Well they've slipped for a while now then seeing it's happened with Walcott and Rooney when they where 'premature'
Ninja
Rooney got his first team cap on the 23rd February 2003 after making his debut on 17 August 2002. So basically half a season of impressive performances after making his debut Walcott went to the World Cup too early, as we all probably remember, and did nothing.
But yes it's been happening for a while and it's stupid. Sterling, Zaha, Barkley, Townsend and any other rubbish call ups based on 2 or 3 games of promise need to stop, a settled core of internationals which can then be supplemented by players who have knocked on the door and made a case for selection beyond 'Young, English, hyped by the media and played a few games' is the way to go.
If you make wearing the England shirt something that's an actual achievement maybe it might mean something to those that wear it.

Basically that is what has become of our Australian cricket team now. Is a bit of a joke.

That bit in bold is the most important thing, the FA want to improve the statistics, nothing about improving the quality

Made worse by the fact that even if we do make it the tournament we're almost guaranteed to be involved in the worst games, putting in some horrific performances and then do all the same things again leading up to the Euro's

We just seem to be showing so little ambition with regards to trying young players and more attacking football. I'd rather see us fail whilst mixing things up a bit instead of failing whilst trying the same thing over and over again.

That's the thing, I don't think any of us really expect England to do anything of note in our lifetimes and certainly not any time soon so it would be nice to see us try and play a brand of football that at least makes us proud of the team.
Rodgers, Martinez, Laudrap even Pochettino and Adkins managed to get Premiership players far inferior to the ones in this England squad playing more exciting football. They're good enough and it would be a real shame if some of the youngsters coming through who do have a bit of flair about them were forced to play in such a restrictive manner.

Lacking creativity through the middle at the minute, despite our possession Rooney and Sturridge have seen nothing of the ball.
