Actually it is possible to replace some backgrounds in FM26, using UABEA tool, but AFAIR it's limited for specific competitions (assigned in UABEA) and requires converting JPG background files to PNG.

I've encountered similar problem, but with default skin (all regen faces disappeared after using Newgan). Your instruction helped to solve this, kudos for you and thanks a lot!
