People often talk about the number of former players who have played under Alex Ferguson and then gone on to be managers, but a friend just pointed out to me the number of Chelsea players from the 97 and 98 seasons that are now managers.

Ruud Gullit
Steve Clarke
Gianluca Vialli
Mark Hughes
Dennis Wise
Roberto Di Matteo
Gianfranco Zola
Gustavo Poyet

That's a pretty insane number from that squad.

Point proven.

The whole leaving Brighton saga for a start.

What happened?

I thought one of the Brighton players took a shit in the away dressing room. Poyet sent a 'rant' email to the staff, and the Brighton board suspended and sacked him.

It seemed to me that Brighton were sick of him and used his 'rant' as an excuse.

He lied about being sacked live on air. He was sacked before that.

Cardiff have suspended their chief scout and replaced him with 23 year old Kazakhstani who is a friend of the owner's son with no experience in football and was a painter/decorator 6 months ago

Bosingwa talks about Redknapp this week:

Never forced anyone to give me that salary in QPR, if he thought it was a high salary for QPR why he hired two players to receive even more? How can he do technical analysis on players if in the practices Redknapp spends time negotiating with agents? Thinks he's like Ferguson, but there is a difference: in his long career, just won a title. Doesn't seem to know what he says. It's confusing. Must be the age or the wine he drinks every morning.

Except that Torres was quite good last season, Sturridge and Lukaku weren't given a proper chance and Demba Ba is good for Chelsea when he plays?

Yeah you could make a thing like that for pretty much every team if you tried hard enough

With Chelsea you don't really have to try though.

In fairness, Lukaku is the only real stretch on there. Ba's a bit harsh, mind.

I think Ba scored something like two Premier League goals for Chelsea last season. Not good enough when you consider the amount of quality service he's getting. He's a good striker but is completely wasted at that club.

Ba's been very poor since joining Chelsea. Agreeing with TS, he is completely wasted at Chelsea, needs to leave in January.

It's a shame that Mourinho didn't allow him to join us - we need the cover and he'd get more game time here, plus his style of play is different from Giroud's so we'd have a different sort of striker at our disposal.

He got 21 in 44 for both Newcastle and Chelsea last year, I dunno how it was split but regardless that's a good record.

Bit of a shame he left us really - he was our star man when he pissed off and a HBA-Ba-Remy combination would've been fantastic to watch. Almost top 6-worthy in its own right.

But then I suppose that's what you get for balancing low wages with a stupidly low release clause. Reap what you sow and all that bollocks.

He scored twice in fourteen Premier League games for Chelsea last season. He did bag a few in the FA Cup though, so not all bad.

It's clear with his time at Newcastle that he's a very accomplished striker and can bag 15-20 goals a season if given the chance, but he's going to struggle when he's constantly in and out of the Chelsea side without a consistent run of games. I'd have loved him at Arsenal for the season.
