If Newcastle can get at the two center backs they'll have a chance, really not been impressed with Mangala and at this moment in time have absolutely no idea why City paid so much for him.

He's really not been that bad. As for the fee, probably because the club see him as a player for the majority of the next decade rather than just the next couple of seasons.

It is. I think that's one of the reasons Pellegrini named a strong side, we've been so mediocre recently I suspect he was hoping this match would give a few players a boost going into the derby. Doesn't look like it's going to work though.

With Chelsea leading the pack in the league and City somewhat off the pace in their CL group may it be that Pellegrini sees this competition as a must win?
