There may have been grounds related to his asylum which would prevent deportation. People who risk being being subjected to torture or executed are never deported by civilised countries.

If he has children that may also be something that would have made the government hesitant to deport him.

The staff Christmas party last night was a wee bit shit, the restaurant for some reason gave us two separate booths, the six staff around my own age and above who went got the one table and I was left on the second with two seventeen year old weekend girls. however hard I tried to be a conversationalist all they wanted to talk about was boys they fancied at their college.

Wound up getting rather drunk by myself until everyone had finished their food and we all squeezed into the first booth and I finally got to join the group for the last twenty minutes before everybody went home.
