Definitly the second one, I like the way you went for the trippy acid / LSD effect because we all know he must of been on some sort of drug to say shit like that.

I will forward that to the author

I'm signing on this Thursday, I'll ask then. I'll check employment agencies, but I'm not aware of who they are and what they can do. Again, I'll ask on Thursday. It's so annoying that I can't get a Christmas temp job because I have no retail experience, yet they hire thick-as-shit 16-year-old girls from college.

It's because they can fuck over 16 year old girls with really low pay, extra hours and extra work. It's how the retail trade works, worked in a leading high-street retailer in my gap year (instead of going to Peru). The turn over of 16 year old girls is pretty high, but for those few months they'll have to work hard because it's all they can get and the manager can easily sack them (within probationary period).

They probably know that you'll be a bit more savvy than that.

It's not right but my old boss turned away a chap with two degrees (business and something else I recall), who wanted to apply for a 16 hour role (circa 6.50 an hour) because he knew that he'd have to pay him more and that he wouldn't take shit from my manager.

I know what you mean, yeah. Minimum wage for 16-17 is something like £3.50 an hour as well, and while most in High Street chains don't get paid that low, it's often little over it anyway. My problem is that I live quite far away from any proper chains, so it's not as if I can come into work on short-notice as well. I'll find something though, eventually. If I could fastforward time to September 2013 and just start uni again (with unfucked accommodation), I would.

I think that's apprentice wage, not minimum wage. Couldn't swear by it though.

Apprentice wage is £2.50 an hour, at least it was, it might've gone up a bit.

Think £3.50 is minimum wage for 16-17 year olds, then goes up as you get older (obviously)

Why on earth is it so low?

Minimum wage in Ireland is €8.65 (?) and like €6 for people 17 or younger, I think?

Yeah, but your unemployment is about £200 a week. Whereas in the UK it's £54.

No idea, really. Does Ireland have a different school-leaving age? I know a lot of people who lost their jobs around their 18th birthday when they suddenly required more for minimum wage, which must be a pain in the ass. It'd be technically illegal for an employer to discriminate against an 18-year-old in favour of a 16/17-year-old, but I bet it happens.

Minimal wage in Slovakia is approx 1,880€ per hour. But I actually never heard of anybody being paid that little, mostly they got 3€ and more, but still too little.
Anybody complaining???

Isn't Sweden renowned for its egalitarian and social democratic laws and welfare state?

Not that Franck would agree it, being classical liberal.

The Swedish model has worked out just fine for us.

Letting the employers and the unions establish the salary structure through collective bargaining make a whole lot more sense than having a group of politicians setting some national limit.

I really don't see why an electrician should have the same minimum wage as a waiter or why someone in Barnsley should have the same minimum wage as someone in London.

Well, unions have been effectively neutered in the UK since the 1970s, so I couldn't imagine collective bargaining setting minimum wage having that much effect, except for maybe in the public sector. Then again, I like how the living wage proposes an extra pound an hour for those living in London.

That's exactly why we're trying to get a living wage which is a far more proportionate means of establishing a national level.

Norway, Sweden and Finland (possibly the most social democratic/socialist states in Europe due to their social and welfare models have no minimum wage). Ireland's is the second highest in Europe.

In Moldova, the minimum wage is 0.27 euros per hour...

You could buy a hell of a lot more with 27 cents an hour in Moldova than you could in Western Europe. It's still low, I know, but its worth taking that into consideration.

Wow, somebody gets less then we do.
How can somebody live from 50€ per month?
Actually the info there is wrong Slovakia, Czech Republic and I believe Poland and Hungary too were raising the minimum wage way back in January.
