#159756 Barclays Premier League 2013/14

Pretty much.
The midfield more or less picks itself; Lampard, Mikel, Matic, Salah. With Van Ginkel maybe making his return with some minutes from the bench. Upfront it will most likely be one of Torres or Ba, given that Eto'o will probably start the second leg against Atletico. The defence seems the most likely area where some change will be had.
Will still be a decent starting eleven, just not our strongest.

I doubt it.
It's purely down to the fact the FA offer no help to any of the English clubs in their big European games, unlike in Spain etc. Atletico and Real both were able to change their weekend fixtures to allow them to be ready for the first leg. Atletico opted to play their match on the Friday, while Real opted to not play at all. Because of the FA's lack of co-operation in doing similar, naturally Mourinho will look to rest players if he believes the CL is a more important fixture and one they're more likely to win- and rightly so.
I think you'll find those who are ineligible/suspended for the 2nd leg vs Atletico will play against Liverpool, alongside some possible fringe players. He'll possibly rest a few key players and that may mean a couple of younger players come in. I don't see it being anything more than that. Won't be an entire "second eleven" played.

"Clearly coveted"
I think you'll find that any interest Mourinho had in coaching Man Utd was largely fictional creation of the press. I'm not too sure on how many press conferences you've seen, but he's expressed from his own mouth that Chelsea was it. That's not to say he didn't have a desire in the past, but that will have been long gone now.
Man Utd are going to need to take their time and make sure they get the right person and personality that the squad needs. Another Moyes situation and it could be very difficult times ahead.

I'll raise you two
Don't try and tell me what I apparently watch and don't watch. I've seen with my own eyes that Mata exposes the fullback with his defensive weakness. If he is lined up on the left and mainly plays inside, the issue still remains. His defensive weakness is also shown through the middle, the difference is that it's not as damaging because of the midfield cover behind him. Either way, it's a matter we're ever going to see eye-to-eye on. So I'm leaving it at that.
I am well aware of how good Mata is, I've never doubted his ability. He's an exquisite player, going forward. Oscar's dip in form has zero to do with Mata either, I guess that goes to show just how little you watch Chelsea...
His form has dipped because he's basically played every game for club and country which started back at the 2012 London Olympics, he featured in nearly all of the 69 games Chelsea played last season and then played the 2013 Confederations Cup as well. Throw in a pre-season and even more games, there's no wonder his form has taken such a huge decline. Not to mention he's still only 22. But hey, you would have known all this already, right?
Not that it really matters because it actually has zero to do with the topic on hand and will be left at that.

I thought we defended brilliantly when required and Atletico didn't really seem to trouble us too much. Torres and Willian worked hard up front, with Torres a few times making a decent solo run or two into attacking positions. Disappointing to see Cech injured and subsequently now out for the season, which is a blow. Hopefully Terry recovers quickly also, which is touch and go it seems.
All in all, a clean sheet and we're well positioned for the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

What about that Herrera lad? Pretty sure he was one of the other main central targets Moyes had.

He signed Fellaini as a complete panic buy after missing out on his other central targets. Had he actually wanted Fellaini to begin with he'd have signed him at the beginning of the summer, when he could have been purchased at a fraction of the cost that ended up being paid.

Complete cack I'm afraid. Maybe in bursts theres been improved performances when both have played but it isn't anything that's going to last. It's also entirely irrelevant at the end of the day either and doesn't cover up the fact he spunked £37m on a player who plays his best football through the middle, only to play him wide more often than not. It made even less sense to spend that much on a player completely unrequired when you have a freshly re-signed 300k p/w forward who also plays his best football in the exact same position, while also having a largely underused talent in Kagawa for the role also. All it did was create a far greater headache because he left him with the task of trying to fit as many of Rooney, RvP, Mata, Kagawa and Januzaj into the same side as he could.
As I mentioned ages ago, and has shown to the the case in a couple of the latter games United have played. Mata out wide exposes the fullback because of the complete lack of defensive qualities he offers. It's compounded even more when that left back is one that has had his own performance levels dip as well.
At the end of the day a lot of that rests on Moyes' shoulders and showcased just how out of his depth he was.

Basically this. I'll be very disappointed if Conte left Juve to become United manager, particularly if the issue is purely down to transfer funds.
As for Moyes, he largely shot himself in the foot. Panicked in the transfer market, chased players he had no real chance of signing and then had to settle for overpaid scraps. Then spent stupid money on Mata, while an excellent player, wasn't at all what United needed and subsequently plays him out of position. Throw in his cautious approach, massive upheaval of the back room staff, training methods, fractious relationships with players and failing to begin his rebuild in the summer.
United are going to need to make the right decision this time around, another dud and it could take years to recover. They're already going to behind the 8-ball as it stands.

They've all peaked, that's been their biggest benefit this season. When you have two strikers scoring as both Suarez and Sturridge are doing then you're going to be in with a good shout. I guess the biggest question will be how they go next season and if it can be backed up, which I doubt.

This first handball was a clear penalty, the second one wasn't. And in fact, you could even argue that the challenge on Ramires in the box when he had his seemingly free header into an open net could have been considered also. Since there was absolutely no ball contact at all and was basically a shove to put Ramires off, which was successfully done.
#158236 Barclays Premier League 2013/14
.verse
It wasn't even close to a penalty in real time. You could literally park a car in between the gap of the two players. Though Dave shouldn't have gone to ground to begin with. What really fucking shits me is we had a penalty denied for a handball that was clear as day, and he turns around and gives that, fuck off. Dean is an absolute nut sack. He was terrible all game.
Ramires should have been sent, as should have Cattermole. He should have been given a yellow earlier in the game for blatantly kicking the ball away, then the challenge he was booked for later on should have been his second yellow. Altidore should have also been booked for throwing the ball away, again, neither player was spoken to at all and instead with the Altidore situation he has a fucking word with Cahill.
All that fuckery aside, we were awful. Oscar once again was woeful and why he's even selected these days is beyond me, Ramires the same. It was also Dave's worst game for the club, skinned a few times and gave away the ball in some terrible positions, which ultimately resulted in the penalty. We're too reliant on Hazard beating a man to create anything decent. We need to move the ball faster through the midfield and utilise the pace we have out wide more often than we do. We shoot ourselves in the foot slowing the pace of the game down and trying to force the ball through the middle.
That's it for us though I dare say, not unless Liverpool drop points at Norwich and we then beat them. Goal now should be to lock down second place and then progress into CL final.

It's on the front page of the Corriere dello Sport.
Has apparently been studying English for the last few months and will also bring Mauro Tassotti with him.

Hmm strange.
I'm torn on who I'd preference. Obviously, Australia would mean I'm more likely to be a national team regular. But there is more prestige playing for the Azzurri, even if my chances are slimmer.

Will give this a go now. I've tried a few variations without luck thus far so hopefully this one might be a little more solid.

I'm playing in Classic Mode, so all I can tinker with is the training to focus on defending and adjust the intensity. Unless there's an option for set pieces I'm not seeing elsewhere. Will see how it goes though.
Naturally, I'm a newly promoted team with limited resources and rely largely on free transfers. I've got a few decent players who are good enough in the air, but they're still not doing the job required and it's actually killing me presently.
Solid advise as usual fanny.
Your big cunt theory is hard to fault.

I'm managing Sutton Utd and I was giving up a few goals back in the Skrill South but my team was good enough in attack to often snatch a win, or be up comfortably already so the importance wasn't as pressing. Now that I'm in the Skrill Premier and the player quality has increased, with my team naturally being weaker, I've already conceded 10 goals in 6 games, with I'd say 4 or so being from corner kicks. Nothing I seem to adjust changes anything and it's concerning given these points are more precious than ever.

Well these new owners want to rebrand Melbourne Heart also, which is conflicting with one of the state league sides who already hold the name that Heart would be renamed as. I can still see Sydney's issue with that fact that they're basically referred to as "The Sky Blues", due to the clubs colours. Sydney have every right to be somewhat annoyed at what could unfold and cause issues with two sides effectively being dubbed the same, if not similar names, all within the same league. It's stupid.
That said, I'm not really bothered either way since I follow neither side and they are both direct rivals with the Victory.
#156580 The Manchester City Thread
.verse
As much as I dislike Sydney, I can see the issue.
As the article says, Sydney are already known as the "Sky Blues" and their kit represents that also. You then also have Melbourne Victory wearing a dark blue kit as well. To have Melbourne Heart change their own kit to a blue variation and effectively lose the identity they've established thus far in the league would be somewhat disheartening for fans. It's no real different from Hull fans being against renaming their side or Cardiff having their kit changed from blue to red.

And hopefully you'll bottle it and he, and his club, win nothing.
Basically means we need to beat Swansea today, drop points and you can rule us out completely.
#155437 Champions League 2013/14

We're not "picking their team".
It's more do to with the fact that if there is a clause that both clubs agreed upon within the loan contact to begin with then surely that should be upheld?
I'm not really phased either way, just seems stupid if both clubs agree on a particular deal and then it's basically null and void if such a situation was to unfold, with it now having done so.

Apparently appears that UEFA have ruled that Chelsea can't stop Courtios from playing either, even with this apparently £5m cause Atletico would need to pay (which they can't afford to do).
I don't really see how UEFA can make such a call when it's perfectly fine for other players out on loan not being allowed to play against parent clubs.
