if his leg was planted it could potentially have done a lot of damage. I think Valencia's reaction was more down to the fact its completely idiotic to go in like that in a friendly a week before a world cup. Even more so when there was little reason to make the challenge, add to that hes already had his leg snapped by a similar challenge in a similar position. Was a stupid reaction from Valencia but completely understandable.

Because reacting like that in general is obviously daft and asking for a red card, but I can also understand from his point of view why he might of reacted like that. Empathy is not a complicated concept

The overreaction to this is ridiculous and because its a 'friendly' makes absolutely no difference, in fact it isn't just a friendly its an opportunity for players to get into the starting 11 for the World Cup. So i completely expect them to be 100% committed to any challenge they make, regardless of the opposition or even the importance of the match for that matter. Guess it depends on how you play/view the game, but for me there was never any such thing as a friendly, you play every game to win, not worry about injuring the opposition ffs.

People are calling it reckless and leg breaker but bollocks to that. The way Valencia was standing, any sort of sliding tackle could have broke his leg had he not lifted it, so I dont see the point. Sterling was a little late, but it wasnt even that bad tackle

It's reckless, he's got both feet off the ground and brings his trailing leg in after getting something on the ball. Had Valencia not moved he'd probably have a broken leg. Ryan Shawcross was a little late once as was Martin Taylor, look what happened there.

Sterling brings his trailing right leg right through and that's the one that makes most of the contact with Valencia.

Those screengrabs are shite, that's the foot he gets the ball with. The video makes it much clearer that the trailing leg is swept in to make it a 2 footed (sort of) challenge

Yeah the Eduardo challenge was late and so was this one the only difference being the ending wasn't as bad.

The Eduardo tackle was a result of a shit player with an extremely shit tackle with the mentality to rough 'em up a bit. This is no way similar, Sterling's intentions weren't to injure, it was just reckless and an inexperienced thing to do. You can't even compare it to dumbfuck Shawcross's tackle on Ramsey, this is fairly innocuous compared to that.

Still cracks me up when Stoke fans tried claiming Ramsey broke his own leg.
