I recently read a book, The Miracle of Castel di Sangro by Joe Mcginnis. The book was about a small town club, who managed to work there way from the lowest reaches of Italian football all the way to Serie B, where they battled giants like Genoa, Bari, Pescara, etc. It inspired me to take over an Italian side on FM. I picked Arzachena because, like Castel di Sangro, they are favorites to be relegated and were recently promoted. Arzachena is a small town with a population of a measly 13 thousand people. On the Italian boot, Arzachena is the can being kicked. It's a beautiful seaside town in Sardina and the Costa Smeralda is popular amongst tourists




Arzachena Costa Smeralda had been plying its trade in Serie D and the Eccelenza for most of its duration. This all changed during the 2016-17 season when they were promoted to Serie C for the 1st time in club history. In real life, Arzachena survived relegation finishing 15th, but in FM we are favorites to get relegated and it would be a miracle to get to the top half. I hope for the sake of my budding managerial career, we can fight off relegation.




Taking over for Arzachena Costa Smeralda is none other than the 2 time Everton Player of the month, the man who scored the 23rd most international goals of all time, one time Fifa Legend..... LANDON MOTHERFUCKING DONOVAN. In real life, Donovan has just unretired for the 2nd time to play Club Leon and proven once again that he is the greatest footballer to ever grace the pitch. For the sake of this Career story thing, let's just pretend he decided to hang up his boots for good (much to the chagrin of football fans around the universe) and picked up his clipboard while on vacation here in the Costa Smeralda.

June and July 2018

Starting this update with some great news. My cheap ass board decided to cut my revenue down to 5%. Of course, that might be because we are 60k in the red and I'm spending 20K a year more than my board allowed. Anyways on to the matches

Matches

Well, this was unexpected, IR isn't exactly the best team in the league, but 4-0! It's also the 1st match where Jonsson hasn't absolutely bailed us out. I have a great feeling about this month!



Again, we whomped our opponents, Vikingur is a relegation side, but again another 4 goal murder, yes Papi! Again Jonsson didn't do much, so that's great! We are on a roll. That good feeling about June keeps getting better and better



Fucking great. Selfoss was bottom of the table when this game happened, so fuck me raw. I was so disappointed, we were on a role in July, but fuck me I guess. I'm worried this loss is going to haunt me, I just know it.



What's better, losing 3-0 to the last place team in the division, or barely tieing against a promotion rival, when they're down a man thru red card. I chose the later.



I really don't want to talk about this loss, 1-0 to a relegation team, god what happened to June?



Don't worry guys, we're getting our momentum back, we beat Magni 1-0! So what they're in the last place and we got shafted over for 90 minutes guys! Doesn't matter anyway, I'm leaving at seasons end.

First time in a while that we won a game and deserved it. Tomislav Bilic our GK played well, so YAY!

May 2018

Transfers

We signed Hnamuko and Bilic to compete for Goalkeeper. I was going to sign someone else. but they are coming in January. Atkinson and Batio were going to compete for Right back, but Atkinson is much more talented than Batio is. Mangue is a young center back. He's a backup option, but he has the potential to be a starter. Pakulski is going to fit in as the starter in a BWM role. I forgot what the people from Iceland are doing here, but I'm sure they have a role in the team

Matches

My 1st match is a come from behind win against a non-division side. Thank Christ for Jonsson, if we didn't have him we would have been absolutely been molested. The worst part of this, we have to face a top 5 team IBV.



Luckily we turned around our performance with a 3-1. Despite what the stats may say, we completely dominated this game.



Despite the loss, I'm fairly happy with the result. We almost beat and held our own against IBV, a top division Icelandic side. We wouldn't have lost if it wasn't for that last minute goal




I was hoping for a win, but we started the game horribly and would've lost hadn't it been for IA's poor finishing and Jonsson's miracle goal. I'm worried, it seems we rely upon on Jonsson way too much. Some bigger Icelandic sides are sniffing at him and I think he might leave.

Handknattleiksfélag Kópavogs or HK for short is an Icelandic team in the 1. Deild Karla, the 2nd division of Iceland. Despite being 50 years old, the club doesn't have much silverware in its trophy cabinet, with their biggest achievement is winning the 1. Dield Karla. As recently as 2008 the club was in the 1st division of Iceland, but after relegation, the team has sort of become a mid-table team in the division, like an Icelandic Ipswich Town.




He's been with the club since 2006, definitely someone I can count on

I've wanted to do a journeyman since I started playing FM but I never got around to it. I think this save just might stick. I loaded up Hungary, Czech Republic, Iceland, Bulgaria, China, South Korea, USA, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and Australia as I've never managed those leagues.

Well I took A shot at the challenge with low expectations

I made this guy to run the team


Naturally, Sunderland was weak with their current squad, so I decided reinforcements had to be brought in


Khazri, Watmore and Gooch left because I used a wingerless formation so they seemed surplus to requirements, Rodwell and Gibson complained so I shipped them out on loan. And nobody cares about the rest. Ulloa came in as a rotational striker as we lacked depth in that area, I wanted to bring Ronaldinho in just because he is Ronaldinho. Insua came in as dislike using Lukaku, so he came in. Lerma came in because he fit a midfield role I lacked and Lacen
and Cambiasso came in as Gibson and Rodwell's replacements.

Results

Arsenal to Hull was a very poor stretch which saw us lose the FA CUP and left us with 5 points. From the Hull game on though we woke up and played like a completely different team, This streak saw us end in...

16th Place!!!.

I was completely expecting to be relegated, but I guess magic does happen.
