GIANLUIGI DONNARUMMA: Liverpool shot stopper suffers fractured arm
21 October 2016 | Football
Liverpool Football Club have been rocked with the news that Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been ruled out for up to four weeks
The seventeen year old shot stopper suffered a fractured arm in training and on the eve of Liverpool's trip to Swansea tomorrow afternoon. Donnarumma will be out for at least a month
It's a massive blow for Liverpool as the youngster has been in excellent form between the sticks for the Reds this season - keeping five clean sheets from his first eight games. Belgian Simon Mignolet is expected to replace him
"I can confirm that (Gianluigi) has suffered a fractured arm in training" Owen told Liverpool's official website "it's a massive blow as the Italian has been in scintillating form for us this campaign
"(Simon) will replace him, he's more experienced and will given a chance to prove himself this season"

Liverpool's, as per the norm, is Philippe Coutinho who has been dangerous from the left winger while Hakim Ziyech on the right can also be a danger and he's the one that won Liverpool a penalty at Middlesbrough on Monday night. Daniel Sturridge will be hoping to have a better game.

Liverpool secured maximum points at The Riverside Stadium as Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho and substitute Hamik Ziyech were on target
Although the Reds dominated large periods of this Premier League fixture, Middlesbrough were always dangerous on the attack and got perhaps a deserved consolation goal through Josep Sene with six minutes remaining. Liverpool had thirteen attempts on target to Boro's six.
It took the visitors thirty two minutes to break the deadlock when a Philippe Coutinho throw in found Roberto Firmino who cut the ball back to England international Jordan Henderson who rifiled the ball home - three minutes later Coutinho tapped home from close range, getting on the end of a Nathaniel Clyne cross.
With six minutes remaining, a long ball pumped into the box saw Middlesbrough pull a goal back through Josep Sene but just a minute later Hamik Ziyech slotted home a spot kick after he was fouled.
It turned out to be another quiet game for Daniel Sturridge as he failed to find the net, the Englishman was subbed off with just under an hour played, replaced by Danny Ings. Speaking of strikers, Middlesbrough's Christian Stuani failed to score for the eighth Premier League game this season out of eight.

EMRE CAN: Injury rules out German midfielder
17 October 2016 | Football
Emre Can has been ruled out for up to four weeks because of injury.
Can, a £9.75 million signing from Bayer Leverkusen three seasons ago has suffered a sports hernia which has ruled him out, James Milner is rumoured to have taken his place amongst the Liverpool substitutes for tonight's game at Middlesbrough
The twenty two year old Germany international has been in decent form for the Reds this season, making four appearances and getting one assist although he's yet to find the net this season - Can remained optimistic about getting back into the Liverpool team whenever he returns from injury.
"I'm confident enough I'll be able to reclaim my place in Liverpool's first team" Can told BBC Sport "of course I'm not expecting it to be immediately, not at all, I realise I'm going to need to work hard and get my fitness up to scratch before I even consider being selected again."
"Unfortunately (Emre) picked up an injury which has ruled him out of tonight's game at Middlesbrough" Owen also told BBC Sport "it's a devastating blow for the club as he's been in decent enough form this season and although I had planned on resting him tonight, it's still a kick in the shins.
"We'll need to get on with things and concentrate on what's going to be a tough match tonight."

ADAM BOGDAN: Shot stopper to leave club at end of the season
2 October 2016 | Football
Hungarian goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, 29, is to leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires
The shot stopper signed on a free transfer from Championship side Bolton Wanderers but only made three appearances last season and has yet to feature for the first team this time around and that's unlikely to change
In the space of a few weeks it's been reported that he's complained about first team football at the club and with Gianluigi Donnarumma is such excellent form and Simon Mignolet as back-up, it's almost certain the Hungarian won't get game time
"I can confirm that he (Adam Bogdan) will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June next year" Michael Owen told Liverpool's official website "Adam came to me about wanting first team football at the club and because I couldn't guarantee it he threw his toys out of the pram.
"He won't be anywhere near the first team scene and has been demoted to the Under 18's with immediate effect as punishment."
Meanwhile centre midfielder Lucas Leiva is another player wanting out of the club due to a lack of first team football. The twenty nine year old Brazilian signed around nine years ago from Brazilian club Gremio and has three goals in English football. Lucas made around twelve league appearances last season but with Jordan Henderson and Emre Can being in excellent form, Lucas hasn't been able to break through.
AC Milan are interested in Lucas' services but it's believed they won't match Liverpool's £20m asking price for his services.
Young striker Jack Dunn has joined League 1's Plymouth on loan for a month.

An Erik Pieters goal, a minute from time, gave Stoke City an undeserved draw at Anfield
And the hosts Liverpool will look back at a series of missed chances to pull the game away from the Potters as they dominated at Anfield but couldn't take more than the Philippe Coutinho goal early in the second half. Liverpool had 35 shots at Anfield with 10 of them being on target but just the one goal to show for their efforts. Erik Pieters' equaliser for Stoke silenced the crowd.
Stoke scored with their only shot on target on Merseyside.
It would be Liverpool that broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second period when a cross-come-shot from Lazar Markovic was parried away from goal but only into the path of Philippe Coutinho and the Brazilian international side footed the ball into the net. The visitors levelled when Erik Pieters got on the end of an excellent Stoke counter attack - both of Stoke's substitutes combined as Geoff Cameron's long ball found Pablo Sarabia who played an excellent cross ball to the former Barcelona star Bojan and his cross was volleyed in expertly by Pieters.
Just like the previous game against West Bromwich Albion, Belgian striker Christian Benteke was anonymous and was substituted for Danny Ings on fifty eight minutes but the former Burnley man couldn't make an impact against a subborn Stoke side.
The draw for Liverpool means 'rivals' Manchester United can move to the summit of the Premier League if they can pick up maximum points away to Cardiff on Sunday.
Liverpool: Donnarumma, Clyne, Matip, Sakho, Moreno, Can, Henderson, Markovic (Milner 89), Lallana (Firmino 72), Coutinho, Benteke (Ings 58)
Subs not used: Mignolet, Lovern, Zivech, Smith
Yellow cards: Alberto Moreno, Jordan Henderson
Goals: Philippe Coutinho (53)
Stoke City: Stankovic, Jenkinson, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Pieters, Vazquez (Arnautovic 61), Imbula, Kasami (Cameron 67), Afellay, Bojan, Joselu (Sarabia 61)
Subs not used: Martinez, Mensah, Vigen Christensen, Zukanovic
Goals: Erik Pieters (89)

MATCH PREVIEW: Liverpool v Stoke City
30 September 2016 | Football
Date: Saturday, 1 October 2016
Venue: Anfield, Liverpool
Competition: Premier League
Kickoff: 15:00 GMT
Liverpool are expected to make three changes from the side that beat West Bromwich Albion in their last game - Daniel Sturridge (calf strain) is definitely out for the Reds with Christian Benteke expected to deputise while Mamadou Sakho and Adam Lallana come in for Dejan Lovern and Roberto Firmino who both drop to the bench.
Mame Diouf (groin strain) will miss the trip to Anfield but expected to be back within a week, apart from him, Stoke have a full squad to choose from.
Squads:
Liverpool squad: Mignolet, Donnarumma, Lovern, Sakho, Matip, Can, Clyne, Smith, Moreno, Markovic, Milner, Henderson, Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino, Ziyech, Benteke, Ings
Stoke City squad: Martinez, Stankovic, Jenkinson, Cameron, Zukanovic, Pieters, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Mensah, Imbula, Kasami, Sarabia, Vigen Christensen, Bazquez, Arnautovic, Afellay, Bojan, Joselu
Last season:
Liverpool failed to beat Mark Hughes' Stoke City side last season, drawing at Anfield and then losing at The Britannia. First up was the game on Merseyside and despite goals from James Milner and Roberto Firmino giving Liverpool a two goal lead inside the opening half an hour - Giannelli Imbula and Joselu struck to give City a share of the spoils.
The game at Stoke proved to be a difficult one as Ryan Shawcross' fifty fourth minute goal gave the Potters all the points.
Danger men:
With Roberto Firmino dropped to the substitutes bench, Liverpool will be expecting big things from their left winger Philippe Countino while Christian Benteke will want to prove his worth to Michael Owen whose starting him for the second consecutive game in place of Daniel Sturridge who unfortunately picked up an injury.
For Stoke though, they'll be expecting things from their wingers (Lucas Vazquex and Ibrahim Afellay) and striker (Joselu) if they're to get anything from Anfield.

DANIEL STURRIDGE: Liverpool striker picks up injury
30 September 2016 | Football
Liverpool's in form striker Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out for up to three weeks
The twenty seven year old front man, who has scored five goals in six Premier League appearances this season suffered a calf strain will miss tomorrow's Premier League game at home to Stoke City, but that's the only game he'll thankfully miss as there's an international break afterwards.
It's believed Christian Benteke is expected to deputise for tomorrow's game at Anfield against Stoke but Michael Owen wouldn't say one way or another.
"I'm not going to state whether he (Christian) will start tomorrow's game against Stoke" Owen told BBC Sport "we've got an abundance of talent up top and it wouldn't be fair to say who'll start the game tomorrow without telling the player himself first.
"Other than (Christian) we have got three other strikers who could start tomorrow's game - we have Danny (Ings) and Divock (Origi) who would be like for like replacements for the injured Daniel (Sturridge) while Mario (Balotelli) could also make a rare appearance for the club.
"Regardless of who we select, Stoke are going to be tough opposition regardless of were they're placed currently in the table."

Goals from Lazar Markovic and substitute Daniel Sturridge gave Liverpool a deserved 2-0 win at The Hawthorns against an abject West Bromwich Albion side
And indeed the Baggies rarely threatened the Liverpool goal despite being the home team, having just seven shots on goal with three of them being on target while the visitors dominated the game and had eleven shots on target and thirty three overall - scoring two goals in the process.
Christian Benteke made his first Liverpool appearance of the season but couldn't get into the game and was substituted for England international Daniel Sturridge after fifty three minutes, Roberto Firmino also played extremely poorly and was also substituted at the same time.
It took the visiting Reds thirty six minutes to break the deadlock when Lazar Markovic headed home an Alberto Moreno cross from close range and then the opening goal scorer turned assist when his low cross was turned home at the second attempt by Daniel Sturridge to all but seal the points.
It was another game to remember for Liverpool's young shot stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma who was able to keep a fifth Premier League clean sheet from Liverpool's opening six games and the seventeen year old is only going to get better and better with experience, the £17m Liverpool paid A.C. Milan is starting like a steal early on.
West Bromwich Albion: Foster, Dawson, Olsson, Evans, Daniels, Colback, Fletcher, Morrison (Baker 61), Beauvue (Rotariu 61), Brunt, Rondon (Lambert 65)
Subs not used: Myhill, Kelly, Gardner, Bollesen
Liverpool: Donnarumma, Clyne, Matip, Lovern, Moreno, Can (Milner 77), Henderson, Markovic, Firmino (Ziyech 53), Coutinho, Benteke (Sturridge 53)
Subs not used: Mignolet, Sakho, Ibe, Smith
Goals: Lazer Markovic (36), Daniel Sturridge (66)
Man of the Match: Alberto Moreno 8.5

MATCH PREVIEW: West Bromwich Albion v Liverpool
23 September 2016 | Football
Date: Saturday, 24 September 2016
Venue: The Hawthorns, West Bromwich
Competition: Premier League
Kickoff: 15:00 GMT
Former Manchester United shot stopper Andres Lindegaard will miss Saturday's game against Liverpool as he's not been registered to play in the Premier League, Ben Foster is expected to replace him in goal while Max Gradel (broken arm) will also miss the game but Dorin Rotariu (stubbed toe) is expected to be at least fit enough for a place amongst the substitutes.
Liverpool will give striker Christian Benteke his first appearance of the season and will replace Danny Ings and Lazar Markovic, who scored in the midweek League Cup win over Bolton, retains his place. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and midfielder Jordan Henderson are to come back into the starting eleven in place of Simon Mignolet and James Milner.
Squads:
West Bromwich Albion squad: Myhill, Foster, Gardner, Kelly, Dawson, Colback, Olsson, Evans, Daniels, Bollesen, Brunt, Fletcher, Baker, Morrison, Beauvue, Rotariu, Lambert, Rondon
Liverpool squad: Mignolet, Donnarumma, Lovern, Sakho, Matip, Can, Clyne, Smith, Moreno, Markovic, Milner, Henderson, Ibe, Coutinho, Firmino, Ziyech, Sturridge, Benteke
Last season:
Liverpool done the double over the Baggies last season, winning both games 3-0 which saw Liverpool take their chances in two tough games. Darren Fletcher was dismissed at the Hawthornes, four minutes after Emre Can had given Liverpool a twentieth minute lead before second half goals from Philippe Coutinho and Danny Ings sealed the points.
Goals from Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke scored inside the opening fifteen minutes at Anfield to give Liverpool control in the reverse fixture, Hakim Ziyech's goal on sixty seven minutes sealed the points.
Danger men:
Mid-table West Bromwich Albion will be looking at Venezuelan international Solomon Rondon to score his first Premier League goal of the season while Baggies full back and former Liverpool player Martin Kelly will be looking for an impressive performance against his former side, if he's selected.
Liverpool will be relying on the brute strength of Christian Benteke as the Belgian will be making his first appearance of the season while once again both wingers (Lazar Markovic and Philippe Coutinho) could also prove to be a crucial part and Roberto Firmino will be looking to get on the score sheet more regular.
