Shola's comments on United fans is really pathetic.

Myself I think Welbeck hasn't performed well for England recently, and after his good start for United he hasn't done much this season, but with Rooney/RVP upfront there hasn't been much of a chance yet. And he keeps losing his balance in key moments, falls on his arse and laughs which is frustrating.

But it's only October, and I'm a United fan so my slightly negative comments on him are obviously a lie.

Anyone offended by the Townsend comment, as Poe says, is an idiot. And killing off Tina is a bad move.

In one of those games he got MoTM he played a part in conceding two goals.

Welbeck is a great up and coming player but he has next to no shooting ability or composure. I would rather play John Jensen up top than Welbeck at the moment but nobody can fault the influence Welbeck has at the back as he always seems to be there

The fuss over Hodgson's comments is ridiculous. And Barton made a good point, who was the one who leaked it out?

One of Redknapp's informants?
Carroll.

NASA decided they’d finally send a man up in a capsule after sending only monkeys in the earlier missions.
They fire the man and the monkey into space.
The intercom crackles, 'Monkey, fire the retros.'
A little later, 'Monkey, check the solid fuel supply.'
Later still, 'Monkey, check the life support systems for the man.'
The astronaut takes umbrage and radios NASA, 'When do I get to do something?'

NASA replies, 'In 15 minutes - feed the monkey.'

If he'd said it to a player who does look like a monkey, like Muamba, I could understand.

He's obviously saying give Townsend the ball and let him do all the work. A tactic which appeared to work fine in all honesty

Also, the midfield pairing of Gerrard and Carrick is a bit defensive - I'd like to see Wilshere alongside Gerrard if he goes on to have a good season. That said, if we're playing a better side than us Carrick is a more solid option. I don't want to see Lampard starting either way.

I completely agree with you about Baines though, he's just too good to leave out.

Wilshere/Gerrard wouldn't work at all. They both like to get forward and we are already playing with 4 very attacking players. Carrick offers a deeper role which gives us a platform to build on.

I'd like to see Carrick/Wilshere, we'd actually be able to keep the ball but Gerrard isn't gonna be dropped. He's doing alright at the moment though tbh.

Anyway, 23 for Brazil?

GK - Hart, Forster, Ruddy

DF - Walker, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Smalling, Jones, Baines, Cole

MF - Carrick, Gerrard, Wilshere, Lampard, Townsend, Walcott, Rooney, Barkley/Morrison/Ox, Welbeck, Milner

FW - Sturridge, Carroll/Lambert

Obviously all depending on club form and if they are fit. I'd love to take a wild card Barkley or Morrison, and I'd take whoever has the best season between them two and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Same with Carroll/Lambert, although if they were similar I'd go with Carroll I think he's got more chance of changing a game from the bench.

Probably missed someone.

Have you just picked those players at random?

I honestly can't see how you're trying to link them.

I mean your points fair enough, but I think its just because we see a lot more of those players and often peoples criticism of United players is very lazy, cliched or uninformed. Everyone's got an opinion on a United player whether they really watch us or not.

They've all been criticised at some point, for not being 'Man Utd quality'. I get the impression that happened at least.

I think it comes with the territory as well, Man Utd are a lot bigger club and people generally want to see them fail more than other clubs.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wrote out a 23 but it was practically identical to Dutton's

Only points I would make is if Smalling or Jones are going then England might be better off taking an extra winger rather than Kyle Walker.

Milner will go if he's fit. Covers positions, works hard and has experience. Or is that a 23 you'd hope to see?

I'd take Milner over Lampard probably.

I just don't think Lampard adds anything to this England team these days. Milner is at least versatile.

Pretty controversial though, taking Lampard over a Barkley or a Morrison would keep the papers on side, which is unfortunately half the England job.

Maybe, but Hodgson's not picking the squad finally till the team are in Miami. The advantage of world cups is its a lot easier to ignore the negative publicity at home. Paradoxically the World Cup is probably the time when the England manager is under the least pressure from papers at the same time when he's under the most paper on the pitch.

Milner is a great winger, he can beat a man and he can put in lethal crosses. He'd also be the perfect player to complement either Walker or Baines given their love of bursting forward

6 goals in his last 12 appearances not good enough for you then?
