Anyone reckon Spain will be a block to a potentially independent Scotland? They don't recognise Kosovo and apparently they're worried that if Scotland were to declare independence via a referendum, and they could try to block Scottish membership of the European Union to prevent Catalonia from attempting such a move.

Aye, the 'Youth Contract' scheme puts 'neet' under-25s into employment and gives incentives to businesses, usually small local places like bars, hotels and restaurants, but occasionally larger chains join as well. Suppose it's better than Workfare, where the claimant won't really 'value' their experience and will still be a burden on the state's finances.

I can't really do that because I'm 18 and I have no retail experience, which is expected. They know that while I'd be more competent than a 16-year-old, they'd need to pay me more money and I'd probably demand more hours.

Cheers. The problem with JSA is that there is so much contradictory information out there, and the online benefits adviser doesn't work properly as you can't give enough information. It looks that I'll be able to work under 16 hours a week and my income will be topped-up to £56 a week, so there's still the incentive to find a job.

The problem for me is that I'm on Youth Contract which is a bit different - basically geared to more vocational sort of jobs, which is wholly inappropriate for me given that I'm going to uni in September. And everything has just been reformed, so a lot of the info online is out-of-date.

I've been on Jobseekers since the beginning of November and on Tuesday, I'll be getting paid my second payment (week one (£56) + additional two weeks (£112)). However, I've just had an interview invitation for a job at my local village shop. The thing is, the job is only 5 hours a week on minimum wage, adding up to nearly £25 a week (JSA is £56 a week), given that minimum wage for 18-21 is £4.98/hour.

Am I allowed to continue claiming JSA to supplement my weekly income up to £56 - ie, £31 - or do I have to come off benefits completely? It'll be a pain to have such a huge reduction in my weekly income given that I pay £10 a week 'rent', £10 a week for university payments (residency deposit) and at least £5 on food and drink. The only real advantage of this job, over than retail experience, is that I'll be working in my village so I won't have to pay money to the bastards who run our public transport system.

I'm also worried that if I turn the job down, I'll lose my benefits anyway. Or does a 'job offer' have to be 16 hours a week?

What's the best sites to use to stream Sky Sports - obviously without a subscription? I remember using a site that was posted here before, but the forums have been wiped since.

I love Tropico Used to spend hours on the original, I got 3 but didn't bother with 4. The humour is what makes it so enjoyable. That and randomly eliminating my political enemies.

He shouldn't have hired him in the first place, tbh. No idea who he'll get. Probably Guardiola, but maybe someone else.

Well, unions have been effectively neutered in the UK since the 1970s, so I couldn't imagine collective bargaining setting minimum wage having that much effect, except for maybe in the public sector. Then again, I like how the living wage proposes an extra pound an hour for those living in London.

Isn't Sweden renowned for its egalitarian and social democratic laws and welfare state?

Not that Franck would agree it, being classical liberal.

No idea, really. Does Ireland have a different school-leaving age? I know a lot of people who lost their jobs around their 18th birthday when they suddenly required more for minimum wage, which must be a pain in the ass. It'd be technically illegal for an employer to discriminate against an 18-year-old in favour of a 16/17-year-old, but I bet it happens.

I know what you mean, yeah. Minimum wage for 16-17 is something like £3.50 an hour as well, and while most in High Street chains don't get paid that low, it's often little over it anyway. My problem is that I live quite far away from any proper chains, so it's not as if I can come into work on short-notice as well. I'll find something though, eventually. If I could fastforward time to September 2013 and just start uni again (with unfucked accommodation), I would.

I hate how most of my mates think it's shit. They're too hard to convince.

I'm signing on this Thursday, I'll ask then. I'll check employment agencies, but I'm not aware of who they are and what they can do. Again, I'll ask on Thursday. It's so annoying that I can't get a Christmas temp job because I have no retail experience, yet they hire thick-as-shit 16-year-old girls from college.

Going to start volunteering at a charity shop. May as well, hate not having anything to do. It'll cost me so much on JSA though for transport, considering I'm paying £15 as rent to my mother, £15 on savings for uni, and a weekly bus ticket is £20, £10 left for my phone and food. I'm not allowed to get any kind of transport or lunch expenses because that counts as 'compensation' for the work I do, so I'd have to quit my benefits.

If only I wasn't totally unemployable.
