Barclays Premier League 2014/15 - Real World Football - FM24/25 Update

Arsenal are the worst for it but all of the big teams in England seem to have a problem with it. United's fitness record has been poor for the last few years and City's has been dodgy since at least 2012 when Mancini (supposedly) had the team doctor sacked.

Its one of the biggest hopes I have for Van Gaal and consequently one of the biggest worries I had with Moyes. Moyes was a notoriously hard trainer and given the already shaky injury records of a few of our defensive players (noticeably Smalling, Evans, Jones) it was already going to cause problems. I think Fergie's methods by the end were quite old fashioned too.

Saying that, Shaw's injury at the start of the season was reminiscent of RVP's 'overtraining' one last summer, but otherwise Van Gaal's injury records very good. Fixed Robben iirc.

Yes and no. It's not encouraging to have this many injuries, but I think we're dealing with them a bit better and hopefully will come out a bit stronger. I've given up hope on Smalling and Evans (and frankly don't care if Young and Fellaini are injured or not) but we seem to be taking a little bit more care when bringing players back and leaving a little longer for rehab than before. Some of them have been just plain bad luck too, you can't really legislate for a player breaking a rib.

I think the problem at Arsenal has a lot more to do with the medical department/training methods.

If that was the case all teams would have similar problems, one thing we have going for us is we seem to keep players fit for most of the season since Rodgers took over, only have to worry when its time for internationals

Yeah, but you didn't play in the Champion's League, got knocked out in the 5th round of the FA Cup and after 2 games in the Carling Cup.

You only played 43 games last season compared to 57 for Man City, 56 for Arsenal and 56 for Chelsea.

Plus one needs to factor in how many players were used throughout the season. Larger overall first team squads means more options to rotate compared to those with a smaller first team.

We've also had some injuries too, Lucas, Enrique, Agger etc been out for ages.

I genuinely believe the pace and physical side of the game is why there is so many injuries. The body just can't handle it. Training injuries pretty much add to it, as the players have to try to get to the right physical level to compete

I am curious, I have never played soccer (football) in my life, have always played rugby league being an aussie but how is it that a sport as brutal as league has less injuries then football. The actual numbers in Australia prove that there are more injuries in soccer then league as well. It just baffles me, as a person who has suffered many injuries playing league and been 3 levels below NRL when my body tells me not to train or play I don't, sometimes I have pushed it but when you really know it's not right you don't play, so how have the most professional sportsman in the world succumbed to injuries like they have in football and been out for as long? It just baffles me....

Without looking at the stats I imagine the majority of rugby injuries are impact ones which tend to not be very serious unless something is broken whilst football leads to a higher amount of muscle injuries due to it favouring explosiveness and sharp twists and turns more frequently.

I may be wrong here but in a season there is a lot more Football matches played than Rugby? If so then maybe the fatigue affect comes in. I'm not really sure if thats the case about more games so correct me if I'm wrong.

I don't know why your mentioning Arsenal as i didn't? You said how Rodgers had improved Liverpool's injury list (iirc) but when you're playing a lot less games its hardly surprising as players are getting a weeks rest between games rather than playing every 3/4 days along with travelling around Europe too. Imo Liverpool are already suffering with the extra games as their performances have shown.

In fact you actually have the same amount of injuries as us atm.

Just looked at Chelsea's. Didn't even realise Zouma was injured. I feel Arsenals pain thought being a Patriots fan. Its like the same thing every year a good third at least gets injured

I thought Pardew talking about Ebola in his press conference yesterday was an odd choice of a pre-match topic but Swansea are apparently considering an all-out ban on players leaving for international duty in Africa.

The ACON itself next year is in Morocco, which is out of the way of the outbreak, but even so, its an interesting discussion to have.
