Should have done what Liverpool done in the 60's, 70's and 80's and promote a coach or ass manager when the manager left. Someone the players were already familiar with. Did brilliant for us until Souness fucked shit up

As a coach (Louis Van Gaal) he is known as a slow starter who frequently finds his players needing ample time to grasp his tactics and intent of play. Generally his teams gather results in the second or third season under his coaching.

Lose > blame ref. They've a tough job to do. Cut them some slack. Teams can't keep deflecting the blame to ref's if they lose.

Really don't understand why people would want to be a ref anyway. All you get is abuse. Poor guys

I have a thirty five mile race in June. Last year I raced over 64 and 90 miles, and didn't do any specific training for either.

This year, after 12 months of sitting in an office and eating shit, I'm struggling even to run 5 miles. June is going to be emotional.

35 mile running race?!?

I swim, but mainly for survival or when shitfaced on holidays.

Walking 10k to and from work every day. Love it. It's helps to have a whopper playlist, and when the sun is out. Annoying walking through the city though, too many people. We need a new plague

That 10k walk must take quite a while?

Dublin is far too big, and you're right, they'd wanna trim down the population a bit.

Living in Galway at the moment. (Studying in NUIG) It's brilliant here, wouldn't even call Galway a city. Just a big town. Would absolutely hate to live in Dublin though.

Did another 5km run on Sunday but I'd no iPod this time. It was absolute torture, couldn't even bear the idea of doing anything more than 5km.

Whereas today I went for a 85km cycle, and I didn't get bored once. Despite riding into wind over a hilly pass. With the odd rainfall. Much much more bearable.

Do any of you swim?

And have they built you a new stadium?

It's 8 weeks conditioning, 9 weeks basic military training, then they'll assign me to a vocation.

Not much choice, unless there are special circumstances (a family member's illness for instance).

What if you have a full time job? I assume you can return to it after you finish the conscription period?

Reminds me of the time I did volunteer work at one of our former army barracks in Limerick a few years back in school. If Ireland got invaded tomorrow, we'd be sending out a bunch of old, lazy and overweight soldiers to defend us. Maybe a couple of out of date tanks and I'm not sure if our air-force have any proper working planes. We'd be overran in hours.

Re-unite us with the Brits!

He's awesome. I'd start him on the left and use Lallana on the right.

Rooney in the AM role and Sturridge up front and that's one hell of an attacking line. Chances of that happening against Italy are unlikely though. He'll probably start Lambert up front instead and play it long all game.

Everyone quick to slate Gerrard for crying. Who cares and what difference does it make? Extremely emotional day for Liverpool. So glad with the win though. Should have been over at half time but fair play for City for the second half comeback. We rode our luck but hung on in there.

Henderson is going to be a massive loss I think, he's got an unbelievable engine + work ethic. terrible tackle + fully deserves 3 match ban. Time for Lucas/Allen to step up. Sturridge was piss poor today and Suarez seemed to retreat to the way he was a year ago - moaning and diving. Lucky to finish the game. Nevertheless, 4 more cup finals to go.

How good is Sterling though?!?! Just breezed past the City players all day long. Surely a starter for England in the WC?
