Could do with a spot of stain/wax/varnish but other than that, nice.

I can believe clothing retail not taking you on but I can't believe that a supermarket won't. Some real special chaps work in supermarkets.

He's not nearly old, Russian or syphilitic enough for you is he?

He was quite a greasy goose, not sure I'd employ him.

When I was temping in a call centre this summer I was sat near a Swansea Computer Science Masters graduate.
He wasn't doing anything with his life and said he couldn't find any work.
*shrug* probably just the experiences of one chap.

Quite smart if it wasn't for the logo.

It's because they can fuck over 16 year old girls with really low pay, extra hours and extra work. It's how the retail trade works, worked in a leading high-street retailer in my gap year (instead of going to Peru). The turn over of 16 year old girls is pretty high, but for those few months they'll have to work hard because it's all they can get and the manager can easily sack them (within probationary period).
They probably know that you'll be a bit more savvy than that.
It's not right but my old boss turned away a chap with two degrees (business and something else I recall), who wanted to apply for a 16 hour role (circa 6.50 an hour) because he knew that he'd have to pay him more and that he wouldn't take shit from my manager.

Wrong thread.
I try and stay away from comedy t-shirts. Although I do own a fair amount of corduroy, so probably don't take my advice.

Can't believe Israel are firing missiles at him, he's had real alcoholism issues. Heartless.

Depends on the awarding body. For example, applying for an Archaeology DPhil at Oxon would automatically enter me for AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) and their internal scholarships. But at some Uni's for specific studentships (usually funded by bequests etc: i.e. the XXXX XXXX Scholarship in Ancient Greek, or some-such) are advertised via mailing lists and whatnot.
I've already spoken to my future supervisor (fingers crossed), who likes my topic (it's similar to my master's dissertation) and thinks that it has legs and the potential to be funded. Luckily it's different enough not to hinge too much on my Master's work, but I'll still need a grade. I'd start the PhD in October but would only hand my thesis in at Bristol in mid Sep, so might have to start my PhD in Feb or something.
Curse you and your science funding profile!

I was shit at A Level Classical Civ. Got a D.
Got a First at Uni though

Ok.ok. MOST don't.
The reason that I've got this teaching position is to go into state schools to provide Classics outreach, to get kids interested that otherwise might not. More than likely teaching in my old senior school, still going to be weird despite leaving 6 years ago.

Going to submit it to 6-8 places (first choice being Oxford). Will take a year off as you said, and apply the following November. Teaching Classics once a week in local secondary state schools, starting January. Although I'm pretty sure I never want to teach at secondary level (although it's only private schools that teach it anyway.).

Yeah, well Roman History/Archaeology Lecturer/Professor, or an academic researcher in the same field(s).

Well that's a given. Not really sure what else I'd want to/be trained to do.

Russian history is a real side interest for me. My degree(s) is(are) heavily based around Roman Imperal history/archaeology.
Wish-listed, thanks!
