Ghana are through to the semi's after beating Guinea 3-0. Something tells me it would have been a more evenly matched contest had Mali won the lottery. Cambridge's Kwesi Appiah with one goal btw.

First quarter finals last night:

Congo 2-4 DR Congo
Tunisia 1-2 Equatorial Guinea a.e.t

Fantastic comeback from DR Congo who were 2-0 behind at the hour mark. Two goals from good 'ol Mbokani.

Pathetic refereeing in the other quarter final as hosts Equatorial Guinea were given a really soft penalty in the 91st minute and Javier Balboa made it 1-1 from the spot. The same man became a national hero nine minutes into the extra time as he bent in a great struck free kick, which also looked soft. Scandalous really.

Tunisia obviously not happy with the ref.

The action continues today with Ghana - Guinea (16.00 GMT) and Ivory Coast - Algeria (19.30).

Busy mercato in Italy this January. Doumbia is apparently on his way to Roma on a loan deal from CSKA.

I was going to say,why didn't they? Even if the other game ended a draw too, could have just made both extra time and pens

I think the same rules apply for tie-break scenarios at the World Cup too. Stupid.

It's been a while but I've played some matches since last time out.

To my big surprise the board are expecting a mid table finish, just as the media has tipped us for a 10th place in our comeback season in Ligue 1. I guess getting money to spend from the board comes with expectations.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/gUCe1f5J25ISzHy43Sz4PNwhbmZUQcLuKWvavwTd.png

And I can't say we lived up to those expectations in the league opener at home to Rennes, which ended in a 0-1 defeat. However the performance on the pitch were promising as we dominated the game and deserved to get at least a point from the game. We should have beat Le Havre, a team we beat twice in Ligue 2 last season, but those early season games as a newly promoted team are never easy. Managing a 1-1 draw away to giants Lyon felt like a win though and proved to be a confident booster as we found form and managed three wins on the trot in the following games. We could have made it four in four away to St. Etienne but despite putting on a brave display for nearly 50 minutes with 10 men, ASSE came out on top with an injury time winner.

What a game! 11 goals!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cPvzwqaeTlXgaScTR3pFxcZaWmbzGTDq4EwNxL3y.png

Easily the greatest achievement of my Auxerre career thus far. Babacar was on fire and netted a hat-trick, and a sweet revenge for Gragnic against his former employer.

Ending the first 10 games of the season with a 1-1 draw at home to PSG wasn't half bad either.

What a start to the season!

It's nothing new but Anderson was never meant to be this ball winning, tough tackling box-to-box midfielder that Fergie obviously wanted him to be tbf. At Porto he played as an attacking midfielder full of pace (yeah, really), dribbles, flair and creativity. That + injuries and the inevitable Brazilian-style fall from grace and the fitness issues that comes with it, has to take the blame for why he never succeeded.

Bad news for Man City as Ivory Coast go through. No Yaya or Bony against Chelsea.

Cameroon were completely toothless infront of goal in the second half, I don't think they even had a single attempt on goal. Mbia was class though and came out on top in the midfield duel against Yaya, who once again had a poor game.

And as always there is something out of the ordinary happening at the Afcon: Guinea and Mali will draw lots tomorrow morning for the last knockout phase place. Imagine the nerves and tension in those camps tonight.

Had Algeria and Mali as favourites to win before the tournament kicked off, so obviously hoping for Mali to hit the jackpot tomorrow. \o/

Live score:

Cameroon 0-0 Ivory Coast
Guinea 1-0 Mali

Seydou Keita just missed a penalty for Mali, minutes after Constant put Guinea ahead from the spot.

Played 20 mins.

Really liked the first series of Broadchurch but as you say s02 has been a huge disappointment. It's almost as if you're beginning to wonder why they even went on to make another season.

Also some of the youth get a training camp with the first team in Abu Dhabi.

Poor Ambrose went full Micah Richards in the space of 2 seconds: Attempted an overhead then got injured

I saw Celina got his 'debut'. How highly is he rated? Just too bad he seem to have chosen Kosovo over Norway on international level.

That's bs. From what I've read he'll be looking at about £1.8M per year to start with.

Algerie in big trouble against South Africa. 1-0 down and South Africa just missed a peno where Algerie were lucky not to have a man sent off. Action!
