Yeah that's the most likely outcome. Even the Jordanian doesn't seem to be getting much middle-eastern support

Reports suggesting Ginola has pulled out, I'd assume he was either terrified by Figo or realised everyone else was actually serious

The South American and Caribbean associations are also corrupt and likely to back Blatter.

I'm actually starting to like the idea of Figo as Fifa president. He seems to genuinely want to improve football worldwide.

Nah, it's more of a "I need votes from outside Europe" type of thing

Why not? It'd be deadly.

Minnows Brazil taking on the mighty Samoa or Cape Verde.

The World Cup is supposed to be special, 48 teams would ruin it imo.

Wouldn't mind them extending the Euro's though.

I was without doubt taking the piss.

The Euro's have already been extended and I guess we'll see what happens there next year in France.

Six FIFA officials arrested this morning in Switzerland on corruption charges.

Guardian say 14 overall, one of which is Vice President Jeffrey Webb.

Statement from Swiss authorities: They'll question "10 persons who took part in voting on the allocation of the 2018 & 2022 World Cup"

Yet FIFA are ruling out a revote. Absolute joke.

What made me laugh was when Fifa investigated itself a little while back to see if there were any wrongdoings. What a surprise it was that they found themselves innocent.

They actually didn't, it was far more amatuer than that.

Garcia spent two years making the report, found some stuff that Fifa didn't like. So Fifa then tried to kill it, got Eckert to write a 'summary' of the report which absolved them of all wrongdoing (or rather, admitted that they'd been wrongdoing but denied that it meant anything) and have then stringently ignored Garcia's claims that their summary was a complete misrepresentation of the facts.

I just love how Blatter is trying to credit the clear-out onto himself. What an utterly despicable man.

The sad thing is I just can't see Blatter losing today. Its a crying shame as he is clearly harming everything, but it seems as though he has enough support to keep him in office as despot-like as ever.

I think I've said it earlier in the thread, the associations from the developing world back Blatter because he's just as crooked as themselves. He's their guy and that's why he'll never lose an election.

Death or criminal charges are the only ways we'll ever get rid of him.

No, cos Blatter has actually done a world of good for the countries in the developing world.

Well I guess it is 6 of one half a dozen of the other. The smaller nations would be easier to corrupt, but his way of getting votes off them is usually just "We'll treat your vote equally at all times and give you help regarding World Cup spots" and all that jazz, we'll also give you money to grow the game"

All old, corrupt bastards. That Issa Hayatou coming out saying corruption is everywhere is a massive knobhead. Blatter will only win cause off all these shitty countries he's bought voting for him. Sooner he goes the better.

Yeah Blatter will win this.

Seems like there's a significant rift created already, Blatter will lose a big chunk of his influence whatever the outcome.
