It was deliberately removed, after this discovery. It serves no purpose, and the files contained within it are not needed.

The dbc/permanent folder is missing in the FM26 Sortitoutsi Real Name Fix File v4.1.zip. This folder is important as it should include several key files:

create a club.dbc
forbidden_names.dbc
j_league_non_player.dbc
swear_words.dbc
uae_board_members_new.db

@mons  I wanted to let you know about a small issue with the FM26 Sortitoutsi Real Name Fix File v4.1. It seems that the folder in the 'permanent' section of the 'dbc' folder might have been accidentally deleted.

Just a heads up that in the latest update of Football Manager 26.2.0, Arsenal has signed twin brothers, Edwin and Holger Quintero. You can find their data cutout faces below:

I downloaded the 2026.02 update and processed all images using pngquant (256 colours, metadata removed).
Everything encoded correctly except for two files that failed with a “cannot decode/encode image” error:

  1. 2000502840.png
    https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics/browse/1/1802934/timeline
  2. 13153854.png (this one has been failing since the initial 2026.00 update and no longer database FM26)
    https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics/browse/1/175550/timeline

Both files consistently trigger the same pngquant error and cannot be processed.

@mons

I’ve finished creating a Football Manager 26 Real Name Fix Installation Guide with improved formatting, consistent step numbering, and simplified instructions.

The updated version is clear, easy to follow, and ready to be shared. You can copy and paste it directly into a post, blog article, or README file. My goal was to make it easier for users to read and understand, especially for those on Steam, Epic, Game Pass, or Mac.

The guide includes:

  • Step-by-step instructions for installing both dbc/edt/lnc folders and the editor data files
  • Correct paths for each platform
  • Clean layout with headings, code-style folder paths, and warning notes
  • Improved consistency for readability and support use.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are using an FM23 or FM24 save in FM26, you must also install this fix in the folders listed below in addition to those mentioned further down in the text:

📁 2300
📁 2310
📁 2320
📁 2330
📁 2340
📁 2400
📁 2430
📁 2600

⚽ FM26 REAL NAME FIX – INSTALLATION GUIDE

By Sortitoutsi.net | Works for Steam, Epic, Game Pass & Mac

⚙️ WHAT YOU NEED

  • Download link: FM26 Real Name Fix (Sortitoutsi.net)
  • Football Manager 26 must be closed before starting.
  • A file extractor:
    • Windows → WinRAR or 7-Zip
    • Mac → The Unarchiver or Keka
  • After extracting the ZIP, you’ll see these folders:

📁 dbc
📁 editor data
📁 edt
📁 lnc

🧩 STEP-BY-STEP INSTALL GUIDE

🖥️ FOR WINDOWS (Steam / Epic / Game Pass)

Step 1 – Locate your database folder
Go to your FM26 installation folder, then open the database directory:

Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Football Manager 26\data\database\db\2600
Epic: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\FootballManager26\data\database\db\2600
Game Pass: C:\XboxGames\Football Manager 26\Content\data\database\db\2600

💡 If you see folders like 2610 or 2620, that’s your latest patch version - use the newest number instead of 2600.

Step 2 – Delete the old folders
Inside that database folder, delete only these three folders:

📁 dbc
📁 edt
📁 lnc

⚠️ Do not delete any others (for example 2600_fm or later patch folders like 2610).

Step 3 – Copy the new folders
From your extracted Real Name Fix, copy the dbc, edt, and lnc folders into the same location.

Your structure should now look like:

...\data\database\db\2600\

📁 dbc
   📁 permanent
      📄 create a club.dbc

      📄 deceased.dbc

      📄 england.dbc

      📄 forbidden names.dbc

      📄 france.dbc

      📄 j league non player.dbc

      📄 melbourne_kit.dbc

      📄 misc.dbc

      📄 netherlands.dbc

      📄 swear_words.dbc

      📄 womens_football.dbc
   📄 bald_people.dbc

   📄 bundesliga_kits.dbc

   📄 havre_kit.dbc

   📄 turkiye.dbc

📁 edt
   📁 permanent
      📄 alliteration_adjectives.edt

      📄 eng_youth_grades.edt

      📄 future_chairmen.edt

      📄 not_registered.edt

      📄 stadium_templates.edt

      📄 start_in_admin.edt

      📄 sugardaddy.edt

      📄 support_staff.edt

      📄 transfer_embargo.edt

      📄 valid_takeovers_only.edt

📁 lnc
   📄 Awards.lnc

📄 City, Club and Stadium Names.lnc

   📄 Competitions and other Fixes.lnc

Step 4 – Locate your “Editor Data” folder
Go to your Documents folder (not your Steam directory):

Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 26\editor data

If it doesn’t exist, create it manually - name it exactly:

📁 editor data

Step 5 – Copy the .fmf files
Open the editor data folder from the Real Name Fix download and copy all .fmf files into your own editor data folder.

Example:

...\Football Manager 26\

📁 editor data
   📄 FM26 Sortitoutsi Licenses Fix - Ajax staff.fmf

   📄 FM26 Sortitoutsi Licenses Fix - Bookmakers.fmf

📄 FM26 Sortitoutsi Licenses Fix - Brazilian kit colour changes.fmf

   📄 FM26 Sortitoutsi Licenses Fix - Club Name Changes.fmf

   📄 config.xml

Step 6 – Launch Football Manager 26

  • New save: all real names appear instantly.
  • Existing save: most competition and award names update, but club names usually need a new save.

Step 7 – Enable the files
When starting a new career:

  1. Start New Game → Career → Advanced Setup
  2. Database → Editor Data Files → tick all desired fixes
  3. Confirm and begin your career.

Step 8 – Finish setup
Choose your leagues, database size, and begin your save.

⚠️ Editor Data Files only apply to new saves - they can’t alter existing careers.

🎉 DONE!

Your Football Manager 26 should now display:

  • ✅ Real club & competition names
  • ✅ Authentic stadiums & awards
  • ✅ Proper national team selections (e.g., real German players)

💡 Extra Tips

  • Always back up your original dbc, edt, and lnc folders before deleting them.
  • If a future FM26 patch adds a new database (e.g. 2610), repeat the same process in that new folder.
  • Community updates to the Real Name Fix appear regularly - re-download and re-install after each major patch.

🍏 FOR MAC (Steam / Epic)

Step 1 – Locate your database folder
Here’s how to do it on Mac:

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Press Command + Shift + G to bring up “Go to Folder.”
  3. Copy and paste this path, then hit Enter:

Steam:
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 26/fm.app/Contents/PlugIns/game_plugin.bundle/Contents/Resources/shared/data/database/db/2600

Epic:
~/Library/Application Support/Epic/FootballManager26/fm.app/Contents/PlugIns/game_plugin.bundle/Contents/Resources/shared/data/database/db/2600

If you see 2610, 2620, or higher, use the newest folder.

Step 2 – Delete the old folders
Inside that folder, delete:

dbc
edt
lnc

Only those three - leave everything else untouched.

Step 3 – Copy the new folders
From the extracted Real Name Fix, copy dbc, edt, and lnc into the same 2600 (or latest) folder.

Step 4 – Locate your Editor Data folder

~/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 26/editor data

You can reach it quickly by pressing
⌘ + Shift + G in Finder and pasting the path above.
Create the folder manually if it doesn’t exist.

Step 5 – Copy the .fmf files
Copy all .fmf files from the downloaded editor data folder into your local one.

🐧 FOR STEAM DECK

Step 1 – Locate your database folder
On Steam Deck, FM26 is installed via Steam. Navigate to the database folder:

~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 26/data/database/db/2600

Use the highest number folder if you see multiple versions (e.g., 2610, 2620).

Step 2 – Delete the old folders
Inside the database folder, remove only:

dbc
edt
lnc

Step 3 – Copy the new folders
Copy the dbc, edt, and lnc folders from the extracted Real Name Fix into the same folder.

Step 4 – Locate your Editor Data folder
Steam Deck editor data path:

~/.local/share/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 26/editor data

Create the editor data folder if it does not exist.

Step 5 – Copy the .fmf files
Copy all .fmf files from the downloaded editor data folder into this path.

@mons Can you update the installation instructions to include how to add the editor data folder for macOS?

Follow these steps to correctly place the editor data folder for Football Manager 26 on macOS.

1. Open Finder.

2. Press Command (⌘) + Shift + G to open the Go to Folder window.

3. Copy and paste the following path, then press Enter:

~/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 26/

4. If you don’t see an editor data folder, create one manually.

The folder name must be exactly:

editor data

(all lowercase, with a space)

5. Make sure the editor data folder is inside the Football Manager 26 directory. Not in Documents, Public, or anywhere else.

6. Place the downloaded .fmf files (for example, from the Real Name Fix or other mods) into this editor data folder.

7. Restart Football Manager 26, and when starting a new game, ensure the files are ticked/selected under Database → Editor Data Files.

Sure thing, it is for a new career indeed:

You put the editor data folder is in the wrong place, move it to the correct location below:

/Users/iacopo/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 26/editor data

Make sure the folder name is exactly editor data (all lowercase, with a space) and that it sits inside the Football Manager 26 directory. Not in Documents, Public or elsewhere.

I just checked out the FM26 Editor and noticed that the default database doesn’t come with any updates. The dbc, edt, and lnc files for the Football Manager 26 Editor database version 2600 are located here:

Windows:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Football Manager 26 Editor\shared\data\database\db\2600

Mac:

~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 26 Editor/shared/data/database/db/2600

If you plan to replace them with updated files, don’t forget to back up your original dbc, edt, and lnc folders first. That way, you can always restore the default database if anything goes wrong.

I keep getting an error when updates apply on Mac- fm” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Bin.

Does anyone know the fix for this as it has happened a few times and needed to reinstall?

Looked online and there isn't any fix that seems to have worked (or I've not done it right)

Here’s a short guide to fix the “fm is damaged and can’t be opened” message on your Mac:
1. Go to Apple menu  → System Settings → Privacy & Security.
2. Scroll down to the Security section.
3. You’ll see a message saying “‘fm’ was blocked to protect your Mac.”
4. Click “Open Anyway.”
5. When prompted, click Open, then enter your administrator username and password to allow it.

@mons

The equivalent folder for Mac players on Epic Games was listed incorrectly.

Correct location:
~/Library/Application Support/Epic/FootballManager2026/fm.app/Contents/PlugIns/game_plugin.bundle/Contents/Resources/shared/data/database/db/2600

Does any one know what the below means?

You have to click ,,show packaged contents'' on the fm.app and also on the game_plugin.bundle

I'm trying to do this for Mac but I've no idea what the above means

When someone says “click Show Package Contents,” it just means you need to right-click (or Control + click) on fm.app (or game_plugin.bundle) and choose Show Package Contents that lets you open up the folders inside the app icon.

Here’s how to do it on Mac:
1. Open Finder.
2. Press Command + Shift + G to bring up “Go to Folder.”
3. Copy and paste this path, then hit Enter:

~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 26/fm.app/Contents/PlugIns/game_plugin.bundle/Contents/Resources/shared/data/database/db/2600

Once you’re in that db/2600 folder, that’s where you drop the real name fix files and don’t forget to restart FM afterwards so the changes take effect.

If you’re not using Steam:
Epic Games version:

~/Library/Application Support/Epic/FootballManager2026/fm.app/Contents/PlugIns/game_plugin.bundle/Contents/Resources/shared/data/database/db/2600

I downloaded the 2026.00 megapack and ran all the images through PNGQuant with 256 colours and metadata removed.

Everything worked fine except for these two images, which couldn’t be encoded:

• 13231846.png https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics/browse/1/1141012/timeline
• 13153854.png https://sortitoutsi.net/graphics/browse/1/175550/timeline

Just thought I’d give a heads-up in case it’s useful.

Cheers!
