, quite a few here would have said Wolves for the title last season (including myself) - and look where they ended up.

That said, I'll predict Bolton to win the division, Wigan to go up as runners-up, and Blackburn to go up via the play-offs, beating Nottingham Forest in the final. QPR to finish 15th, 'Arry to get the sack in November after falling out with Fernandez and Dickov to surprisingly win manager of the season after guiding Doncaster to a credible 9th placed finish.

The Ricoh really is the worst of the modern stadia, although whether the club's on-field fortunes have something to do with that I don't know. Crowds have dropped since the Highfield Road days (20,000+ every week, I think), the club's revenues have plummeted due to the business agreements they've been involved with, and now there's the prospect of playing at Northampton. It's enough to put anyone off building a new ground.

Just if anyone knows, how was the ground originally funded? Was it 100% CCFC, or was there local council input?

Lost 4-2 to Real Betis last night. Played well, and had as many chances as our more illustrious opponents, but they had a lad who was absolutely clinical in sticking away a hat-trick. Plenty of encouraging signs for the season, not least Vaughan and Paterson scoring (the latter with a wonderful chip from a narrow angle), if only we could sort out the problem of switching off on set-pieces.

All adult sites are blocked on the mobile networks by law and have been for a while. TalkTalk have been passing off the supposed Government filter software as a security feature for ages.

Didn't their CEO go to school with Cameron, and doesn't he give ludicrous amounts of money to the Tory party?

While I appreciate the mention, I'm sure my D in A-Level Law doesn't make me an expert. I think terriesmad guy actually has legal experience, but either way, look at your contract Deano, if there's something about notices you might have a case. If your boss owns the business and then is closing it down, surely he would need to do that properly before sacking everyone.

I know some employment law, but I really wouldn't want to give any advice using it (I'm self-taught in that area, and I've never had to use it for anything other than exams). Were the area of law crime or civil litigation I'd happily offer advice, but in employment matters I'm just not qualified.

Deano, your best shot is to find somewhere that advises pro bono where you are. Citizens Advice Bureaux offer pro bono advice, but it might be limited in scope. I'd also suggest going to a local university to see if they have a student law office, but with it being the summer I'd have my doubts about whether they'd be able to handle new enquiries. It's also possible that local solicitors firms offer some kind of pro bono scheme. All I can say for certain is that if the worst came to pass you would have three months to take action otherwise any claim you might have would be out of time.

Watford sign 7 players on free transfers from Udinese.

Cheating bastards. Not only is it a way round the loan regulations, it's a way around FFP. Just look at the rest of us in the division charging around having to pay transfer fees on top of wages, when Watford get seven players for a song. Utterly unfair.

If he could stay fit for more than 3/4 months at a time. If he does, he'll be a good one for you.

He wouldn't be playing for anyone in this division if he could do that. His injury problems turn a £4m striker into a £1m one.

Welcome home, Jon Stead.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BNih4zNCEAExr1Y.jpg

And hello again, Adam Hammill.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BNjAZi5CcAAJMAd.jpg

Two good signings. God only knows why Wolves let Hammill go without really giving him a chance. Clearly has talent, even if he's frustratingly inconsistent. Steady, we know all about, and it's great to see him back where he belongs. Going on his wife's Twitter feed, it's where he's wanted to be for some time - home.

Shirt: very nice. Looks like a 1980s Bukta shirt. Which is great, even if the stripes are just a smidgeon too light.

Photoshop: not so. Nice idea. Less said about the execution (hamstrung by very, very old pictures) the better. Belting team, though. Points for those who can name all XI (then shoehorn them into a coherent formation - it's a bit midfield light).

Away to Nottingham Forest is a bugger as we always have a disaster at the City Ground (though we can't do much worse than last time). Then home to Queens Park Rangers isn't. Quite fancy us to take 3 points off that lot.

Rumour said free transfer. But Nigel Clibbens has come out and said it isn't happening, so he looks like heading to Barnsley instead. Does this mean we finally have that Paterson deal sorted? Or does it mean that we're bringing in someone different? I'm not too worried, as it's been a slow summer right the way down the division, possibly because FFP has left a lot of clubs trying to bring in players for less than what the player and agent want to accept, at least at the moment. I think that come early August there will be a lot of unemployed footballers suddenly willing to play for a pay cut.

A rumour which appears to have substance at last! Dale Jennings in line for a return to English football with Town, according to Sky Sports. May be bollocks, but it's the first whisperings for a while that we're doing something in the transfer market.

Read that Lewin Nyatanga is considering contract offers from both us and 'Udders'

Would drive him to you, he's had a resurgence under SO'D, but I've never been sure of him.

Wouldn't fancy him, to be quite honest. I'd look at young Wallace as a first-team prospect before bringing anyone new in at the back for now. That said, we're probably offloading Joel Lynch because the manager doesn't particularly like him, so we'd need a fourth centre-half.

I have, and it bugs me that they (and most other manufacturers, to be honest) just produce templates rather than actually design kits. Also true for Umbro, but I reckon Umbro were somewhat persuadable with regards to the home kits.

Umbro pulled out of a 4-year contract with us so we have new manufacturers this season. Rumoured to be Puma, who'd better keep it simple and not fuck up the simplest design known to man. Blue and white vertical stripes both on the front and the back and down the sleeves, white shorts, black socks. Not difficult.
