Shola can you tell me your view on Joe Kinnear saying no player will leave this transfer window despite agreeing a deal with Cabaye to let him leave this transfer window?

Absolutely silly to be saying these things, when overall it's not his decision. Personally I don't really care, I'm aware there's always a reasonable chance that a player will be sold. At least Pardew learned his lesson, not to talk in absolutes anymore.

Do you know where that quote came from? I can't seem to find where it was originally published.

I still don't think JFK has anything to do with transfers anyway.

I can't find the original article either but I have seen an Twitpic of the article headline with the quote, and further ones of Sky Sports News from earlier this month repeating the quotes. But if JFK has nothing to do with transfers, then what is the point of him being at NUFC?

Meanwhile, Grenier has said 'I can nearly say that I will not be going to Newcastle. I have lots of objectives I need to achieve this year with Lyon.'

Hardly a good omen, but apparently these were said before we bid. Maybe there's time to change his mind.

Jobs for mates.

Same reason Pardew is your manager.

Anyway, a Sky journo tweeted Rooney has signed a new deal and then deleted it. Still not sure I feel positive about him staying.

Expect Chelsea or Tottenham to sign Yevhen Konoplyanka in the coming days

There are reports in Ukraine that Spurs are actually trying to sign him.

News tonight is that Dani Osvaldo is on his way to Juventus, allowing Vucinic to move to Arsenal on loan. He wouldn't be the most exciting of signings but he'd be better than no-one.

I think his career at City is done anyway. His inability to stay fit and/or perform competently when is fit seems to have seen to that. It's a shame.

Sadly true. Though given I thought Pardew would have been fired by now on more than one occasion, regularly fucks up substitutions, and has to deal with a key departure at least once every two windows, he's doing well for himself.

Did he have one in the first place?

Pardew isn't a bad manager, but he's not a good one.

A good manager could do quite a bit with our squad I think.

I don't think he's going a bad job. We all just know why he got it in the first place.

Aye definitely - Kinnear on the other hand is doing a bad job.

Exactly. Not even remotely good enough for a shite team like Fulham, and yet Seedorf seems willing to snatch him up. With a crocked Essien joining as well, it's like he's building a team designed meticulously to hilariously fail.

Shame that Fernando has spurned the chance to join United for City, I doubt he'll get any first-team football at the Etihad.

He might not get as much as he would at United but given our lack of options in central-midfield, he should do alright for appearances.

How much is Fernando going to cost?

Peanuts.

Anyway a Porto fan on Redcafe posted this in December.

Really, he can only play in a midfield 3 as a lone DM. Our manager this season has been determined to invert the triangle, so Fernando plays with another CM on his side and he looks completely out of place on the ball.

Moutinho was the real gem on our midfield, I don't think Fernando will improve you that much, I don't even think he'll adapt to your system. As a squad option he should be ok, very experienced footballer, and he won't cost much, with just 6 months on his contract. He has been running it down for about 3 seasons without wanting to renew so I doubt he does it now. So either chap on January, or free in June.

For what it's worth Paulo Bento is considering him for the NT. He's eligible as he's been in Portugal for 7 years and never played for Brazil. I think he's better than Veloso and our NT plays with a midfield like Porto used to, so he could be a good addition for the World Cup squad.

And a Sporting Lisbon fan posted this.

I´ve been watching him since he moved to Porto and i can say that he is the best DM in Portugal. No doubt. He plays in a rival team but i´m a big fan of Fernando and want him in our National team since he declared his availability and now has portuguese citizenship. He is physically very strong (6ft), very good stamina, excellent positional sense and reasonable passing ability. He is very regular in his performances (kinda like Moutinho) and rarely plays bad. His positional sense and tactical awareness (hence the nickname "The octopus" is top notch and he extremely confortable running the defensive zone of the midfield by himself. That has been the crucial asset of Porto´s midfield in the recent past. Playing with one DM. This year the new coach has been playing with two defensive pivots and the midfield just doesn´t work. It´s limitating Fernando´s performances. He already proved himself in our league and in the european competitions he is always one of the best in Porto´s team. I think he will go to Inter Milan but it´s a known fact that Moyes has followed him when he was Everton´s manager. I´m not saying he is better than Fellaini but as a DM he would make a much better impact than Fellaini in this United team. I´m kinda skeptical of how he would work with Carrick. Perhaps if Carrick moved up to CM, they could work together but Fernando is best used being the only DM on a team.

Anyway, the consensus is that he'd ben a improvement on Javi Garcia and is by no means a bad player, just probably not what we need.

Grenier bid rejected.

Sky say it was £8.5M and (I think) Lyon value him at £12-13M so I think there's still a way to go.

Apparently Duricic from Benfica is also a target. Can't say I know much about him though...

Vucinic has refused to move, Juve are looking at offloading Quagliarella to make space now - Cardiff's offer has been refused by the player though, another one that wants to stay in Italy.

You've not seen much of Milan this season have you? Their a joke already and fully deserve to be where they are in the table.

Also, both signings make sense. Seedorf is set on playing a 4231 and with everbody present the bank of 3 consists of El Shaarawy, Kaka and Honda. The backup for which is the untested and seemingly untrusted Saponara, the sh*te Birsa and the rotting, rum-soaked corpse of Robinho. Taraabt fills a gap till summer.

Same as Essien, he's a shadow of the player he was at Chelsea but still a step up from utter dross like Nocerino and Muntari.
