Heskey, Del Pierro and possibly Ballack in the A-League. Could be the new MLS here.

I'd like to think what happened in the Newcastle Jets boardroom. "Sydney have signed Alessandro Del Piero; what superstar can we get to rival them?"

Yeah.

Heskey stuggles to deliver during an English winter, can't see how he's going to cope playing in an Australian summer.

Would love if a club picked up Zambrotta, since there's a real lack of quality full backs going around.

I don't see it happening, the clubs don't have the income to continuously do that year after year.

I think with Del Piero they've brought him in for the next two seasons, then after that Sydney FC will look to bring through a lot of youth that hopefully have been exposed to him in some way, so they can learn from his professionalism on and off the pitch. I still think the way to go is bringing in more youth players, I think the national team is suffering because not many players are coming through at A-League level and overseas.

Yeah, but clubs simply looking to bring through youth doesn't provide the excitement. Without having established quality, the league suffers too.

The national team is suffering because our "golden generation" is coming to and end. The A-League isn't really good enough just yet to produce players ready for the NT, while a lot better players go to Europe, they still struggle to really make an impact- unless an exceptional talent. Mustafa Amini is basically the only real exceptional talent going around at the moment, who could become big if he develops well at Dortmund. Besides that, a lot of flashes of potential without much real substance.

Thomas Hitzlsperger is on trial at Everton

I don't understand why he always finds himself without a club, he was quite a good player in his Villa and Stuttgart days.

Actually surprised he's still only 30.

It's because of his silly accent.

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2012/09/25/hitzlsperger-trains-with-blues

Former Germany international Thomas Hitzlsperger is training with Everton.

The ex-Aston Villa and West Ham midfielder is currently without a club after leaving Wolfsburg at the end of last season and has been handed the chance to impress David Moyes and his coaching staff.

The 50-cap Hitzlsperger, 30, has also played for Stuttgart and Lazio and is famed for his powerful left-foot.

And Blues assistant boss Steve Round said: "I have been very pleased with him.

"Thomas is a long way off playing but we have given him the opportunity to come in and it is up to him now. We will assess him over the next couple of weeks.

"He seems a really good lad and I don't think I have seen him without a smile on his face. What will determine whether he gets a contract is his fitness. He has had a bad injury and we would want to see that he could sustain training," added Round when speaking to the national media ahead of Tuesday's game at Leeds.

"If he could do that, he would add quality and strength to our squad. He has got a history of playing at the highest level."

Worth a punt, I guess. Can't imagine his wages would be too high.

Yeah.

Heskey has 62 caps for England. That probably sealed it

Hitz aint that good anymore. He is a Bundesliga 2 player now Id say. Definately not a premier league player.

Moyes has the ability to get the best out of his players. That and anyone is better than Neville in midfield....

I agree. But in Hitz´s case - how can you get something out of someone if there´s nothing inside anymore?

I'd trust David Moyes judgement more than some random German on an internet forum. No offence, Ede.
