I'm a bit of a dimwit what it comes to graphics cards and whatever so I'm after a bit of help from those that do.

Basically I'm getting rid of my MacBook and want a decent laptop that will run FM (obviously) at a high level on 3D and some high spec games like Total War etc. Anyone reccomend me some? Been looking at this or this (due to the sale) but don't really have much of a clue.

Cheers

The specs seem pretty good but it's an Acer so avoid.

Still stuck with my acer

The battery literally lasts about 30 seconds now and it seems to be in a constant battle with keeping a steady wireless connection.

Like the look of this one.

Cheers for the feedback lads, glad I didn't get the acer haha, I was almost about to press buy. Graphically do you think this would manage high spec games like Total War's etc?

Total War isn't really the most taxing game. You'll be fine.

The more recent one really, the likes of Empires and the new Rome which is likely to be even higher

Vaio are great. Just make sure you format it when you get it so it removes the vast amounts of bloat

I wouldn't install Windows 8 tbh.

It's pretty useless and a PC/Laptop and just pisses you off.

Don't even consider installing Windows 8 until the first service pack comes out, that's the usual rule for Windows OS's. Windows 7 will do you fine for a good while

Yeah I had the consumer preview of Windows 8 and it was nothing but trouble, It interfered with my networking, causing the internet to disconnect every few minutes as well as crashing an obscene amount of times.

It wasn't the fact that anything was buggy that annoyed me, it was that they took the fucking start button away.

The trouble you have to go through to do something simple like search for an application if a joke.

Open up the entire metro interface, open up the right bar thing, go into the search option then find the program you want before going back to the desktop.

All I want is to have the start button back and disable Metro. Then I'd buy it.

If there's no start button, how do you open shit? Cluttered desktop?

I'm not too savvy with laptops so thought I'd ask here. My mate gets £850 to spend on a laptop from the Uni. He can't spend say £500 and keep the rest, so may as well go right up to the £850 limit (he gets other budgets for printer, mouses etc). Any suggestions?

I recently got this.

Pretty happy with it so far. Costs about £800.
