Pompey have appointed Joe Jordan as their new manager, with Steve Kember also arriving in an assistant manager role.
Jordan, 61, who has penned a two-year contract, arrives following a 12-month spell at QPR, where he worked as a coach under former Pompey boss Harry Redknapp.
“This is a great opportunity for me,” he said. “I’m very excited to be back at this club with its great history.
“Everyone knows how passionate the people of Portsmouth are about their football club.”
Jordan’s first managerial post was at Bristol City. He was boss from March 1988 to September 1990, for 134 games. During this time, he initially struggled in his first season in charge, but he went on to take City to promotion in the 1989–90 season, finishing second behind local rivals Bristol Rovers.
He had spells at Greenock Morton, Leeds United, Manchester United, AC Milan, Hellas Verona, Southampton and Bristol City during his playing days. He also earned 52 caps for Scotland, scoring 11 goals.
Former Crystal Palace and Whyteleafe boss Kember, 64, has been a long-time friend of Jordan's and will add more experience to the backroom team.
He said: “It’s a new challenge for me after being out of the management side for so long and I’m very excited. Joe asked if I’d like to be involved and I jumped at the opportunity.”
Kember had a distinguished playing career with Crystal Palace and was part of the side that won promotion to the old First Division for the first time in the club's history.
Pompey chief executive Mark Catlin said: “I think the board have made a great appointment. The combination of Joe and Steve is just what the club needs at this time. They will bring a wealth of experience and hopefully that will help develop the players at the club and improve our fortunes”

Portsmouth have made former caretaker boss Joe Jordan their preferred choice to be their new manager and are in talks, reports BBC Radio Solent.
Jordan, who has been on the coaching staff at QPR since November 2012, looks to have beaten off opposition from ex-Leeds United manager Neil Warnock and Club hero Steve Claridge.
If Jordan takes the job, former Crystal Palace manager Steve Kember expected to join him as his assistant.
The club are expected to unveil their new manager on Wednesday having interviewed five candidates for the job.
Pompey are currently 15th in League Two following two successive relegations and are without a victory in two games.
Whittingham was sacked after just over a year in charge of the supporter trust owned club.

Portsmouth's board will interview the final two candidates from their seven-man shortlist on Thursday as they close in on naming a new manager.
The League Two club sacked previous boss Guy Whittingham on 25 November.
QPR coach Joe Jordan, ex-Leeds, QPR and Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock and former Pompey striker Steve Claridge have already been interviewed.
Pompey chief executive Mark Catlin told BBC Sport they hoped to make a decision by Tuesday and announce the name of the new manager on Wednesday or Thursday.
He said the board had been "very impressed with the high standard of candidates already".
After today's final interviews in Newbury, the board will then choose a preferred candidate, with the aim of agreeing personal terms over the next few days.
Jordan was interviewed on Friday after being granted permission to speak to Portsmouth, but will remain with QPR for Tuesday's Championship match with Bournemouth.
Former Portsmouth and Millwall boss Claridge remains the bookmakers' favourite, with ex-Leeds United manager Warnock also among the front-runners having also been interviewed on Friday.
Meanwhile, caretaker manager Andy Awford will remain in charge until a new manager has been chosen.

Luke James scored the only goal as Hartlepool United beat Portsmouth to climb to the pinnacle of League Two.
James netted on the rebound when a Marlon Harewood shot had been pushed out by Pompey keeper Trevor Carson on 19 minutes.
Portsmouth will be irked not to have taken at least a point from the match, having enjoyed more possession and more attempts on target than the Pools.
On-loan Pompey midfielder Conor Coady blazed a shot over and James missed a chance to double his tally when he fired a shot wide, but the hosts did not need a second goal.
Ricky Holmes came closest to equalising for Pompey with a rasping strike that Scott Flinders had to push onto the crossbar when the score was 1-0.

Portsmouth caretaker manager Andy Awford told BBC Radio Solent:
"Of course we are not happy with the result. It was always going to be a tough game to visit a team who are on-form and sitting at the top of the table.
"But I felt that the team that we put out were good enough to at least get us a point.
"We are still going through a bit of a rough, transitional period between managers but that's still no excuse for below-par performances and only a handful of the lads came away with pass-marks today.
"We will pick ourselves up and start preparing for our FA Cup match with Crewe next Saturday and hopefully we will see an improvement on our performance then. "

Portsmouth have interviewed Joe Jordan about the possibility of taking over as the clubs new manager.
Pompey sacked Guy Whittingham on Monday after just over one year as boss.
QPR's chairman Tony Fernandes confirmed Portsmouth had made an official approach, but said he would leave any decision up to the Scot himself.
"The fact that Portsmouth came in for him tells you how good a coach he is," Fernandes told BBC Radio London.
"Joe Jordan has shown his commitment to the club over the past year and his loyalty to Harry [Redknapp] for eight years now.
"Am I concerned about Portsmouth? I am not concerned about Portsmouth at all. They are in a bad situation but I don't have time to worry about any clubs other than my own.
"I think anyone would be interested in Joe. Who wouldn't be interested in a man with the reputation and experience in the game that he has?
"I wouldn't want him to go, he has a contract with us, although management might be a big draw for him. I'm sure he will discuss the situation with Harry and make his own mind up."
QPR currently sit third in the Championship, while Pompey are in 14th position and their chief executive Mark Catlin refused to comment on the speculation.
"We don't want to comment on any coach or manager who is at another club," Catlin said. "We are going through a process, we have approached a number of clubs to see if they would be willing to allow us to talk to our specific targets.
"Whatever we do, we want to do it via the correct and appropriate channels."
BBC contacted Jordan about the report but he has refused to comment at this time.

Four coaches depart
Portsmouth Football Club can confirm that Anthony Williams has left his position as first team coach with immediate effect.
In addition, fitness coach Louis Langdown and fellow first team coach Alan McLoughlin have also agreed to terminate their contracts.
The club would like to thank Anthony, Louis and Alan for their services and wish them well for the future.

Portsmouth chief executive Mark Catlin has told BBC Radio Solent they already have a shortlist of potential targets for sacked manager Guy Whittingham.
Whittingham was dismissed on Monday after just over a year in charge.
The League Two side want applications over the next week and Catlin hopes to be "blown away" by the interest.
"People like a challenge, and there is no bigger challenge than getting Portsmouth to where they should be in four to five years," he said.
"We do have a shortlist in mind of people we have identified who we think fit the role. Plus when the CVs come in the names can sometimes blow you away. There might be a gem or two in there.
"Hopefully next week we will start the interview process, they will meet the board and then after that make an appointment."
Prior to Whittingham's sacking earlier this week, current caretaker boss Andy Awford was among the bookmakers' favourites to succeed him, having worked as his assistant since he took over.
However, Catlin has confirmed the caretaker boss does not wish to be considered for the role and will return to his job as academy manager when a replacement is found.
Catlin also defended the decision to sack Whittingham, saying it was in the best interests of the club and that Whittingham had lost the confidence of the board.
He said the 49-year-old, who had two spells at Fratton Park as a player, had failed to deliver the agreed success on the pitch, despite the board breaking their budget to meet his requests.
"Plain and simply, he had lost the confidence of the board and they wanted action taken," added Catlin.
"You cannot have a key member of the football club who does not have the confidence of the board.
"The football world is very unforgiving, as we have seen in the past. What goes on that pitch is our product and while we now have stability off the pitch and we have growth as a business, what goes on the pitch is key to the success and the future of the club."
Bury's former commercial director also hinted that pressure from the supporters was a factor in their decision to dismiss Whittingham.
"We are fan-owned club. They are loyal fans, and the time when they start turning is going to have an influence [on decisions], whether that is right or wrong," he said.

Andy Awford earned his first point as Portsmouth's caretaker boss in a goalless draw with Southend United.
Pompey started the brighter, with Thierry Racon's angled effort unable to test goalkeeper Remi Matthews as it flew past his near post.
Trevor Carson was forced into his first serious save on 57 minutes, diving full-length to stop Lee Barnard's long-range shot.
Racon had another chance to win the game for the home side on 85 minutes but the pressure must have cret in for the midfielder and he couldn't keep his shot low enough to hit the target.
Portsmouth were without Marcos Painter and Simon Ferry for the clash with Luke Prosser, Jack Edwards, Josh Banton and Anthony Straker all remaining sidelined for the Shrimpers.
VIEW FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Portsmouth caretaker manager Andy Awford told BBC Radio Solent:
"I'm not particularly satisfied. There are positives. Two clean sheets in a row, which isn't a bad thing. Two games unbeaten, four points from two games in four days and some positive performances from some individuals.
"It wasn't great but we've hit the crossbar and missed a couple of chances - so there are positives.
"I thought we did enough going forward. I don't know if our quality and depth in the middle and the final third is probably where it should be, we didn't test the Southend 'keeper as much as I'd have liked as well. I think the players have worked hard, I think they've struggled to play two games in four days especially with everything that's gone on behind the scenes - but we've got there.
"If you keep conceding goals you aren't going to get anywhere. We've limited two teams - admittedly one team near the bottom of the league - to very few chances in two home games in four days. We're going to have to get ourselves out of this bit by bit and building on two clean sheets is a positive."

The 41-year-old was put in charge after Guy Whittingham was sacked on Monday and will remain in-charge at least for tonight's League Two meeting with Southend United.
Pompey are currently ten points above the relegation zone with just over half of the season remaining.
"We all need to be together, the staff, the players, the board and the fans," Awford told BBC Radio Solent.
"The fans know me and I know the fans and together we will get this place rocking. We have to be together and fight. It is going to be hard, it's a difficult task and if I did not think we could do it I would not be here.
"We will be going all out to put smiles on people's faces because the football club ticks with the fans. It's unique, the fans drive this football club. Always have and always will."
Portsmouth have only won six of their 17 matches under Whittingham this season and are in grave danger of being sucked into a relegation battle. Which could result in the clubs third successive relegation, a far cry from the glory of winning the FA Cup in 2008.
But Awford, who has been Whittingham's assistant since he took over a year ago, is confident he can improve on the clubs league position while in charge.
"I know it's still early to be talking about this but relegation would be unacceptable," he said.
"The decline in recent years has been so dramatic and I do still feel we are feeling the trickle of administration.
"That still bites on us and we have not had time to stabilise. All we are focusing on is now and the rest will follow. Normally, I'm about longevity, but it's all about now.
"We would like to win 5-0 every week and play like Barcelona, but we've got what we've got and we are where we are. My focus is on getting results and installing confidence that will allow the players to express themselves.
"I'll be trying to win football matches. If it's boring, then it's boring."

Andy Awford (5/6) has been backed into favourite with the bookmakers to become the new Portsmouth manager shortly after taking temporary charge of the first team.
The 41-year-old was already considered the frontrunner to take over from Guy Whittingham after his contract was terminated but has had his price cut further with Sky Bet following persistent backing.
Awford had been Whittingham's Assistant at the club since he took charge in November 2012 after the departure of Michael Appleton to Blackpool.
The former Portsmouth defender is followed in the next Portsmouth manager betting by the following potential candidates:
Steve Claridge (6/4) -
The journeyman striker was born in Portsmouth and emerged from the youth set-up at Fratton Park. He went on to have two playing spells at the club and a 25-match spell as a player-manager in the 2000-01 season. He has been out of management since he departed Millwall in 2005 but could see a return to his old club as an ideal opportunity to get back into the game.
Neil Warnock (4/1) -
The controversial former Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, QPR and Leeds boss has managed at no less than 13 clubs in his 23-year managerial career. And had a somewhat successful time in charge of Queens Park Rangers when they were promoted to the Premier League after winning the Championship in the 2011-12 season. Warnock may be seen by the Portsmouth hierarchy as the ideal man to lead the club back up the Football League.
Joe Jordan (7/1) -
The Scotsman has not held a permanent managerial position since he departed Bristol City in 1997. The current QPR coach has previously had two spells as caretaker boss for the Hampshire club, the first in 2005 after the departure of Alain Perrin and the second in 2008 when Harry Redknapp left for Tottenham Hotspur. Jordan has never hidden his desire to return to management in recent years but has also stated that he would not "go chasing every job that's going". Jordan may be an ideal fit for Portsmouth with his previous experience and history with the club.
Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer said: "It was somewhat of a surprise to see Awford backed into favourite for the Portsmouth vacancy given he has no real experience as a manager.
"Whether that money came on the back of his genuine links with Pompey remains to be seen, but the one-sided backing has forced us to keep our price short, with Awford attracting almost half of the money in our book."

Portsmouth have terminated the contract of manager Guy Whittingham.
He was relieved of his duties following a meeting with chairman Iain McInnes, chief executive Mark Catlin and finance director Tony Brown on Tuesday.
The 49-year-old, who was appointed a year ago, leaves Fratton Park with the side 13th in League Two.
His decision to sell fan-favourite and club captain Johnny Ertl to Austria Vienna in August is not expected to have helped the former Newbury boss keep the support of the Portsmouth fans.
Academy manager Andy Awford has been placed in caretaker charge and will be assisted by first-team coach Alan McLoughlin and striker David Connolly.
Whittingham initially took charge of the Hampshire club on a temporary basis on 7 November 2012, following the departure of Michael Appleton to Blackpool.
He was then appointed manager on a permanent basis in April on a one-year rolling contract following the club's exit from a 14-month spell in administration.
Portsmouth were relegated from League One last season, finishing bottom of the table after a 10-point deduction.
The 2-1 defeat at home to Scunthorpe on Saturday was Portsmouth's fourth successive defeat in all competitions. They are currently six points above the League Two relegation zone.
A statement on the club website said: "Portsmouth Community Football Club regret to announce that Guy Whittingham has left his post as manager after his contract was terminated.
"The club wishes to place on record its sincere gratitude to Guy for his service to the club during difficult times.
"We have an important game against Southend United on Tuesday which we are fully focused on.
"There will be no further statement until after this fixture."

Background:-
After neglecting FM completely since 14.3 came out, I fancied a fresh start. Had a soft spot for Portsmouth since around the time that big 'Arry was in charge and the sharp decline that the club has seen since then has been pretty astounding. Since the end of Redknapp's reign in 2008 the club has seen 8 managers come and go, suffered 3 relegations and had to enter administration TWO times in as many years, one of which lasting for an incredible 14 months! Those poor, suffering fans who had to go from the highs of watching their team win the FA Cup in 2008, competing in the group stages of the UEFA Cup. It just didn't seem very fair. God bless them though, they still average at 15,000 at Fratton Park on a match day.
After the recent sacking of another failed managerial appointment in Richie Barker, I got inspired to start my own story and see what (if any) success I could return to these loyal fans.
I'll be picking up from the sacking of Guy Whittingham in November 2013 and pretending that Richie Barker didn't happen. So there will be some slight changes made to the facts around the time of Whittingham's sacking in order to fit my save in of course.
I'll be using my familiar website-style updates, most likely sticking with BBC Sport and the Portsmouth Official website as the main ones.
FM Save Background:-
I started a new game and just holidayed it to 25th November 2013, the date that Guy Whittingham was sacked. The club are sitting 13th in the SkyBet League 2 with a predicted finish of 2nd. So performing way under expectations. I'll post from Whittinghams sacking and pretty much start the story from there.
Objectives:-
- Earn Promotion back to the EPL
- Win the FA Cup
- Qualify for the Europa League Group Stage
I'm not going to pretend that I'll be updating loads as I'm pretty busy most of the time but I'll get them up as often as I can. I'll most likely get my first update(s) up later tonight.That's about it really. This is more about seeing if I can return this unlucky side into a PL-quality side once again and see where it goes from there. I hope you guys will join me in my quest.

Rangers Legend Brian Laudrup says that the full-back is in the best form of his career so far this season.

The Dane, who helped Rangers to three league titles in the 1990s, was in Glasgow on Monday to visit friends.
Laudrup told SportingLife: "I've never stopped following Rangers and watching the matches whenever I could.
"I spent a tremendous four-years at the club and they will always hold a special place in my heart.
"I've been here today to visit some friends and I'll visit Ally and maybe stick around for the Forfar match tomorrow night.
"It's a real shame that the club are in the situation that they find themselves in but Ally is putting together a decent squad and they look in good form for promotion this season.
"Lee Wallace in particular has been outstanding this season for me.
"He's been a real force on the left-hand side for the team and he's been selected for the Scotland squad recently so his efforts aren't going unnoticed.
"Hopefully he will be able to keep that up and get better and better and stick with the side until they are back in the Premiership and competing in Europe again.
"A few of the other young Scottish players have also been playing particularly well this season and the young lad Barrie McKay looks a real prospect so I hope they will be able to keep him at the club for as long as possible".
