Caballero; Sagna, Demichelis, Mangala, Kolarov; Milner, Toure, Fernandinho Silva; Jovetic, Dzeko

Very strong lineup for City considering the derby on Sunday. Didn't expect to see Toure and Silva

Our choice of teamsheet did not fill me with confidence before I saw the MCFC one. We're going to be pulverised.

If Newcastle can get at the two center backs they'll have a chance, really not been impressed with Mangala and at this moment in time have absolutely no idea why City paid so much for him.

Top defending from Ryan Taylor to blatantly haul down Silva right on the edge of the area.

He's really not been that bad. As for the fee, probably because the club see him as a player for the majority of the next decade rather than just the next couple of seasons.

And Newcastle are 1-0 up. Not a great moment for Caballero.

Edit: Now Silva is off injured.

Could have been 2-0 there from Dummett.

It's certainly looking that way. Tonight has been fairly terrible so far.

Look's like Aguero could be coming on to get injured soon.

Entirely likely. Kolarov is injured now.

Fair play in respecting the competition and putting out a strong side but surely Sunday is much more important than tonight.

It is. I think that's one of the reasons Pellegrini named a strong side, we've been so mediocre recently I suspect he was hoping this match would give a few players a boost going into the derby. Doesn't look like it's going to work though.

With Chelsea leading the pack in the league and City somewhat off the pace in their CL group may it be that Pellegrini sees this competition as a must win?

Nice to benefit from one of Atwell's fuck-ups for a change.

For all the slaggings it gets, opposition fans sure do love doing the 'Poznan'

We haven't done it consistently for 2/3 years but it's still popular.

So the holders are out,a team like Bournemouth must really be fancying their chances this season!

Is the draw tonight?

It's coming up after the break.

Superb win tonight for Newcastle, really didn't see that coming at all.
