Something has obviously corrupted somewhere. It might honestly be worth backing up your save games and sucking up a full re-install of the game. If that doesn't fix it, then truthfully I have no idea what you can do next.

Open steam, go to library, right click fm 2008 and verify cache integrity.
Try disabling them one by one and rebuilding your cache. It could be unrelated, but worth a shot.
Remove all the files from your sports interactive folder and pop them somewhere else and see if you get the same issue.
What do graphic packs, date updates & skins do you have installed?

I had an issue like that a few years ago and it was due to my motherboard having faulty connections.
It's definitely not FM related.
Try re-installing windows (it might not be the motherboard), or crack open the laptop and see if any wires are loo...
