They've broken up a side that just won the Champions League and by all accounts Ronaldo was fond of those/mates with them.

They've also started terribly in La Liga and are already 6 points behind Barca.

It's more been Ronaldo fuelling it off and on since he moved than wishful thinking. Even if it's just been to get contract renewals he talks about how much he loves United at least once a season.

I do wonder if he wonders what might have been at times. He's only won one league title and one Champions League (albeit La Decima) since he's left (barring the Copa Del Ray) until last season wed arguably been more successful than Madrid since the years he left and with him in the team we'd only have been better.

I've never really been convinced he would come back after Ferguson retired though, playing under him again was the attraction rather than playing for us specifically. Still think he'd come back if he left Madrid over other destinations, but not that he'd force a move.

The Guardian, Telegraph and Mirror are all saying we're going to go big Ross Barkley in the summer.

Wouldn't mind seeing it happen but I suspect it'd take a mammoth fee.

Maybe. I would if I was him, Barkley's already missed plenty of time through injury, I doubt he wants to miss the best part of 2 years through injury.

Seriously, though, Barkley's better than Rodwell and there's more of an opening for him than there was for Rodwell.

Barkley's decision making is terrible. Has all the attributes to be good just like Jack did, but he lacks it tactically.

Would hope he develops his decision making with age and experience as most players do. Agree that he will cost a fair bit mainly because hes English & also Everton seem to be able to get good money for their players.

Don't really think Barkley's that good a player tbh. Certainly got some technical ability and can beat a man, but he'd get half the hype if he wasn't English.

For the money Everton would want (surely 40m+) you'd get far better players in either of the posistions he can play.

Almost certainly. They wouldn't be home-grown though, unfortunately that's important enough to play a part in transfer policy.

Thats the problem, the home-grown quota was well intended but all its served to do is increase the cost of English players and it just means teams are bringing in young players from abroad and using them to fill the quota

They're only four years off a CL title, of course signing for Inter is still a big deal.

It's not the same as it would have been in say, 1997, but nothing is.
