Neither's Chris Smalling, but thats never stopped him from being considered absolute shit by 90% of the football watching public for not being very good there.

Lol Townsend. Surely Downing and Dyer have been far better so far this season?

I really don't want Gibbs to get injured but he is a better player than that fraud Baines.

Thank god the rumours about Vardy getting a call up weren't true, same for Blackett.

Clyne's about the first youngster made to earn his place in years, thats a good call up. Very average side though, all said and done.

Finally Clyne called up. Should have been in the last squad. Stones is certainly England potential, but not at right back.

But yeah, lol at Townsend getting in.

I like the fact that on the official teamsheet paper listing Welbeck was still an MUFC player.

How on earth are Lambert & Townsend included.

Happy for Clyne, best English right back we have, certainly on current form.

Only 1 United player in the squad, must be the fewest we've had for years.

Interesting that Shaw and Chambers are in the u21s because they have important games.

He's played a grand total of 4 Premier League games, is the absolute nonsense call ups like that that are completely devaluing the fact that getting an England call up should be an achievement and a recognition of the fact that you're actually playing well.

Of the ten thousand England debut call ups Hodgson has made I really can't think of any that really made a case for deserving it at the time. Some have gone on to subsequently show they're important players (Sterling for example) but I distinctly remember them all getting a call up after about 30 seconds of running at players.

There's something fundamentally broken with the selection policy when years of consistent performances are discounted in favour of half a season, if that, of hype. For example, the fact that John Stones already has more England caps than Shawcross is a bit of a nonsense.

There's no actual policy to the call ups it just literally seems to be a case of Hodgson opening a paper and callling up anybody that happens to have been written about that weekend.

ha ha can't believe Townsend got in. Glad Clyne got in though! Surely Blackett wasn't actually in the running for the squad??

Probably just paper talk, he has been quite impressive but I think even Roy's bizzarro England selections wouldn't stretch that far. Wouldn't have played even if he'd been called up.

So apparently the FA are looking at giving the Wembley contract to NFL for a team once the national team one ends in 2017. This England would play at places like Old Trafford and St James again

Whilst I like the idea of England touring again, I'm not sure I like the reasoning for it.

NFL is literally the best use for Wembley. Absolutely no need for a National Stadium. Pointless.

Hodgson picks probably the most defensive line up possible for a game at home against San Marino. And they wonder why England are struggling to get bums on seats?

England can't win tonight. If they don't win by five or more they're rubbish, but if they destroy them then who cares, it's only San Marino...

saw that on BBC sport and I agree.

The names in the San Marino line-up sounds like PES names from back in the day when they didn't have licences.

Luca Tosi = Luca Toni
Christian Brolli = Christian Brocchi

He did though. Doesn't matter anyway really but the commentators denying it completely is highly annoying

Pretty sure he tripped over his own defender.

Anyway, the fact we need a dodgy free header and a penalty to be beating san marino is hilarious.
