With the exception of the winners and perhaps the losing finalists (trip to Wembley and everything), does anyone really care?

Well I would if we were still in League Two. But now as a league one side we can only lose. We had a miserable start to the season so I wouldn't bet on us beating any League One side for fun and losing to League Two sides is annoying in any competition so the sooner we're out of and can focus on the league the better

Apparently we're signing Ricardo Vaz Te (who's been training with us for some time) and another defender (could be El-Abd) before the window closes.

Also, Danny Mayor has been linked with a move to Leeds. Rösler was at Gigg on Tuesday so could be true. Whether Leeds put in a decent offer that remains to be seen, but I hope we don't sell him personally.

NEGATIVES: We didn't sign anyone

POSITIVES: We didn't sell anyone

So I expect Flitcroft to hit the loan market and the ice bath tub really hard in the next weeks

oh, and beat Accy away 2-1 in the JPT but I couldn't give a toss about that competition

Drew 1-1. Hardly a classic and Oldham should have buried it just before we equalised but yeah. Oldham fans fighting the police and themselves was the actual event for the day. You gotta love these mongs

I wonder how the guys from the tellybox keep on doing this? How do they keep on picking the most dull and least entertaining matches and put them on TV? That was bloody awful. Both sides way out of depth and frankly I'd suggest both these sides will be heavily flirting with the drop zone throughout the season based on tonight's performance.

Given how Bowyer was already under pressure, surely he won't be in the job for much longer, neither will popcorn teeth Lenny

Lost 1-4 versus Leicester. Cannot complain about the performance though. Gave it a real ago especially in the second half where came back from 0-2 to make it 1-2 and had a goal ruled out for offside but in the end the better team won 4-1. Their young debutant Dodoo was fantastic and so was their midfield powerhouse N'Golo Kanté. Only downside is that I'd loved to play West Ham but didn't make it. But league has always been the priority so no hard feelings

We're (Sheffield United) being linked to signing Nathan Cameron from Bury.

Anyone know if he's any good?

Heard nothing down our end. Where is that supposed to be from?

Lost 3-4 to Fleetwood tonight in an entertaining match. You may expect me to have a go at Flicker for naive tactics or getting wrong people in or whatever. But no, I pretty much think this is a bit of a learning curve for all of our defenders. This back four (bar Peter Clarke) won us promotion last season, so it's obvious the talent is there, we just need to adapt to the pace and trickery of League One and we should be fine. This will need time and I'm aware of that, I for one just hope that it does click at one point because with Leon Clarke we certainly have someone in who gets us the goals to do well in this league!

The draw is a fucking joke, the "unseeded" teams were already pre drawn, so knew if they were going to be home or away before the first ball was drawn out of the televised draw.. Seeding was based on the last seasons league positions of the teams that played in round two last year, what ab absolute load of shite.

Teams who lost in the 2nd round last season being seeded and the League Cup Semi Finalists (Sheffield United) unseeded. Ridicolous.

Yeah was also mildly "surprised" how they could fuck it up that much. Quite an achievement really.

Anyway, since we're still in it, it's Leicester at home for us. Quite a good draw I reckon. Hopefully attracts a decent crowd and with Leicester probably not fielding a full strength squad an upset might be possible if we have a brilliant day and they have a stinker.

Think Portsmouth played well. Paul Cook defo got a decent side together and some cracking young lads like the one who came on as a sub who scored the winner or number 38 who impressed me at left back. Derby played poor to be honest but full marks to Pompey where I found McGurk and Bennett impressive aswell.

Nice win at Wigan tonight. Think they were the better for most of the game but we didn't switch off after the goal and came back really well. Peter Clarke gave away our pen (he wouldn't need to if our midfield had stopped the Wigan player earlier on) but yet was my MOTM as his distribution, his bottle and experience is improving us on so many levels and will be vital for us this season. Seriously developing a man crush on Leon Clarke too! All in all very pleased with how things are falling into place

Drew 1-1 at Doncaster in a game we should have won. Hit the post twice, Stuckmann made terrific saves, Doncaster got nothing on target. A bizarre ending to say the least. Fair play to Donny though to allow us getting the equalizer.

I went to the Bury v Rovers friendly actually, forgot to mention on here. Sat in the main stand because I sat in the away end for the friendly last summer (also 1-1, incidentally) and could barely see a thing!

Classic

Tbf I've never been to the main stand for a game but heard this one several times. Some things do never change...

We've been impressive in pre season. Played two Championship sides in Blackburn and Preston recently. Drew 1-1 with Rovers and won 3-2 against PNE coming back from being 1-2 down. Leon Clarke has been sharp and even Tom Pope looked good in the games I've seen him play. The new goalie we brought in looks very good aswell, very good at commanding the box, has good reflexes and looks a good keeper for his age. Plenty of question marks regarding the defence though. As it stands we only have two match fit defenders in Peter Clarke and Nathan Cameron right now and that's about it. Keil O'Brien is still carrying around an injury from last season and apart from that we're a bit light there. We had Reece Brown (former Man United and Barnsley) on trial but doesn't look like he'll sign although Flitcroft said we're trying to bring in numbers.

However, I'm looking forward to the new season, I really do. I don't think we're going to set the league alight but I don't think we're going to be some sort of cannon fodder either so very exiting times ahead.

Have you not got Kirkland on trial, or was that just a load of nonsense?

We actually had. Was at our training camp in Tenerife, so very surprised we didn't go for him. Guess wages played a role in that becuase he's more than capable at L1 level

Signed England Under-20 goalkeeper Christian Walton on loan till the end of the season. Not the ideal solution imo. Walton may be talented and all that but I don't really think a short term fix for long term problem will do us much good. But of course, Flickers got promotion last season so I trust him to do the right things and i'm sure he has plan for our GK situation

Stewart Downing to Boro

The biggest bit of Football League transfer business this summer done and dusted. We can all go home now. It didn't exactly come as a shock, but it shows what this division is like when a side can spend £7m on a player of that quality. I'm looking forward to seeing him in action, provided we turn Boro over on the day in November!

For us, it looks like we've signed Jordi Hiwula from Manchester City. Where's our resident Walsall fan? I need to know about him! (Such as how to pronounce his name.)

Don't really count as a Saddler but Hiwula is a good player though. Not sure whether he is Championship material yet but looked very lively from what I've seen and heard of him. Played as a striker first I think, started off well but his form dipped and lost his place but was put on the wing then and showed some really good performances iirc.

You can listen to how he is pronounced here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htgTU5Amue8

Signed Danny Pugh on a 12-month-deal. Not the youngest of all players anymore but a decent left peg and if he stays fit he should be a decent squad player.

Still no news of a new goalkeeper yet though, either we're taking a gamble on Lainton or we're looking at a larger pool of keepers available

Jacob Mellis signed and sealed. Having read mixed opinions on him, I'll judge him when he has kicked a ball first. But it's good to see we're still being proactive on the market.

Only other signing so far is Brad Potts (so close!) from Carlisle United, any fans here who can shed some light on the type of player he is? I'm guessing that's insider knowledge from MacDonald's time there!

Good player him. IF motivated. Played brilliant for Carlisle first half of last season but as soon as there was transfer talk involved his form dropped so I highly doubt whether he has the right attitude or not. Can play in the middle of the park but also at Left back or Left mid or as right back or right mid. Very agile and good on the ball but as said, his attitude and workrate are concerns.

Rumours about that we're about to sign David Ball on a two year deal, after his Fleetwood contract expired.

Good striker. Liked him at P'boro. Don't quite know what happened to him since then but in an attacking system he'll get you goals

We've signed Marley Watkins from Inverness. Looking forward to seeing this lad at Oakwell.

Good signing is Clarke, but a three-year deal? Crazy.

Inevitable that you'll sign Paddy McCourt. Possibly the most skillful player I've ever seen at Oakwell. The problem is, he'll only do it for a couple of minutes a game, and the rest of the time he'll stand with his hands on his hips. Similar story to Mellis. All the ability, none of the application. Bone idle. Also, please sign Pope so we don't end up with him!

Probably taking a bit of a gamble with Clarke. Perhaps he comes good, then we can sell him on to a Championship side, like it's often been the case in his career.

As for McCourt, he's been on trial here at the start of last season, so Flickers should know what he gets. Wasn't bothered coming here when we were n League Two, so I don't think he should sign him now and give him another chance. As for Mellis, can't really comment on him but I believe he is not that kind of midfielder we really need. Also, we rarely sign players we're actually linked with. Both, Peter and Leon Clarke, came out of nowhere so I hpe Flickers still has something else up his sleeve

I await you signing Nathan Clarke and Tom Clarke at this rate

Always had time for Leon Clarke, honest pro. You seem to be putting a cracking squad together for a side newly promoted from League Two.

Yeah, he's honest but also a bit a of a moody guy. Just hope he can keep his temper and keep his focus on footballing matters.

But I agree, we#re getting a good squad together. Very good to see our board is not relying on the players we won promotion with but still looking to improve in any area in order to avoid a straight relegation at all costs. Other names being rumoured are Pope (Port Vale), Alessandra (Plymouth), Mellis (Barnsley) and McCourt (Notts), so I hope we're still getting 2 or 3 decent players in to be competitve

We signed Leon Clarke on a three-year deal today. Not too sure what to think about this. Obviously if he's fit he'll score goals. But he never sticks around for a longer period and his injury proneness are putting me a bit off. Still willed to give him a chance though.

McDermott isn't a bad manager - done well with Reading and wasn't awful with Leeds despite horrendous circumstances.

A league 2 club would be lucky to have him, imo.

Given the above points you mentioned I'd highly doubt he'd join a League Two club. Given his previous success as manager I'd imagine he ain't that cheap too
